You did what was best for him, there is no doubt in my mind. You tried everything to make his life better and less stressful. I've never seen a rat act the way he does and I hope I never have to deal with something like that. It's terrifying. So you absolutely did what was best by giving him to someone who can hopefully find him a group that better fits his personality. He deserves to be happy with other rats.

I gotta say, watching Humbugs memories and realizing just how loved and happy he was and how many memories you make with him makes his tragically short life all worth it. People always say “i can’t own rats cause they don’t live long enough”, which I respect but you get to make so many memories with so many rats! So many stories to tell! Rats remain permanently interesting and amazing and cute it makes it all worth it. Humbug was a very sweet boy (reminds me of Boh honestly, my heart rat) and he’ll live with you forever! ❤️‍🩹

I'm so sorry about humbug, my heart's absolutely broken. Saying goodbye to our furry family members is probably one of hardest things to do and I just wanna say I'm so proud of you, I think you've definitely done the right thing for him. Thank you for showing everyone this, it's a very personal thing for you and it was nice of you to let us say goodbye to him too. I hope you give yourself enough time to deal with all the emotions that come from losing a family member and if you need anything don't be afraid to let us know we'll all be more than happy to help you, support you and of course give you space if needed. Ooooof. I was not prepared for the footage of you and Humbug. 😭💔 But he absolutely knew he was loved by you and all of his rat friends. I've kept mice since 2017 - the first couple of mice that I'd had to have PTS, I was not allowed to be in the room. And I think that was the most heartbreaking thing. Because all we want to do is make sure they know they're safe and loved in the end. Thankfully, my current vet does allow me to be in the procedure room, though when COVID first started, I had one mouse that .. I was allowed in the vet's office, but not in the room. I'm hoping it will be back to normal if I need to make that call with my little boy. But, the tl;dr is I'm so sorry for your loss. No matter how small they are, they hold a huge piece of our hearts. I'm glad you were able to be with him in the end. It's hard, but (at least in my experience), it's a comfort. RIP Humbug 🐀

You literally did everything you could and did everything right with Bagel. Tons of people would just not even try and just stick them in a cage by themselves and we all know that is not what’s best for the rat. You’ve done everything possible to give him the best chance at a good life.

I am so sorry for your loss. I raised and loved Rats for over 30 yrs, after 2 vet euthanasia's in the early days and horrible trauma to myself and the boys, I switched to dry ice. No drama, and they passed at home. They never died with their fists balled up which a lot of people are not aware a ratto does when they pass in pain.

Belated Condolences. I had to hold tears several times. Goodbyes will never be easy. ------ In 2019, l got a Russian Hamster from Petco, In few days I noted some minor health issues and took him back to their vet.. aside he was VERY agressive. They told me to just grab another...and they would resell him, I imagined they wouldn't give him further vet care and he would end up with a toddler tossing and killing him after the first bite. (He ALWAYS bit EVERYONE) This is different from Bagel because Hannibal was a Hamster, they do well alone, so whatever agressive behaviour was between us and I could handle it. I mean I totally understand and support Emiology / Bagel's case. Fast forwarding I paid all his vet bills, I respected, protected ,loved him for the next 3years. He was always agressive but he got used to me and became nicer. After 2.6 years he had cancer, got treatment, weekly check ups and was euthanized on Jan/7/2022 short before his 3rd b'day 🎂🐭 I cried a lot...even got depressed. I truly loved and gave him the best possible life ever, the biggest habitat I could build (155x50 cms floor space) + Levels, toys, tunnels, the best food etc. He was really spoiled. Mostly thanks to Victoria Raechel's hamster care tutorials. ------ Hannibal is dearly missed. He turned out to be one of the pets I loved and miss the most. 💖🐭🏰💖 My King 👑 Hannibal.

