In this video I am testing toner transfer method using baking (parchment?) paper. Initially I was going to use photo paper, but that did not go as planned... However, the baking paper I have used worked amazingly well - peeled right off from PCB leaving all the toner on the copper. For a VERY quick PCB making at home, this is the way to go. This test made me want to own a laser printer, so I can make lots of small projects for the channel, so watch this space, it's coming soon. Enjoy :)

I like your idea of using Baking paper because the prime function in using baking paper in cooking is that it resists sticking at high temperatures an ideal quality for PCB making. Good luck in your endeavors. MoK

I use a cheap Brother 1110 printer, printing on cheap no name photo paper. Using an old clothes iron I get awesome results.

hi!your pcb method is really worth a try!just did a couple with the usual glossy paper and had to redraw everything with a a pen over it.. also your method of sticking the paper for a second layer is very good! thanks!

Im with you man. Board bouses ding ya hard on small extras. I know people sponsored by pcbway and the have complete ineptitude when it comes to designing these beautiful boards and theyre like oh well, ill just resubmit the gerber. Pcbway boards within a week at the minimum size to east Canada in nova Scotia near the ferry to newfoundland cost over 100usd. I have a bunch of friends sponsored and they wont even hook me up with an extra pcb if i have something similar on the go. Its like gold to them. I used to be friends with that phoney paul at learnelectronics and he is horrible at making anything. I sent him a bunch of leds, 555 and 4017 ics and he made kits and sold them.

Hey there. Thank you for the video. Does it matter wich side of the baking paper is printed?

Excellent video and I think butter paper is better since it doesn't stick to copper surfaces.

For mounting components on non-copper side, they should be on the back side of the board?

What is your PCB thickness? Did you modify the height of the rollers for the PCB thickness 1.6mm?

You can get better results if you set the printer on color, with much saturation (manual setting). Then you will get much more black. And the toner after etching can be better removed with a metal sponge and a little water (with only acetone you will easy get black residue between the tracks witch is very difficult to remove). Then if no black residue anymore is present you can use sandpaper 800 or 1600 (wet sanding just a few seconds) and after drying spray it with plastic spray or lött lack, but the last is sticky and gets a bit dirty easy.

I like the idea of using that bag to do the etching. Where did you get it? Is that made for etching?

I had trouble with brother LP - how did your brother printer go for toner transfer?

I have a question... I've seen more videos about this as I'm new to this and I'm deciding what the best possible way would be. Now your board is a negative board e.g you leave all of the copper and etch away lines that can connect to each other (Hope I explain this correctly) On other video's I see them etching away alle the copper except the lines. is there a reason you're doing it like that? Furthermore I've seen a lot of videos to do research and this is a very hard way of doing it....

There is no particular reason why I did it "backwards" in this case. Sometimes leaving more copper on the board is desirable, say for heat dissipation, but here I was just having fun and doing what I thought I wanted to try at the time.

Hi. Many electronic fans use laser printer setted for max toner filling and iron for thermo transfer of the drawing. And mix of H2O2+HCL+C6H8O7 for circut board etching. Cost price tend to zero.

Yes, still many. But not as many as say maybe 10 years ago. A lot of hobbyist nowadays order boards from china, because it is very cheap and looks professional. I miss those days when everything was done at home. That is the essence of the hobby.

Can buy a solder resist solution. Never used it but some people report good results with it.

True. I have neither used it before, but heard about it. Maybe I will try out one day. For now I think it would just add an extra step to the process and extra cost.

On a baking paper should I use laser printer or even is it ok if we use inkjet printers and can I use the iron box to heat.
@randomtronic
@randomtronic 4 жыл бұрын
It must be a laser printer. Inkjet will not work for transfer. Iron is ok for heating, but it takes some practice to apply the right amount of heat and pressure evenly.
@larrybud
@larrybud 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure you understand what's happening here. A laser printer uses toner which is heated and melted into paper. Then you transfer that to your circuit board. Inkjets use INK.

randomtronic I have a brother also and have great luck because I got toner refills from ink owl. Now it makes great toner transfers to copper boards. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKK2d6uMYt6Cfa8 this is how it works.
