How do I change the colour of the hair? I'm planning to have black hair for my character. would this be done in XGen or would I change something in photoshop?

I usually build my diffuse maps in photoshop using a combination of the height, ao, root and unique map. I believe you can edit the default hair shader though and render that like you would any other material pass

I would say you can probably to a custom setup in UE using root gradient maps as masks. Then, you use them to control different color between root/mid/tip
