At 1:14 you see his plane climbing vertically from the treeline in the middle of shot (beyond the roof of the red brick building ahead). He makes it to the dark grey cloud, disappears momentarily and then comes straight down. Looks like he was trying to level out right before disappearing behind the treeline.
