Thanks for this detailed recipe, but I noticed she didn't add vanilla flavoring to the batter. Was that intentional?

@@newman8180 Gingerbread cake tastes delicious on its own with molasses and all the spices we add. Its perfectly fine to not add vanilla essence. I have tried it.

Had to come back and say thank you so much for this recipe. I had been craving some gingerbread and couldn't find it at any of the supermarkets. I was overwhelmed at the idea of making my own because I'm not a baker. Well needless to say, the craving got so bad I decided to give it a try. I looked at several tutorials on KZbin before settling on your recipe. It appeared to be the easiest straightforward and foolproof instructions to follow. My goodness i3m glad I chose you. It was perfect. 😋 right amount of spice and sweetness. Satisfied my craving a little too well. I ate the whole loaf and now I will never look for it anywhere else. I will forever bake my own. Thank you to you and your grandma for passing this on to you. CHEFS KISS

This is exactly the recipe I have in my recipe box and the one I always use! I don’t know why the cup of hot water but it works. I find it tastes better the next day if you cover it tightly with plastic wrap. It’s hard to wait but it’s worth it!

I've made something like this before too! I can remember adding baking soda to water and then to the sugars. I love to use this recipe as the foundation for other gingerbread cakes -- with plumped raisins and nuts, orange zest and even lemon glaze instead of the whipped cream. One could binge on this if not too careful.

I love this. It is October 26th 2022. Just days before Halloween. And this would be the perfect dessert for this time of year. I love a good gingerbread cake. I like it when it's so moist that it's almost wet. And this looks like it fits the bill perfectly. I will be making this today with a cream cheese frosting.

Just tried this recipe, a disaster I fear. Took twice as long to bake and sickly sweet. Had black treacle instead of molasses so maybe half the sugar would do. And it went over sides of my baking dish, it's alot.
