That's the way I took it - not actually knowing the road myself. So... there's no obligation to keep close left, but I suppose it's considered helpful for Audi, Mercedes, BMW and Range Rover users. Have I missed any? :)

When you started talking about the line disappearing, at the first light, there was an arrow in the right lane directing the cars to merge, so I would say it is a single lane each way. Y'all just aren't used to nice, wide roads!! Considering the width of the lane, it would make sense to put lines to make it two lanes each direction, but that's logical and we know the powers that be are rarely logical! The learner on the motorcycle was telling you he was a crap driver and needed more of the road than he was entitled to! Loved the use of the horn for that Berk in a Merc...it was perfect!

14:20 - Like it or not, the pedestrian had priority, as there was no box for him to press a button. So even on a green light (which is for drivers to look at, not him) he has priority at the junction. If it had a box with a button for him to press, it would be a different story. It's hard for drivers to accept that when they have a green light, but those are the rules.

The Range Rover must be allowed in that bus lane because it's a heavy goods vehicle with the ego it has haul. 7:36 that is a single lane road, the give away is that 'Slow' is written once in the centre, if it were two lanes it would be written in the centre of each lane. You should technically be positioned in the centre of the lane, although there is a similar road near me where it feels safer to keep left so those that can't wait can easily get past.

Incorrect. Highway code rule 112 says " warn other road users of your presence". The other car was well aware of where LDC was, so the use was not a warning. Furthermore, it was used as the incident unfolded. For it to be a warning, then LDC should have used the horn before the incident developed.

Incorrect, considering LDC is a stickler for the rules he shouldn’t have sounded his horn. The other vehicle was well aware he was there and shouldn’t have cut across him. However, LDC’s use of the horn was illegal in that he was using it to tell the other driver off and not to inform them that he was there.

324 - Purley way. I treat the markings giving two lanes as guidance - everyone is put into one lane or the other, until we get to the next area where real concentration again needed. Good luck in finding any official guidance.

7:12 it's one lane each way, so a learner would be required to take a central position because of the width, it's quite possible there used to be 3 lanes there, with the middle being one used for overtaking in either direction, as was common design practise on trunk roads in the 50 and early 60s this type of design has largely been phased out (bar a few isolated forgotten cases), because it's incredibly dangerous, and has either been replaced with 2 lanes one way/1 lane the other, or one wide lane each way

I have yet to see an Amazon van that doesn't have a series of dents and dings. The one that pulled up to deliver to my neighbours across the road a couple of days back had a smooth dent made by something like a pipe or barrier pole across the whole width about 6 inches above the front windscreen, then at the same exact height a much rougher gouge all the way along the edge of the roof on the offside - I suspect there's a story to that, and not one that covers the driver in glory.

7:13 There is a merge arrow here but I think it needs 1 more. It's a 1 lane road which splits into 2 again. People use it as a 2 lane road I would imagine as they likely know the road and that it splits back to 2 lanes again ahead. In heavy traffic, this would likely continue back and make itself into 2 lanes. I know another location where this occurs where another roughly half mile section of a 1 lane road is wide enough for 2 cars and 99% of the time in heavy or rush hour traffic where the road splits at the end into 2 lanes, the traffic queues for almost that whole road as if it was 2 lanes.

Not familiar with the road, but as it turns into 2 lanes there is an arrow at start. I would have my pupils drive centrally in that lane, it then provides good spacial distance from path and oncoming vehicles. Nice to have some decent space. I reckon though over some time it may not have looked this way.

7:35 - I think if it was two lanes, even really worn ones, each lane would get a 'SLOW'. Otherwise the message might say "OW" if traffic is backed up in the left hand lane. It could have a... sore shoulder.... with all the traffic. I'll see myself out.

As far as the "two vehicle width" single carriageway goes. A few years back a BMW tried to undertake me on a roundabout, resulting in her clattering into my nearside. Once I had recovered my composure, exchanged details etc, I thought the outcome would be straight forward. Oh no, she claimed I cut across into her carriageway, and my useless insurance company sided with her. Their take being that it "looked" wide enough to take 2 vehicles, despite dashcam evidence that at no time was she in front of me. By then I had not only given up arguing, but also the will to live. Sufficient to say I am no longer with that particular company. So "exactoris cave". (Or driver beware).

Interesting with the police van in Richmond park because even police vehicles are subject to speed limits when NOT responding to an emergency and should have lights and sirens on if they ARE responding to an emergency. There is also a rule (not yet a law) that covers drivers of emergency vehicles and I've put it below. Blue Light Driver Training There is no requirement for people driving emergency vehicles to be trained beyond a normal driving licence. Drivers of police, fire and ambulance vehicles who wish to be exempted from speed limits will be required to be officially trained. This rule has been included in a 2006 Act but it has not yet been made law. At present there is no indication as to when it will be made law. There are concerns that there will be too much demand for the existing driver training courses. Reference Road Safety Act 2006 Section 19. Technically speaking the speeding police vehicle could be stopped and the driver fined for speeding as he is not on an emergency call, he would have lights and sirens on if he was, but the odds on a police driver being stopped and given a ticket for speeding in Richmond park is non existent I would say. I've used the word "he" as we all know women don't speed🤣🤣🤣🤣

The police van could have been on a call. There are many times when they turn them off (not alerting an offender when they get near) and in this case it was a clear road ahead with no junction or roundabout.

Blue light trained officers don’t need to have their lights and sirens on, they just need an operationally justifiable reason for their actions. You are correct, individuals that are not blue light trained are allowed to drive police vehicles, they are just not allowed to turn the sirens on or break any rules of the Highway Code. However, a lot of forces (I think the Met is one of them) you have to do a basic driving exam before they deem you to be a “basic” driver.

Some years ago there was a three lane stretch of the A5 south of Dunstable. Northbound and southbound could use the middle lane for overtaking.Sometimes they did at the same time... Think what that would be like with today's driver's.
