Your car either on the inside of the fuse panel or owners manual should have a list or view of which fuse is to which scource. Ignition scources is kina up to you to find as I don't want to tell you anything wrong

This video is great, helped a ton. I don't know if it's because I got a cheap multimeter or what but I just got random numbers Everytime I tested the fuses. What ended working is if I was to put the black probe on metal instead of in the fuse with the red probe to test. So if you're having a similar problem try putting the black on any metal in the car. Hope I explained that well.

Hey, good video but ACC power and IGN commonly gets blended. For example, I can’t run a DC-DC charger on ACC. My engine isn’t running but my starter battery is charging my aux battery. IGN source is really referred to when the engine is running. Ex: Alt D+

Although effective, Testing for power at fuses like that is a good way to set a check engine light. If you aren't paying attention you could pull an ignition fuse and have no key on. There are two small holes in the top of the fuses directly above the legs of the fuse. You can poke these with a grounded test light or with your multi meter grounded and have the same results, but no pulling fuses. I believe you were seeing voltage drop when "testing" because you were directing the voltage through your multimeter, rather than just checking for voltage. You also need to be careful while doing this because multimeters can not hold many amps if something were drawing a significant amount. Believe mine is rated for 10 amps.

Yes you are absolutely correct! Using the small holes in the top of the fuse is a much simpler and quicker way.

This method is more for tapping into an existing source. For what you are doing it sounds like you might want to have an independent power supply.

My Standalone harness has a red wire that is used for power, Key on power. I was told that I would use a 50 amp fuse to hookup to. Do you see any issues to doing this? I have some 10awg fused links if that is the correct name for them. they are 30amp fuses. What is your thoughts on this?

I dont get it... why are you connecting the black probe of multimeter to the fuse? shouldn't it be connected to GND? (that is, to negative battery pole or to chassis?) I mean, if you connect both multimeter probes to the fuse, as I understand you would be measuring the voltage drop in the fuse itself?

Yes you can connect the negative probe to the negative battery terminal or any ground as well.

Recommended practice is to place the fuse near the positive terminal of the battery or power source, so the whole circuit will be dead if the fuse blows.

Would you want that 3 amp fuse for running a sound system or would having the tapped fuse be enough of a fault bridge?

You can use the sounds system as long as it turns on when the car turns on and isn't activated by turning the radio on.

You don’t have to remove the fuse when your testing for 12v easy way to do it is get a Marker so you can mark the ones that stay on then turn off the key with door close bc you don’t want the power to stay on until you open the doors you want it off as soon as the car is off

If the fuse tap doesn't work you'll want to look into using a wiring T-Tap as your way of connecting to an ignition source.

If you're good with a soldering iron(not a recommended way) you can strip the wire back, slip on some string tube, solder it to a fuse (buy a few lol) and then heat shrink the remaining exposed wire. There are low profile fuse taps but it's more of you needing to put eyes on it to verify it'll work

You do know you don’t have to unplug each fuse, just connect one lead to the top of a fuse, the little metal piece, and connect other lead to negative terminal on battery, 10x faster and easier

The alternator has its own power source from the accessory belt and battery. So no it will not work.

The 3amp fuse is a used inline to prevent blowing the fuse you are tapping into. You don't want the fuse in your fuse box to blow.

My question is. On my system I'm supposed to find a true ignition source, meaning when finding the ignition wire and cranking the vehicle there should not be any voltage drop. I'm having trouble finding an ignition source that would not drop amperage. I assume on one of the relays may be an ignition wire that would not drop voltage but don't know how to connect it.

@@jzflsrtis300 the voltage will drop because the battery is cranking the starter, once the engine is on the alternator will charge the battery and you should see no drop.

Looks like you fall to mention in the fuse box. The load and your draw side. You know fuse has a draw side. The side that everyone use and the attachment fails. Not everyone is an expert!!!!!

Well, that entirely depends on the job, what you or a customer wants or the vehicle. I've done one with a friend using your method and I've just wired a fuse tap to the fuse box under the hood of my RV. I have three scources but because I have plans for one, the other is a converter and the panel under the hood is just right, I went with that option.
