to extend the life of the motor.. I pack the reduction gear with "Black Moly grease LI2"(Lithium 2) specifically for this application.. Don't use anything but the black moly li2 in your reduction gear.. (thick like creamy peanut butter). If you have a noisy motor, that means something is rubbing and will eventually damage the motor. Packing the reduction gear increases range and stability of the motor and makes it quiet again..

I use Mobilgrease 28. It's expensive, but you can notice the difference when you pedal.

In convos, the sentiment is the spades are just a temporary roll-out as tooling and final touches are put into the products for full ramp-up. JST's are likely to be installed on first official prod launches.

Not proprietary - just another type of connector from Julet. They're not as common, but adapters (and pinout diags) exist. Should be able to reuse our existing periphs with those.

UART is indeed awesome, but CAN offers a lot more for granularity, and as you noted, control! I see this being an easy 'win' for manufacturers utilizing Bafangs' tech.

yeah a lot of other upgrades use CAN bus. in the future there could be integration with internal geared hubs with auto shifting. they would likely use CAN

UART is not awsome. And what you mean by control with CAN controllers? CAN controllers have lot less parameters to set. Here we will be lucky if you will be able to set max power at each pas. M500, M600, older M620 did not have this option and was everything hardcoded.

Thanks for the update. Here is my question. I've got 2 BBS02 builds that I'm happy with. I've got a 3rd motor on the shelf. At some point in the next year, I want to do two more builds (to home in another state where my son lives). Would I be better off to get a Uart style kit so the builds are the same and can share/swap components or not worry about it, and just know that one build is all CAN style components and controller. How long will you think you'll be able to sell older style kits?

This makes me wonder, if you consider that CYC seems to have enabled the ability to tweak your controller settings via Bluetooth, does Canbus have an advantage over Bluetooth?

Waveshare has a uart to can adapter for $8.99. bi-directional communication. I am not a fan of those stupid connectors anyway. Like we need more weird shaped connectors to stock. Just cut the ends and use whatever you want you can easily make your own "waterproof" sleeves to go over whatever connector you want to use. Use the marine shrink tubing that has glue in it and the large normal shrink tubing to make sleeves that fit inside each other. Use the marine stuff on the outside so you get a waterproof bond at the wire and the normal shrink tube. You only shrink the marine stuff, leave the normal stuff unshrunk so you can roll it back to get to your connector. It's a bicycle, not a submarine. It just needs to keep the rain and snow out.

John.. if someone wants all the UART peripherals, can they bring a CAN fitted motor to you to replace wll the CAN with UART..?

Reduced wiring: Utilizing Ethernet allows for fewer cables in the vehicle, reducing weight and simplifying the wiring harness."

I just got my new BBS02 750w kit.. the website looked like UART... and there are no directions in the box.. There are no youtube videos on how to install the new CAN motor kits.. My kit cables / light cables look different from yours.,, Hopefully i will be able to set the wheel size on the new CAN kit.. i have the old UART programming cable.. and if the new pc18 display won't let me set the wheel size to 26"... i'm going to be in trouble... There was nothing wrong with the old UART kit.. why the change..

Install should be the same essentially as the video I made for it. The old UART program cable will not work with the new motors, though you need to get a specific one made for it, which I do carry but it is quite a bit more expensive.

@@JohnnyNerdOut you just hit the nail on the head, this required New Cable "is quite a bit more expensive". This is what Apple does with their computers. you buy a new one and none of the old cables, apps, peripherals are compatible.. you must buy all new (multiple) $40 cables to get the new computer up and running. Some of us are awake to the planned obsolescence . LOL

@@SkateFit1 As of time of writing, any batteries that theoretically work with prev UART models should be compatible with CANN models. Theirs no "checks" or handshakes in the CAN models that would interact with batteries, other than basic reads on params.

One of the benefits of conversion is that it is not proprietary. Bosch has not been able to break in to the market with their kit (kind of nest looking) partly for this reason?it is popular among recumbent builders, but that could be just because they tend to be a bit elitist). The ToSeven DM01 is so very close to The BBSHD, but a lot simpler, lighter and technically legal. It can be programmed in so many parameters from the display. Why would someone spend more for the Bafang BBS02, plus the expensive programmer? I am not trying to be snarky. Sorry, I see it reads that way. I really want to know. Some might say it is for Bafang's legendary reliability and quiet, but heck , used within reasonable, the 144+ TSDZ2's I've installed ha e even been amazingly reliable.

@JohnnyNerdOut I'd love a 750w mid drive electric velomobile. They're expensive but I'm really liking the idea of a mid drive velomobile that could handle crusing at 35 -40 mph....Especially a 4 wheel Quattrovelo velomobile. That could be custom built. With a fully enclosed lid & where the seat could unfold out flat into a bed. So your velomobile could convert into a weatherproof sleeping pod. Sorta like a micro motorhome. With an electric jacket in winter & some 12V fans for Sumner possibly also 12V cooling peltiers & a mini ice cooler to stay cool. The AC system could be a combination of small 12V DC fans & peltiers that blow air through the small ice cooler blowing out cool air. The body of course would be covered in thin lightweight laminated solar cells. Might have room for 75w worth.....Velomobile/ mini Aptera mini electric motorhome. Crusie across USA using fold up lightweight solar panels stored in mini trailer. That double as shade awnings for the velomobile & campsight.

is this also 750w and same number of amps.. this is what computer companies do. they make the computers software update incompatible with your old Apps and peripherals. That way you not only have to buy a new computer you have to buy all new cords and gadgets.. it is planned obsolescence. I just ordered a UART BBS02 that is compatible with all my backup parts.. And i don't want to fill the landfill with new (unusable) electronics. Green Baby..!

the M435 and M635 bought some real improvements, Magnesium casing, torque sensor, heavy duty construction. It came with the CAN protocol and you definitely needed BESST, because for some reason, stock configuration is always total garbage with bafang motors. overrun, poorly calibrated torque sensor etc. converting the BBS02 to CAN is totally pointless, they'd better figured out how to make the M435 more affordable and ship it with proper parameter settings. if aluminium instead of magnesium would have significantly cut the price they would be stupid to insist on shedding a few grams with a different metal. nobody cares if the motor weighs 200g more or less
