Defending Bakhmut was worth it. We can see now how hard it is to get back even a hilltop or small fortified positions. On top of that, over 10 months, 3 settlements were leveled: Mariinka, Avdiivka and Bakhmut. By retreating in february, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk and Lyman would have been at risk of being demolished too.

Exactly, but also the Russians have spent 9 months or so bogged down there and lost many men and vehicles in the process, the UAF. stalled any further Russian advances elsewhere and held them at Bakhmut meaning that they couldn't be used anywhere else. 👍🏻 If it hadn't been for Wagner group Russia probably never would've eventually occupied all of this now demolished city! On the fighter jet front, recent reports here in Australia show that Canberra is in talks with Ukraine and the US over sending 43 F/A-18 Classic Hornets to Ukraine. (Some were sold to Canada, but not all. These are those remaining ones in storage.) It would be a smart, unexpected gift for Ukraine, as the Hornet is said to not too dissimilar to the F-16 that training would not be much of a stretch (apparently). That said, there are some hurdles, because being American jets, the White House must approve the transfer. However, if this enthusiasm for F-16s keeps up, enough Hornets to fill an entire squadron may show up. I hope this is expanded on later in June. Thanks for the informative content. Good luck to Ukraine!

@sicKlown86
@sicKlown86 10 ай бұрын
I think the Hornet may be a better choice overall as the Falcon was always meant to be used from a NATO standard airbase with long manicured runways while the Hornet's carrier based design means it should fair much better on the shorter and less maintained airfields that Ukraine has access to. They both have radars that outclass the Mig-29 and can carry just about any available NATO missiles and/or bombs so they won't loose anything on that front.
@silerius4856

I would be surprised to see F/A-18’s in Ukraine unless the war continues into 2024 or 2025. It may not be the F-22 or F-35, but I think the F/A-18 Super Hornet is still one of the US military’s primary jet-fighters. Maybe I’m just thinking of the upgraded versions (“4.5 Gen”?), but the US govt has little desire to share their currently used aircraft with non-NATO allies. Then again, the F-16’s seemed out of reach for Ukraine and recent news reports claim that Ukrainian soldiers are now being trained on F-16’s. If they start fielding F-16’s within 8 months (this may be unrealistic) I could maybe see the F/A-18 appearing on the battlefield within 1.5 years. The US could also finish the NGAD (Next Generation Air Dominance) program before the war ends and if that happens, then I think it’s much more likely that Ukraine will receive many Western jet-fighters.

Speaking slightly more on Sholz, I have been surprised at the videos I have seen lately of him openly and somewhat angrily expressing his Pro-UA views, denouncing anti-war protesters. Whatever side you support, this is not the Sholz that many people think of when they think of the man. He has always been stoic to almost a self torpedoing degree, almost aloof. Him showing such strong personal support makes me have some hope in him and his support for Ukraine. It also makes me wonder if Germany will truly start the overhaul of its military like it promised a while ago.

The fact that we get free videos on KZbin by Kings & Generals is truly a gift. 👏👏👏 May I remind you the forgotten fact that Native Americans population in their motherland, Continent of America before the European Colonizers arrived, was around 15 millions, while European population in their motherland, Continent of Europe was around 25 millions. Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering 'TWO BILLION'! A shockingly sad truth. In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return North/South America and Australia/New Zealand in Asia-Pacific to rightful owners Native American people and Native Asian-Pacific people. Remember, notorious global cardinal crimes the Christian West has committed, and benefited a great deals, such as Slavery & Colonialism had long been over, why on earth is notorious Colonization still lingering on, may I ask?

You are purchasing ownership of a very small piece of dedicated land in Scotland. You do not get the right to vote in the House of Lords (different Lord) or a "peerage" or keys to a palace. While it had operational importance for Russians, as they had to get through Bakhmut to complete the annexation of Donbas, Bakhmut had marked strategic importance for Ukraine. Don't look at what people are saying, look at facts. Those hills at the N and NE and the fact that it was a town with concrete-made (communist era) several stories buildings made from Bakhmut a perfect spot for a sustained defense, in order to grind the Russian manpower and equipment and get more time to train their own troops.

It is important to note too, that the Russian Freedom Legion has not crossed into into Belgorod for any permanent occupation. They have stated in videos that these are "raids" and they are merely going in for the purpose of destroying equipment, recruiting soldiers and harassing the enemy, receiving minimal losses for great gains. It is only an added benefit that this is occurring on Russian soil. Any "retreat" by these forces, is simply them calling off the raid, but they intend on eventually draining the Russian supply and mustering enough men to hopefully, but with no posted date, to march all the way to the Kremlin. Meaning that even if the war in Ukraine is concluded, these Russian soldiers intend to continue their campaign.

USSR also lost millions defending their major cities during the height of german offensives, i think it was something like 2.5-3 times the soldiers germany lost on the same front. Germany had also began to run quite low on fuel at the time, causing them to not be able to use their strong tanks and tactics that go along with vehicular warfare. Many factors played a role in the waining German army during the Soviet counter-offensive.
