The story with the Dad not supporting his sons dream because to him "that's not a real career path", that hits me so hard. I wasn't a great racing gamer. But back in old CoD MW 2 days I was invited to join a ESports team, but my Dad wouldn't let me because it's not real. I always wish he just supported me. I love my Dad, I always just think "what if?".

@@williamvanderscheer4327 Very true, however - it's the same with actual pro sports. Ok, maybe in football the percentage is a bit higher, but otherwise it's the exact same deal. On the topic of sim racers being able to compete with real racers; Current reigning F1 world champion Max Verstappen and by many considered the best driver in the world today, is also a huge proponent of sim racing and amongst the highest rated in many of the big games. He is so passionate about it that people often joke F1 is just a hobby while his sim racing is his actual career. Just a few weeks ago he won the virtual 24H of Nuerburgring ON THE SAME DAY that he won the imola grand prix in Italy. He also truly believes many of the skills aquired during sim racing can transfer to real life. In fact he is planning (and in the process of) setting up his own racing team to do just that; bring sim racers onto real tracks.

You mentioned that top racers use sims. A good one to note is that Max Verstappen, the current F1 champion, also competes in Iracing doing GT racing. During the F1 Imola Grand Prix he also took part in the virtual 24h Nurburgring, and his team won it with him doing two stints as well as qualifying pole then winning the irl F1 race. It's amazing to see how far sim racing has come and how much more respect people have for it now, and Jann Mardenborough (and the Nissan team) is a huge part of that. Even though it's not 100% accurate to what actually happened, this movie is amazing fun to watch.

Loved this movie! What seemed weird in terms of just how *most* races work; You can't just block a pass on a *turn* without being frowned upon. Straightaways are obviously wide enough to allow you to do so with less risk of crashing or wiping someone out. But on turns, you can't bump someone out or close that space, or else, you'll be penalized. It's even penalized on Gran Turismo online when detected. In the words of Fernando Alonso: "All the time! You have to leave-a the space!"

Ahh and John Salter was in movie kind of combination of all the coaches that Jann had and not exactly at hte same time

I thought the full trailer for this movie was initially fantastic. I think the issue was not the trailer, but the preconception audiences have with the number of poor video game movies, to believe the movie could live up to the trailer, and that was the bigger issue. And besides the movie trailer showing the inclusion and performance of David Harbour to show the movie’s quality, the reason I was willing to give the movie a chance to live up the the fantastic trailer was the director’s name at the end, Neill Blomkamp. And indeed, he elevated the video game genre here.

I love this movie, some fun facts vs fiction for you guys: 1. The plot of Jann's dad not being supportive of his dream was not true, his dad was fully supportive of him. 2. Jann's dad really was a professional soccer player, even though he didn't have a long career. 3. Orlando Bloom's character was fictional. 4. The character Jack Salter was not a real person but was inspired by real life figures Richard Divila and Gavin Gough. 5. Nicholas Capa is a fictional character designed to move the plot along. 6. Jann actually went through a few test races before he qualified for the academy, not just the one like film portrayed. 5. Lastly like ya'll pointed out the crash was real where a spectator did die in that accident in 2015. Mardenborough competed in La Mans two years before the incident at Nurburgring. Hope this was helpful.🙏

The accident at the Nurburgring actually happened IRL and it actually killed people. but also the section of track where it happened is called Flugplatz which translates literally to "Airfield" because of how cars lift off at that section. also this movie may not be the most realistic when it comes to a racing fans perspective but it is fun and tells Jann's story decently well. Also if Y'all enjoyed this film you would love Ford V Ferarri, quite literally the best and most realistic racing movie ever! also even the live action speed racer movie from 2008 is fantastic as a racing film.
