@@WhiskyLoversSociety There is a local store that once or twice a year they have some bottle that is a surprise (for me) related to what’s typically available in my area. The prices are good too. Recently I’ve found Arran 18 for $80. Tamdhu 15 for $90. Balblair 12 for $40. But then they’ll have something like Ancnoc 18 for $140! So it’s a mixed bag with the prices. So I had the Balblair 12 for the first time and I enjoyed it. Can’t beat the price. Nice find. I’d buy it again but if it were to go up to @60 it wouldn’t be worth it for me

@@SaltyCuban nice on the Arran 18. Average here is now £168. Love the Ancnoc.

@@WhiskyLoversSociety I have to add though, that it wasn’t the newer version. It’s the older style. I should have bought two non the less. But at least I got one. Also a few yrs back I found Springbank 12 for $90. Bought two. The other 4 or 6 left were gone the same week. Last year while on vacation I ran into a couple of the 12s again but this time they were $200. I passed. Many would still buy it but I’ve had it and it’s good but would rather spend on a new experience.

Prices are really insane on some of the older Whiskys nowadays, I gravitate more and more towards the younger, more affordable ones. For me it´s just not worth adding 100€ for a few years longer aging, when the taste difference is just nuances. Maybe I´m just not that experienced with older expressions, but as you said, prices are going up monthly and there are really good Whiskys in the lower price ranges.

So true mate. This KZbin channel is costing me a fortune…… 🙈. But it is so much fun to do. It’s great to at least buy some samples. 100 is also my upper limit, but I sometimes cross it when I find something special. Cheers. Appreciate your input

I love the Balblair 15, it's fantastic! I'm not a sherry loving guy but I think they got the balance just right! Their single cask releases are amazing as well. Cheers!

Agree. Definitely not a sherry monster.

I really like this whiskey also. For me I could taste the dried fruits with a small touch of Coffee and ginger. I tasted this on christmas and it was fantastic by the fireplace.

I can find the 12 yr for $40. The 15 is @110 plus. Don’t think I’ll be buying it for an extra 3 yrs. I believe if a distillery is so confident in its products, at least it’s core range. It should make available smaller, more affordable sizes to encourage the customer to take the plunge and buy the full bottle. Where I’m at there’s very little options in the way of bars or clubs or any establishments that offer a wide variety of scotches to sample before you buy. The liquor stores? Forget it. You’re lucky if they ever have any tastings of anything you might recognize. Therefore I opt to buy what I’ve had before or what is a consensus top notch practically guaranteed winner by online critics & comments alike. I’ve very rarely been disappointed .

That is indeed a sad situation. The online store I buy from in Belgium regularly have free tasting sessions in the store. They also have master classes. I cannot afford to keep on buying full bottles just for 1 review anymore. So this is great for me. Almost 400 reviews in less than 2 years. Cheers Salty. Appreciate your input.

Been looking at Edradour Ibisco Sherry, and the Red Cask Company whiskies - both almost blood dried red...then turned to my favorite reviewer with a Balblair! So many to try. But I'm tempted to try a dark blood whisky next!

You peaked my interest on this one. It looks like a sherry monster. Bit expensive at £132. But that color is insane.

Nice video, Gert, with cool editing, and I liked your quite precise notes. I have to admit I still haven't tried none of the new range's Balblair, while I went to the distillery in 2018 (so, prior to the rebranding) & liked the visit a lot...I have 5 Balblair in my collection, all official ones, and 4 nice ones with a vintage, but the nas is impressive. I reviewed some on my website, but only one quickly in video, so I guess I should finish the "letter B" before doing something else (Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, for instance, are still to cover on video too), but will include other letters whiskies overviews in this year too. If I had to answer your question (favorite Balblair) it'll be obviously for me the old official 38 yo, one of the highlights of Whisky Live Paris 2005...not 'just" because it is very old, but because it is "harmoniously complex". On a more affordable (even if I'm afraid now it goes high in secondary market) ground, I'd really advise you if you can to get you the "1991" vintage (27 yo) 2018, 3rd Release, 46 % I awarded No 2 in Whisky of the Year 2018. And Cheers for your 1000 + subs, congrats ! 🥃

@@WhiskyLoversSociety There was a time when it was possible to get some undisclosed distillery ones at indie bottlers territory (I tried for instance some great old Glenfarclas bottled by Douglas Laing) but it seems complicated now price wise...A solution probably imho = blended malts & indie blended whiskies...
