Everyone please remember in order for Sean & Jon to continue providing the very best aviation content on KZbin, we must respect the privacy of the aircraft’s owners and passengers. It’s best for all involved if we don’t comment about individuals, corporations or groups associated with this aircraft. Keep in mind the safety, security & privacy of all involved. It’s a small price to pay for this wonderful KZbin channel.

You guys probably got that 350 heading initially since EWR departure and satellite were split, 126.7 is usually only open when the traffic volume is a little higher, and you get fed to the next controller through a more northerly gate. When its "slower", ewr and satellite departure is combined up on 119.2. Nice to see your videos departing TEB

Hey Sean and John! I wanted to thank you guys for continually bringing us along on your flights. It’s keeping me motivated to continue on with my flight training. I was supposed to get my PPL 2 years ago but some things came up and I had to put it on hold. Now I’m in a position to start up again but I’ve been thinking maybe it’s not worth it. I’ve been thinking this because I’m currently majoring in ATC as a fallback if flying doesn’t work out, but over the past few months I started thinking that maybe I’d be happy just pursuing ATC and using all the money I’ve saved up on an insane vacation over summer break. But videos like yours remind me that even though I’d be happy as ATC, I’d be much happier as a pilot. Your videos are helping me keep my eyes on the prize and continue with my training and hopefully I’ll finally get my PPL soon. Thank you guys.

One thing I do when I land is pull back on the yoke. It creates more drag and helps slow the aircraft down after landing. I should be able to taxi all the way to where I’m going without ever touching the breaks. I’ve noticed it before, and the new camera angle in this video shows that you guys let loose of the yoke on landing. Is that because pulling back on the yoke is not needed because of the reverse thrust? Keep in mind, I fly a KISS aircraft in a totally different environment.
@CorporatePilotLife
@CorporatePilotLife 6 жыл бұрын
AAHH...good old Keep It Simple aircraft. A friend of mine has a few of those...nice planes. Gulfstream recommends keeping the yoke pushed forward on rollout for positive pressure on the nose wheel. The drag provided by the elevator pulled back is quite trivial compared to the ground spoilers and thrust reversers.

Busy airspace over there Sean, but the weather on take off would be welcomed here (N.E UK) It's been IFR for almost three months solid! Have you been into Kortrijk (EBKT) in the Flanders region of Belgium? Hi Sean, not sure if you covered this in one of your previous video's. Has the "Engine synchronizing" after take off the same function as on twin prop's? I haven't seen this before on jets. Nice video as always!
@CorporatePilotLife

It basically has the same function. When it is not selected, the engines will be synced based on EPR. Once we turn it on, we can decide to sync based on N1 or N2 speed. This makes a big difference on the droning in the airplane.

Yep...Maui Jim Peahi. I love them...they're my second pair. They are polarized, so they really take the glare away beautifully.
@wiedehopf9068
@wiedehopf9068 6 жыл бұрын
i had read pilots should not use polarized to better spot traffic but i guess you can always take them off when looking for traffic and most of the time TCAS and controllers are the better source for traffic than just randomly looking outside. i got a pair of polarized sunglasses and the contrast seems much better, i wonder if they are even better for spotting traffic. but as i said it was just something i read and so i was wondering.

Why is it that in the middle of the takeoff that John grabs the yoke and says "my yoke"? Is he reactively taking control of the aircraft or is that just a standard practice when grabbing the yoke as you approach V speeds? I would think you both know who is going to be flying at that part of the flight. Your videos are great as always!
@CorporatePilotLife
@CorporatePilotLife 6 жыл бұрын
That is actually standard procedure. The person in the left seat keeps their left hand on the tiller until 80 knots, so the person in the right seat keeps the yoke until then. At that point, if the left seat person is to be flying, they take the yoke as you have seen.
@lancaster155

Makes sense! Now I see the correlation with the 80 knot callout. Thanks again!

So as 269 is in maintenance do you get time off, of get to fly another presidential jet? Be nice to see you fly a different airframe. Also, in this vid in the bumpy conditions the yolk was shaking like a stick shaker! Looked like flutter it was so severe. Is that normal during turbulence on autopilot or do you need the engineers to check the cable tensions?🤔
@CorporatePilotLife
@CorporatePilotLife 6 жыл бұрын
When the plane is in maintenance, like now, we get some time off. The yoke bouncing around is pretty normal. Every G-IV I've ever flown does this the same way in heavy turbulence.

Thanks for another great video. The yokes seem to oscillate more in your aircraft than in other jet aircraft. Is that a Gulfstream oddity?
@CorporatePilotLife

I can't speak for other Gulfstream models, but all the G-IVs I've flown do this in turbulent air.

Not sure where they were purchased, but mine are Maui Jim Peahi model...cost somewhere around $250. Jon wears Costa, but I'm not sure the model. I think his cost about the same.

Ok Sean, Jon, here is a rookie question. When taking off, it seems the gear comes up very early after you "rotate". How quickly can the landing gear re-deploy in case of an emergency?
@CorporatePilotLife
@CorporatePilotLife 6 жыл бұрын
To re-extend the gear takes about 10 seconds, but once we rotate, there's just about no reason we would do that. At that point, there's not enough runway to land on, so even if we lost an engine, were going up and coming back around to land on the full runway.

If I understood when taking off you had to level at 1500. I assume you would really have to roll back the throttles to keep below 250? I know you weren’t there for very long however.
@CorporatePilotLife
@CorporatePilotLife 6 жыл бұрын
That's correct, but we actually had to keep it below 200 knots initially. They get pretty picky about the 200 knot restriction in class D airspace

Why Jon always concern about finding other traffic ? That's a controller job will provide separation .
@CorporatePilotLife
@CorporatePilotLife 6 жыл бұрын
ATC is supposed to provide the separation, but ultimately, it is the pilot's responsibility to see and avoid in VMC conditions. Also, if ATC screws up and fails to provide the separation, they keep on living while the pilots pay the price. We would rather do our part to keep ourselves out of trouble.

Ebrahim Abdulla people are human and make mistakes. Better to be wary than ignorant. This also applies to driving a car. I’d rather wait a few moments when the light turns green, so the red light runners can blast through, than end up dead with “but I had the right of way” on my tombstone