OMG i cant relive this right now (sad face here) Im so happy i have been able to have such a deep connection with every single one of my little ones in the last 8 years and it never gets any easier! I pray that someone can perfect a breed that lives as long as dogs or ferrets do. Everyone here already knows what 99% of this planet doesn't we have tapped into one of the most precious caring affectionate loving playful innocent little souls that we have all been lucky enough to experience their time here with us! Every single rat i feel is just as smart as a human they think have amazing memories they can tell if something changed they know voices they really are the most amazing little souls on the planet! I’m so sorry about Humbug! Whenever I have to put down a rat I always stay with them (my vet allows it) and I always bring their siblings so that they can say goodbye as well and don’t just think that their cage mate disappeared. It is always sad but they do have a short lifespan and we have to give them the best life that they can an have even if it short.

I had to pause cause I'm crying so much. I've had many pets but two losses have hit me especially hard. Years ago, losing my rat Champion without saying goodbye bc I was on the other side of the country and having to put my dog Peko to sleep last year because of kidney disease. Your goodbyes reminded me of mine with Peko and what I wish I could've had with Champ ;-; Humbug was SO loved and he knew you would always protect him, especially from unnecessary pain, even if it meant making a difficult decision. Omg my heart broke when u showed the clip of u and humbug in the car...brings back so many memories of when i took my hamsters in to there last goodbye.... i stayed with all my hansters and dog when they were in there final sleep,its a hard thing to do but it comforts them knowing ur there. Rest easy Humbug , say Hi to My Houdini , he just crossed the 🌈 bridge too. We have rules in place at all vets here. No people allowed in clinics. I have always been with my boys when they cross. So we learned and made our Humane co 2 camber with a special way for us to told them as they pass. I couldn't bear them to be along during this. Much love and respect Emmie

Sorry to hear that. You have been a great help to me and my husband he. Came home from Manchester city centre 4 days ago with 2 pet rat's that he took off 3 young man that had been using them to scare young girls and were just going to leave them on the streets but he brought them home and at first I thought I would never like them but I have fell in love with them both and now we are trying to get them everything that they need and you have been so helpful with helping us understand how we need to look after them and now they're part of our family and we appreciate everything you do to make people understand how to look after them and how great they are as pets

Shed a few tears for the two boys. Having rats is SO rewarding but at times it is SO stressful. I have an aggressive neutered rat, I’m about to try him with a different group of males but if that doesn’t work I’m going to have to try and rehome him to someone with a group of girls. It sucks ! I’m proud of you for making that tough call and I hope that he finds success in his new situation

Being able to be with Little Eddie (pts on Friday 9mnths respiratory/stress 😔😒😔😔...Thank-You so much wonderful friend for getting Eddie to the vet so gently😌) ..and a really professional and compassionate vet vet who explained what was a best way to pts a little rat. This vet also said "..if this was my rat.." and explained why this was better than that... Thanks Amazing PDSA! Also my beautiful friend! ...and Eddie my brave little friend! 💓💞💖

You’ve really had a rough start to the year. I’m very sorry for you loss. I went through the same thing with my rats during the first wave. Not being able to hold your pets in your arms as they pass away just doesn’t help with closure. I mean I know the vets have to do what they have to do so they don’t get completely shut down but I still wish there was another option. Well we know that Bagel is stubborn, so don’t quit on him. I’m sure with the breeders many options they can find some other rats to match his personality. I hope the next following weeks give you a break from all these struggles. Big hugs.

aww I'm so sorry about your rats! I had a mouse that was literally my best friend and was always with me outside, inside, for hours and we had such a close bond. When he died it hit me really hard and I've had mice since but our bonds do not compare. I got another mouse a couple weeks ago and we are already pretty close but I can't imagine how sad that must be for you. You take such awesome care of your rats and I admire it. You are committed to loving your rats and providing them with the best home! He definitely had an awesome life!

I have a rat just like bagel named Miso. He is so sweet with other rats, but aggressive towards me. I got him neutered and nothing changed. I’ve had him for over two years now and it’s hard because I’m scared to handle him. I didn’t return him because the nurturing was very expensive, and he has a lot of love for his buddy Maple and vise versa. He’s very passive so maple sometimes picks on him but at the end of the day I find them cuddling. He’s getting old and so is maple so I’ve tolerated him this long haha
