The exception was pokemon which would usually have 150 per season until the next generation came out, and that's excluding the original season. Yugioh was shounen so that one doesn't really count.

I had to look up the rules to verify this- and yeah, it's true. Even in the trading card game version, you still roll the toy and if it misses the opponent is declared the "Victor" of that "Brawl", but you still have cards in your hand you could play. In the standard toy-only version, you win 3 Brawls to win the game. That is- that is something else. And this is coming from someone that plays modern Yu-Gi-Oh!.

Here's a funny story, I was working at a toys r us when Bakugan was the new hot shit, and we had official tournaments at the store, sponsored by the company that makes Bakugan and everything. I was tasked with hosting the tournament and giving out prizes and such, but was also expected to play with the kids some rounds or teach newcomers how to play. In order to do this, I was actually given a specially issued Bakugan of my own. Just the one, I didn't get a case of them like some players had, and it was very simple in the way it unfolded. I remember some Bakugan balls were like masterpiece grade Transformers, they were so complex, mine just kinda split open and had a little monster face. The problem was that I was only issued the ball, it didn't come with a card. They forgot to include it in my little tournament hosting kit which meant I literally could not play since I couldn't deploy it and it had no stats. And I was expected to be the one running the damn event.

Man, I went to a few tournaments at my local toys r us back then, everyone but one person basically decided the whole "just place your bakugan on the card" thing which made it really easy for me to beat everyone since I had a busted card + bakugan combo. But of course I couldn't land my bakugan a single time against the other person so they won our match when we had to roll them. But you shouldn't have needed a card back then to tell you its stats, they were printed on the bakugan. Though I guess an example one might not have had any so that it wouldn't get stolen or something lol.

You had a stamina meeter where you can control your bakugon, and if you got enough speed you could slam an opponent off the card instead of fighting them and doing so counts as an instant ko, makeing each battle about understanding the environment, deciding what to use base on that environment and how you want to face your opponent

1:32 For context: the battle power of a Bakugan was written on the Bakugan itself, was very small to read and you had to basically go out of your way to find it; it doesn't help that different colors and runs of the same Bakugan could have the number in different places from each other despite being anathomically identical. Even worse, the battle power wasn't a fixed value, so it was common for different copies within the same run to possess different values from each other; which is a really cool idea for a collectible toy, until you realize these weren't the kind of toys you find in random packs at €2.99 each but the kind that you buy in plastic packagings that display their content at about €9.99 at least.

Man, this reminded me of my childhood. I still have my lunchbox full of Bakugan over the years and same with the gate cards. I used to play the game with some of my friends during recess. We had our playground rules and we were allowed to run 5 Bakugan since the rounds were so short. I also remember the look on my mom and dad’s faces the first time they saw one of the toys pop on the magnet. My mom also watched the original anime with me since we had it on DVD. My first one was an Aquos Dragonoid, from that point I got a lot and I sometimes played the game with my mom. It was an amazing, yet interesting concept.

Part of it genuinely just had to do with the fact that the real life game mechanics themselves were very simple, unlike something like Yugioh which is surface level easy to play but very intricate under the hood, there wasn't enough substance to make an entire second show off of Iirc, Bakugan's entire rulebook is basically Turn: Set gate card, throw bakugan, if bakugan sticks, it stands, if not, end turn Battle: When two bakugan owned by opposite players stand on same card, reveal gate card, both players use one ability card, higher G power wins, winner keeps the gate card, loser's bakugan can't be used again Victory: Win three gate cards or all three of your opponent's bakugan are unplayable

The bakugan missing the card part reminds me of the actual PS2 game it had,where you could make your opponent miss by sabotaging the route he was moving his bakugan at,which most of the time meant a win in 1v1 since it would be your turn again and all you had to do was get another bakugan where you first threw(and hopefully managed to land) the first one. It was even worse(and funnier) playing with a friend because the AI never tried to sabotage you like you did,but your friend could and WOULD be a little shit trying to make you fall off the stage or run out of stamina before you landed on your card.

It's true. I watched an episode every now and then and had no idea how the game worked at all, people would just do random things and numbers went up and down and it seemed like the main character's Bakugan was evolving into a new form in every episode.

The only battles that had any semblance of strategy to them was Shun's battles, and that one battle with Alice vs. Klauz (However you spell his name). Mostly because Shun's battles work on pure strategy showing off different battle mechanics, and Alice was setup to get beat in a specific way for the sake of disposition. Every other fight just involved Bakugans wailing on each other and throwing out the strongest amount of G-power possible.

Dan and Drago had the thickest plot armor ever. There was literally an episode when Drago was about to be sent to the Doom Dimension by Chan Lee, then his g-power spontaneously increased without Dan even playing a card. He avoided the doom dimension, and he and Dan ultimately won the battle. This show was such bullshit XD.

True but the entire plot of the first season was Masquarade trying to evolve his Bakugan through battle and then Drago eventually matching him. These are meant to be real life monsters so their power level staying the same would actually be weirder.

I loved watching this show at 6am before school. Then my mom bought me a bunch of them. I ended up playing with them like action figures and some broke. Most of them survived my tyranny and I passed them down to my nephews who broke ALL OF THEM😂.

We were super poor when I grew up. Me and my sister each got a bakugan. I took hers against her will shopping. I played with it on the street and broke it accidentally. I feel super bad about that to this day. I think about it often. She probably forgot by now, but I can't for some reason.
