I'm 65, been cooking and baking since I was about 10yrs old, taught my daughters and now my Grandsons how to enjoy cooking and baking.Im so fed up of the usual loud , cocky tv chefs.So it is wonderful to watch your tutorials, delivered in a straight forward, informative and friendly way.I always make whatever you put on line, it's like having a friend in my kitchen, and your recipes are very affordable and delicious. Thankyou so much for your tutorials, school children should be shown them, especially so they can learn that cooking doesn't need lots of excited shouting , or made to look too difficult to attempt.I look forward yo your next recipe, they are so relaxing to watch.Take care, best wishes from Yorkshire

I love to bake, I would rather bake than cook 🫢. I taught my two daughters to bake. I found out a few years ago that I am actually adopted 🤨, we went through to Edinburgh to look at my adoption papers, and I saw that my birth father had been a baker, so maybe that’s where I get the love of baking from.

Hi, me again , Inger from Yorkshire, hope all viewing this channel are well, and enjoying the relaxed and comforting presentation. I didn't have any black treacle , but really wanted to try the ginger cake recipes However, I made it using golden syrup and dark brown sugar, and the result was fabulous. It was light, spongy and very very moreish, the best ginger cake recipe I've ever used . I'm off to try the Victoria sandwich cake. Please keep these wonderful recipes coming.

That looks delicious - adding it to my ‘must try’ list. I wonder if you could do a steamed pudding? All the recipes I’ve looked at have lots of expensive ingredients, but, I’m sure there must be a simple and inexpensive one - to have with ice cream or custard 🙏🏼

I think it would be good to buy measuring cups and spoons if you are making recipes because if you use those teaspoons, it’s not exact, plus people who aren’t paying attention may assume you mean the measuring spoons and then get the recipe wrong

@@BakingOnABudget oh that’s good, I’m glad, you know when I was younger I didn’t even know what measuring cups were, that’s why I mentioned it, me and my fam used to bake stuff at home with drinking cups and dining spoons and wonder why our food never came out right 😂 figured it out afterwards though and i love baking now

I think there's something missing here - the price of how much a dozen eggs cost. Unless the UK sells single eggs? Because if my recipe calls for 1 egg, but I can only buy a minimum of 6? That's way more expensive than 13 pence.

I get my eggs from a local supermarket, 15 for £1.99. But I only used 1 in this recipe that's 0.13p. I used the others in others recipes and that cost is included in those recipes. But yes you have to buy more than one at a time, but the price of this recipe is still the same.

OMG there was this book I had as a kid by Enid Blyton and she mentions ginger cake in one of her stories where these twins go off to boarding school and I feel like this recipe is probably what they meant, I'd never heard of ginger cake before that, now I can try and make it

In my country, we don’t find black treacle, so, is it possible to use instead, molasses?

You are teaching an old 76 baker new tricks. Just made cake still in my airfryer oven this is what I do all my oven cooking in, rising beautifully smells delicious. Having to fight the population off. So so quick and easy to make, am really enjoying your recipes and look forward to the pizza. I always make my own base and sauce and now my elder daughter makes her own base so will be looking forward to seeing how you make yours😊😊😊

@@katkat5484 Birds custard powder and milk. Sometimes I add some evap. to make it really creamy, enough for two days, hot and runny first day, chilled from the fridge on the second day. Enjoy

Made it - no black treacle so used golden syrup and doubled up on the ginger (we like it gingery!) and it’s absolutely delicious! Wonderful recipe and so quick and easy to make - thank you Dave ❤

Got this in the oven as we speak lucky we get treacle in new Zealand 😊😊 a really popular desert in nz is golden syrup dumplings my Nana use to make them all the time do you eat these in the UK

Looks amazing ! But can I ask with all that black treacle couldn’t the brown sugar be omitted for people who need to cut out sugar ,

Yes or Blackstrap in the USA.

I have a whole quart of black strap molasses and didn't know what to do with it. I bought it at a little farmer's market in the mountain town of Boone, NC, next to my little town because I had the idea to add it to a fruit cake or Boston baked beans, but I put it in a cupboard and forgot it promptly. Maybe I now have a great recipe to try it in. For some reason molasses scares me to death. lol

Wow Dave i made your ginger cake the other day and served it to friends, they said its the best ginger cake they have ever had 😊 its absolutely gorgeous. Incidentally i found M&S do their own black treacle 680 g in a squeezey bottle for only £1.75 . Alot cheaper than the leading brand in an awkward tin. Loving your videos.

Yes I believe it's called blackstrap molasses in the USA.

I love ginger cake lv never made it with just black treacle always a combination of golden syrup plus treacle...l would definitely try this...lm the only one that likes it so its all mine...and the flavour of ginger cake improves as it's stored..👍
