I completely agree with you. Why would anyone lower their expectations when if they pay more for it? Are we all chumps?? The snowball affect is if this industry isn't fixed is that customers will just stop buying.

Dude I use to get paid to do EA games and had friends that worked there. There use to be a time where we could give feedback but no, they’ve even admitted that it all comes down to the investors and what they want. Square Enix? There’s so many people that will fly out and push the game for free that they don’t gaf anymore. Larian has been the best studio that I’ve ever worked with. Not paid. I am so effing proud of them cause honestly they gave us our moneys worth and there’s replay ability on top of that. I’ve got a multiplayer with my dnd group, a solo run, and I’m starting a 2 player run with my best friend. Larian also learned and incorporated mode that people wanted btw which is beautiful.

The amount of designers on the team does matter to some degree. I understand the point you were trying to make (solo devs can make great games too) but just creating and animating such highly detailed 3D models, with the amount of characters in BG3, would take a solo dev literal years - let alone the coding, level design, music, and writing that would have to be done too. The scope of the project matters, that's what the guy was trying to say. 50- or 10- man studios can still make great games - but if they try to make a game as highly detailed and immense as BG3 they might get stuck in development hell, run out of money and public interest, and fail the project before it even gets the chance to try. AAA doesn't have the same excuse.

That’s fair I would never imply that 1 man could make a BG3 but the teams that could make BG3 are making games 1 man could make

the corpos been raising prices on us since the early 2000s when gaming blew up and MLG became a thing. Once it became mainstream the models changed. I remember buying Legend of the Dragoon for $40. For the amount of time spent in that game, $40 is steal compared to what we deal with now. I remember when DLC used to just be extra multiplayer maps and fixes. Then it became what it is today, milking the consumer for more hours in the game AFTER they've beat it several times just so they can get that special ending and that helps the corpos keep their numbers up for 1 game. "over 20 millions hours played 9/10 on ign 'it's a hit'" blah blah blah. Now we at least have something unique happening which is actually quite similar to when musicians began realizing they dont need labels anymore. Yup. Indie devs and smaller studios are now putting out some seriously amazing content and their shine and polish blows a lot of triple A games out the water. The devs that are scared should be. It's nit just them fuckin up. it's their higher ups. Their shareholders and shit. like, they've become more concerned with doing what those out of touch dickheads want than just telling fans we gotta wait 2 more years for the best version they can present upon release. like, if ima sink 200 hours in a game, $60 is worth but the game cant just be some copy paste fuckin CoD game or somethin. Gonna need somethin fresh and some actual attention to detail. at least let the game work right.

@ 3:08 i would also like to add my 2 cents. Although its not a studio, take a look at someone like Mr. Beast... he takes his earnings from one video and invests it into the next...and then the next 2 or 3... which took him to unchartered territory. People respect the investment in their interest, even if they have zero gains from it besides pure entertainment.

But expecting gamers to lower their standards - companies don't need to take accountability for lack of. By providing bare minimum, expectations & development can/has become stale due to lack of competition.

The word Nuclear reminds me of Fox News. Already made me skeptical about this video without even watching. Dont even try to argue about my bias against fox.
