Yvonnie, you can cover the bowl of butter with a paper towel, and when it pops, which is inevitable, it wont splash anywhere!

Also if you have a power button you can lower the power and that basically pulses the microwave on and off from what I understand.

For the butter your microwave should have a low setting, so it shouldn't pop as much!

You can always melt butter in a pot on a stove on low heat, it doesn't explode nor gets burned then

like what others said here. microwave your butter on lower power. even when doing this, you can always pause it once it bubbles and continue again after a sec.. these steps should work for most microwaves.. microwave time + "power button" + 0-9 (each single number represents a percentage, like 5 will be 50%, or 7 is 70%, etc.) + start

You could also not cook the butter so long. Do it in smaller increments. If it’s cold but and not soft you can do it 30s and then add more time. Then you can prevent the exploding butter. If the butter is softer you might want to do a lower number. Until you got the system down on melting butter without the exploding part.

You put butter in for 10 seconds at a time then when you see it's melted some you can mix it all together and it's all set
