The biggest dance craze of my lifetime was clearly "The Twist". Nothing came close.Chubby Checker became (and still is) a national icon. Even Sam Cooke did a twist record.

It was a great time to be growing up. As a small child in the 50’s and early 60’s, my older siblings taught me all the latest dance steps. Then all the new dance steps were learned watching American Bandstand!! In the midst of all that somewhere along the line I learned country and western dancing!!! We didn’t ‘twerk’ but we certainly got a workout dancing! Also had the greatest music ever - proof being those songs are still played, still loved by the younger generations coming up.

To all who wish today was like then, it's better to wish to be back then than to try and make it happen on purpose. Don't forget the older folks living in the 60's who despised what the times were coming to and longed for their youth. They looked back on the 30s and 40s, even 20s, bragging about much better things were so it's very subjective. It wasn't a perfect era at all and it wasn't all about going to discotheques and doing the Frug. Make not the mistake of idealizing any era.

I was just thinking how in order to get recordings like this you would either have to be a TV company with very very expensive video recording machines, or to use a cine camera with expensive film. You could build a small housing estate for the cost of a video recorder. The BBC rubbed out thousands of hours of video recordings of programs like Morcam and wise because the tape was so expensive. No wonder there isnt much footage like this around. Thanks for posting it BadKarma
