These were prized in 1980's Canada, there was also a Chinese made version that was lesser quality. The hooded front sight, nicer trigger and trigger guard along with the but plate and over all nicer finish distinguished it from the Chinese model. These break bolt type guns were always superior to the pump style air guns of the time in my opinion.

Thanks for the video, I literally just got my IZH38 back from my dads place last week. A few things that might interest you; I bought mine in Australia in 1985 and it's branded "Vostok" with a serial number which is 6 digits long starting with a 6. Also, my rifle has a barrel release lever, and an elevation wheel on the rear sight. It also came with a replacement spring and leather washers, but unfortunately they've been lost by someone in the family along the way. I probably fired off a few thousand pellets in the few years that I had it, and I found it reasonably accurate (I could hit birds that were eating the crops) out to about 25 metres.

I also have one like yours, bought in Greece in 1985. I still have the original box, spare spring and leather washers, it also had a cleanning rod . It has the release lever but it is not branded at all. Just "MADE IN USSR". The rear sight is slightly bended to the left (like the one on the video), I thought it was damaged, but it points acceptable. Is yours the same?

Trigger can be easily tuned by chopping two small Springs in trigger mechanizm , and by filling trigger to shorten the trigger way.

I have one that had as a kid 80-90s and now have it with parents passed away. Is a later version as 695XXX. It has rails for scope and the stock is slightly different at the front. It says made in USSR Vostok. Has same plastic parts tho trigger guard no metal. The sight has a flat screw on top of it.

Anyone with a bluebook could tell me the value? Im am looking at one only thing stated is the barrel lock is "a bit loose" wich isnt a good thing on a break barrel but I really like the look and vintageness of it 😁

My father gave me that same exact model as a gift when I was young. But mine has rails for scope. I still have and using it, 34 years later. During our early twenties, me and a friend, opened it up and kinda filled the spring chamber with copper tube and shimmed it with pennies. I would say we had crazy ideas at that time, but my wife would say things haven't changed that much since, but anyway... So, I think we've disassembled and reassambled the rifle 5-6 times until we get the spring compressed to its maximum. I remember we shimmed it to the point where it was just a question of the thickness of a single penny to got the rifle able to armed or not. The first shot we did after that "fine tuning process" was on a .3/8" pressed wood sheet we used to shoot on, from a distance of about 15 feets. The pellet passed right throught it...! Though it was pressed wood not plywood, we were damn impressed! hahaha! 'Cause before the modification, the pellets were not even close to pass throught it. I don't know if it was the hardness of the pellets, the short distance of the shot or the energy deployed by the fully compressed spring, probably all of these! But that was crazy! We had and still have so much fun with this air rifle! Oh, and by the way, the cooper tube and pennies still in it. But the rifle doesn't provide as much power today.
