Hair loss is complex, but androgenic alopecia can reliably be halted using finasteride. Side effects are relatively well understood as well as their mechanisms via blockage of 5ar-2 & 3 in higher doses. Dosing standards need to improve, ideally by dropping initial dosage to 0.25mg per day as that exerts around 75% of the effect on 5ar-1 (the enzyme responsible for male pattern balding), at a quarter the dose, with way lower side-effect risk. We know from it's use in prostate cancer treatment that higher dose is associated with greater side effects, but the maximum effect on balding stops at 1mg, and is about 90% strength at 0.5mg. Minoxidil doesn't need to be 100% understood to understand it's function, utility & limitations. We know enough to know who responds and who doesn't, and why; non-responders lack enough enzymes in their scalp to break minoxidil down into it's active form: minoxidil sulfate. If we can devise methods to make minoxidil sulfate stable, even non-responders could benefit from it, and it may even be more effective than normal minoxidil since it's more chemically active. But honestly? The biggest thing that needs to improve is information and accessibility. If people are too scared to even try preventing it, or don't know how to prevent it, they're *going* to go bald and either regret it, or learn to deal with it. Personally I'd love to see some 5ar blocker that *only* targets 5ar-1, so it would have practically zero psychological side-effects, but the likelihood of that is fairly slim since finasteride has been deemed 'good enough'/within acceptable risk.

Sometimes lack of hair is beneficial. I have pretty standard amount of hair of my head, could've grown them longer if I wanted but man, the short buzzcut is simply too good. It basically gives you an ability to not be bothered by drying your hair or going to hairdressers etc. And losses in appearance are pretty insignificant, I, for one, think that it gives you more mature, serious look which is not a bad thing.

Its one thing to find some silver lining or level of acceptance to keep propelling yourself forward in life but we don't need to be delusional about it. Balding still sucks and we definitely do not look better, in my case, with a receded hairline.

Damn that's fucked up. Can't imagine doing baldness speedrun at 17. I'd be chugging that finasteride ngl even tho it's probably bad for you when you're that young. My hairline started to receed when I was 18, but now 9 years later I am still only Norwood 2 technically, it's noticeable that my hair is thining, I think it's called diffuse thining, but It still looks good for now if you style it well. Started taking finasteride recently, like literally two weeks ago, can't speak about any experience with it yet, but one thing is certain is that I don't worry about going bald anymore.

But when the time comes, and I am definitely ready, I will shave my head. Bald is bold, beautiful, and ubiquitous, guys. Legit we never pay mind bald guys when we were young, only when we overfixate on our hairloss, do we panic. But such, life is so much larger than our locks

I'm 19 from Iran and not from a rich family, my hair started receding and falling when I was 18, I'm not yet bald but I think I will be in a year. The thing is that I don't even have enough money to try finestride and minoxidil, I have been using minoxidil for 3 month but the thing is that I'm buying the cheapest version which is literaly 17times cheaper than the recommended by doctors version and I feel like it's even making my hair fall more and it isn't that good for my skin I can see it. I study at a good University in the major I love (we have to do entry exams in my country and good universities are free if u pass the exams) but the problem is that its 3hours away from where I live, so the point is that I can't have a job because I don't have time, I must either keep studying or have a job. So I can't work to have more money for spending it on treatment :). You know the worst thing about the whole thing is that I feel like I have almost zero control on this, I'm balding because of my genetics (I have had a relatively healthy life style since I was 15 I eat good I work out and I don't drink or smoke) and I can't even use treatment. I have shame to ask my parents to help me in this because of, I don't know the stigma of being poor? I don't want to put pressure on them I know it's hard to afford a living in my country and I don't help them because I can't work. The university I go is filled with people who are rich, and they kinda don't struggle with these stuff so they don't really understand me in this situation. You know I just feel alone... Im really alone and I don't have much control over all this. I'm actually in tears right now and I'm a kind of person who doesn't cry that often(it's like tears don't come out of my eyes most times I don't know the reason for that), so yeah I mean I over shared but I kinda needed saying all this I guess. Love for all people I wish if everyone could have a happy life

super respect for someone just getting over the inevitable wall. I'm subscribed because my husband needs these sorts of videos for his own MPB,... Boob jobs don't take the same amount of work as male hairline maitinence, but the cost are similar. My own mum she blew a lot of the money on her chest dad gave her for my sister and I. Nothing makes you hate maintenance heavy plastic surgery; and sorry, hair plugs and hormone treatments are that too; like having the power be shut off in a 6 bedroom manor house at a 13 year old kid. It's a bunch of fuzz you don't need to deal with as a young person.

I was losing hair everyday, a lot and super fast, by the time i was 16 i had the hair of a 40 year old, my friends and almost everybody was making fun of me and i was super insecure, until i started to use minoxidil and finasteride. Right now my hair looks amazing, its not like when i was a kid but is so much better than before when i was 16 or 15. My hairline has a little v shape but thats ok, my hair doesnt fall anymore and i took finasteride daily and had 0 consecuences. So my recomendation is take minoxidil and finasteride, you could literally save your hair. Sorry for bad english

I tried every drug possible including experimental ones. Nothing works with "rapid" hair loss. It can potentially help mild hair loss but if you're experiencing rapid hair loss at an early age, it's just not effective. Then you have to factor in what you're putting into your system for your longterm health. Overall, I strongly advise taking any medical or topical treatments for hair loss. Hair piece, surgery or accepting hair loss are your only 3 realistic options.
