Sean and John, I really enjoy your videos and I think I have seen all of them so far. I have subscribed and am a aviation fan. I wish I had gotten my license to fly long time ago. At 72 and with my health, I live the pilot life through you two. Ken

From the age is inevitable department, I worked that sector almost 50 years ago, although probably not as a journeyman. I went to High Altitude shortly after I was certified in Low. I remember almost nothing about it except that NEA (NAS Glynco) was still open and served as approach control. That facility is now occupied by FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center).

At 15:05 during speed checks, nutcrackers checked. Translation please! Love your channel
@CorporatePilotLife6 жыл бұрын
The speed checks part means that we have verified we are under the speed limitation for whatever selection was requested. For instance, flaps 10 has a limit of 250 knots. So when Jon asks for flaps 10, I verify that we are less than 250 and call "speed checks", then move the flap handle. As for the nutcracker, I'm going to refer you to a Tech video I did a while back on exactly that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaesc6CJos1shaM

Weather information has come such a long way. In 1977 a very tragic Southern Airlines DC-9 crashed in Georgia. The cause was a forced landing due to damage from encountering a hail storm. But underlying that was the lack of weather information the pilots had. Ground based doppler radar was implemented in the 1980 onward (before then just reflectivity, no velocity). On-board weather radar was not as good and, get this, back then there was little, if any, coordination between the National Weather Service and ATC. All that has changed Now, you have at least three sources for weather information, ATC (kept informed by NWS), on-board weather radar, and on your mobile devices. Amazing. (plus AWOS / ASOS constantly monitoring ground conditions at airports)
@CorporatePilotLife6 жыл бұрын
You are very correct. Even in my short career so far, there have been some drastic upgrades to the weather information available to us in flight.

Always appreciate and enjoy all your posts! Any chance on getting John to do a video of how he became a pilot and his path to the G4? Also wondered if you could go over what you’re actually doing when you always say to John “want me to clean it up” just after landing.
@jerrykorman77706 жыл бұрын
Joel3130 something tells me we are going to have to tie Jon down and waterboard the bugger to get his story. Cleaning up can refer to stowing spoilers/flaps and preparing the aircraft for stopping and engine shutdown
@CorporatePilotLife6 жыл бұрын
Jerry hit it right on. I like to wait till Jon is ready before stowing the spoilers and retracting the flaps, as it can sometimes cause a slight loss in brakes or steering
