If you watch Ashley Neil he actualy recommends doing what the van did, moving out to the right at an angle while indicating TO PARK on the left. To stop people pulling right up behind you when its busy. I have been doing this for years. I got so fed up in town with cars getting on my ass when I had indicated to parallel park well in advance, causing me to have to drive on and find another space!
@davesimms539729 күн бұрын
You should leave enough room to the vehicle in front IN CASE they are going to park. Then there is no need to do anything apart from wait.
@ryanmitcham552229 күн бұрын
A way to discourage people blocking your parallel park is to first stop alongside the space with your indicator on, then once the vehicle is stopped behind you move forward. That gives most drivers the hint. For the ones who are really dense and still move forward to block your park, then don't drive on, just sit there and let them solve the problem they created. You dont have to drive on because of a dense driver.

8:52 Yes, I do and it does help with flow. I can hear Tony now asking “How?” By taking the correct line around the roundabout you are going slightly slower on the approach which prevents all the conflict braking you see from some drivers that just go but also, if you are turning right like the van, by going around it means anyone turning left or even straight on or right from the side the van turned into is able to proceed earlier and better onto the roundabout That is my humble opinion of the subject and anything other than a mini roundabout could be detrimental to overall flow, not only at the junction but other junctions further along those roads
@johncranna9427Ай бұрын
I agree with you. If you are taking the route around the central island then the slower speed and the extra space on your inside will make negotiating the junction/roundabout so much safer.

At 11' 10", the elderly couple who walked into the "road" between the two kerbs on your left were on a footpath. Those two kerbs and the double yellow line indicate that that section is footpath and pedestrians have priority. That is why the two kerbs line up with the edges of the footpath before and after the junction. What they did do wrong was randomly move out into the road straight in front of your car and yes it would've been wise to check over their shoulder.

@ianmason.Ай бұрын
Not even necessarily "very easy to see". If you're just scanning the surroundings, as one should, it's quite possible for the lamp to be off as your gaze passes over the bike. I'd had a few "where he hell did he come from" moments where I know for a fact that I had been looking in a cyclist's direction a moment earlier during the off phase. Between every flash from that light at 0:43 it's off for 4, sometimes 5 frames, or 0.13 to 0.17 seconds, long enough to make it invisible under the wrong circumstances.

1:07 nothing wrong with that cyclist continuing at the Zebra crossing. You only legally have to 'give precedence' once they put a foot on the crossing. I actually think the pedestrian gave them a nod to carry on anyway. As a cyclist, I will rarely stop at a Zebra crossing. It's often just not safe to do so in traffic. The risk is the vehicle behind fails to stop, running over both the cyclist and the pedestrian. I'm not going to encourage a pedestrian to step out when it's going to put them (and myself) at risk. The only thing the cyclist did wrong there is they were far too close to close to the kerb. They should be positioned centrally in the lane in slow moving traffic like that, not riding in the gutter.

So he would have to back out if he went in forwards. You'd be the first to complain about him backing out onto the main road, so while what he's doing isn't strictly legal, it actually seems like the safer option. Easier to back into the road and be able to pull out straight after the delivery. I really don't have a problem with him doing that, it's actually a lot safer.

Driving down to a camp-site in South-West France about 17 years ago, travelling on a inter-village B road on very flat terrain as twilight onset, the a local driver ahead of me, who was travelling within the speed limit, suddenly and inexplicably jammed his brakes-on and brought his vehicle down to a crawl. The very straight and open road ahead of him was clear for at least 400-500 yards, except for one dark-blue vehicle oncoming. i could hardly make it out.
