BAD S2000 AP1 RETAINERS ?

We see a lot of S2000s. Most have very few issues, just needing some maintenance and a little TLC
We replaced the cylinder head on an S2000 that had some major problems, Lucky this one didn't drop the valve.
Another one came in for maintenance and a check over.

I thought the same thing when I went to pick up oil filters from the dealership. I stop them and said what is this that’s not the correct filter. They had to assure me that no it’s the correct filter. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Last month I bought the PCX-003 filter from a local Honda dealership. The price had more than doubled from July of 2020. It must because it is being phased-out in favour of the new replacement.

Must do preventative upgrade for Ap1s. Wiped out my motor in 2011. Since replacing the retainers+cotters on my replacement motor for AP2 versions I've had zero problems. Honda changed the material on those parts for a reason.

Would love to take my 2007 ap2 to LHT for basic tune up and maintenance. Only has 23k miles but wouldn't be surprise if some parts need to be replace due to old age.

Hey, good evening...just wanted to ask your opinion on resurfacing the head before reassembly? I am aware the oem service manual has a tight tolerance and have read on forums to never do it so just wanted to know your opinion before I remove my head. Thank you in advance.

Anytime a head is removed, the surface should be checked. If it requires surfacing, the Least amount should be removed to bring it back into spec.

It doesn’t really sound any different. Sometimes you can get mis fires, the best way is to look them over and see the valve tip protrudes the same as the rest.
