As a professional Industrial Designer I can tell you that you have no sense of design or continuity. You are bastardizing a perfectly beautiful surviving classic car. Stick to junk crap that doesn’t matter to any one or go to school and study basic principles of good design before you ruin any more classics.

Thank you. At my core I'm an engineer / designer / pattern maker and have been a student of art since an early age. Like you stated Chad has no sense of design - period. Everything he does is so disjointed, but then that's just probably a reflection of his vision in his dysfunctional brain. I don't think any amount of schooling would help. What I find disappointing is how many viewers have just as bad a design sense as Chad. Their standards are set so low.

The only thing everyone is learning right now is NOT how to do things. The roof is composed of compound curves. You can't make a flat sheet bend both ways. You needed to make a 'buck' and then lay and glue strips of thin veneer diagonally over the buck. alternating the direction of each layer, till you've built up a shell. Each layer would have to be held down with straps. Look at how the WWII De Havilland 'Mosquito' fuselage was made. Failing that, if you use a flat board, you'll have to use the dressmakers; method and take out 'tucks' in the sheet. But the tucks would cause noticeable sharp changes in contour of the sheet but you can't hammer and dolly or shrink or stretch wood to shape, like you can with sheet steel. You can push the sheet into place in one spot but it will inevitably pop up elsewhere. You can play "Whack - a -Mole' with a wood or cardboard sheet all day but it won't ever conform to a compound curve.
@d4l3d12 күн бұрын
He's going to find out too late especially when he sees how the side contours turn out
@autophyte12 күн бұрын
@@d4l3d Yes, those sides are really deeply curved in two directions. He's holding a straight edged ruler to the inner part, and imagining a straight line between the two spots, but further around, the curve can clearly be seen, both horizontally and vertically. But even if he eventually uses a stretchable material to overcome the problem, there's going to be flat sections between all of the ribs, making it look in contour, like a fabric top, not a smooth compound curve of a true Carson top.
@NYPatternMaker12 күн бұрын
>You can play "Whack - a -Mole' with a wood or cardboard sheet all day but it won't ever conform to a compound curve. Chad will do the same thing he always does... try to make a flat piece shaped - like the Doodlebug.

@@NYPatternMaker Yes, the rear of the doodlebug never worked out. There were multi chines showing when finished. He'd have needed an infinite number of pie slice shape sheets to make a real compound curve there. As it is, it looks like half a steel umbrella.

Chad this is advice, not hate, as you claim. You need to remove the top from the car, so you can get around it without climbing in and around the car on step ladders. Derrick even told you to do that, did you even listen to him, he said it is strong enough now to remove it from the car to work on it. Put it on a table, or some kind of stand where it is leval and you can get around it. Then stop sanding it with that electric sander wheel, hand sand it, or use a belt sander, you are butchering the wood, it looks like you carved on it with a pocket knife. Then get some clear plastic to make your patterns, you can see through it, and even draw lines on it if you need to, and if that does not work, get someone who knows what they are doing, you clearly do not, at one part of the video you even said this: CHAD: I don't know what I am doing That should tell your brain to call someone who does, and have them do it right, pay them to do the job right, and stop trying to wing it.

@@vonwolf2000 I agree with what you’re saying…. I was just trying to give my interpretation of what he says every video. We all know he should be able to afford a well equipped garage or maybe he chooses to be frugal like my Grandmother was and always put back for hard times( she grew up during the Great Depression). He talks about how he started from nothing so only he knows why he does what he does.

Chad you need to learn patience. When you had the man who did the wood working with you I fell like you were pushing him to move faster. When he would try and say something you would just take off and do it your way. And what happen to taking weekends off to spend time with your girl but no cars is all you think about you are going too loose her.

That's why no one wants to work with him and are always quitting including his son. Even his son couldn't stand working with him. He's a good fella just dangerously impatient and bossy. He got on Derrick last nerve and now he's complaining about her holding the cardboard he shouldn't be using to fabricate a cloth or vinyl top. You use fabric to accurately fit material on a roof That's going to have some type of cloth or fabric. I've watched him since he had his tv show and he messed up that gig and lost everyone who was helping and now it's just him and Jolene and the pup. He's going to push them away with his hard azz head.

Oh no! Derek’s professional woodwork will be completely ruined when amateur Chad starts putting the finishing touches on it. It would be better if Derek did the roof himself without the help of amateurs.

He is only trying to do it himself to save money, and that is another fact, if it was my car I would pay an expert to do it right, and Chad is a millionaire, he can afford it, he is just too cheap to do it.

I do upholstery work. You're on the right path...but you must roll your fabric from the middle of the top...then out to the sides. Hope you read this in time. Use thumbtacks to temporarily hold your fabric/ cardboard down. Nice work!!

Victor Cacho told Ian Roussel that as long as they listened to the car, it would tell them if they had it right, if they should keep going. This was on their radical Cadillac build that is, I think, still ongoing. Too bad Chad doesn't listen well as this car is screaming that it doesn't want to wear this ungraceful mess.
