They don’t develop 2K to be a main game. They develop it to be like a phone game. The sheer amount they make with the gimmicks means they’ll never improve. There’s probably hardly anyone there that still cares about actual basketball. The reason why games like POE are good and engaging and keep you coming back is because the developers and leadership understanding what makes a lasting game. There’s a great seminar from GGG called “how to make a game that lasts forever” or something like that I highly recommend watching. It will explain exactly why a game like 2K fails for actual fans.

Badgey the problem in this game is it’s hard to have fun no matter how you play. At least for me it doesn’t matter if I try to play casual or sweaty, it’s the same results. It’s just not fun. I have 3 builds and I can do a lot with all of them at 7’. It’s frustrating even when I’m just trying to have fun because it’s not fun, then when I’m trying to play sweaty the game is just way to random to enjoy it that way.

The gameplay is actually good when you play the AI. My career is fun. The reason it looks bad in multiplayer is because of people. Most people don’t play the game like it’s a Basketball game, they play it like it’s a Video Game. Running behind screens for that 1 sec to shoot a long 3 ball, making builds solely for legend badges, constantly reaching for steals…etc. Terrible basketball, but effective video gaming. People make the experience bad, but the game is decent. They need to add Manual hand switching dribbles like they had in 2k20. That will improve the game a lot.

i still think the underlying engine for this game is terrific. offline multiplayer feels amazing, runs incredibly smooth, and lets you actually appreciate the dribbling, off ball movement, and other shit the lag messes with online. there’s also less random bullshit like the blown layups, meta cheesing, ridiculous rebounding advantages. this game is honestly sooo close to being a good game that it’s infuriating seeing them progress away from an actual fun product
