After my 2nd playthrough, and absolutely stomping the game, I am -very- happy not every enemy got theit stats flat increased. Spells like hold person and the like are already hard to hit occasionally, and if tactician was just a flat stat increase, I'd not considered it. More HP is definitely welcomed.

Yes,the HP increase is not bad for upscaling the difficulty challenge.

Something you probably should know is that if you are playing PC, you can mouse over a hidden skill check in the combat log to see the exact DC level. Though I approve of your use of the scientific method for your data gathering. Great work!

Appreciate the effort you put into this dude, I'm considering whether I should go up to Tactician. I've never finished the game, so I wonder if I'm missing out on a more intended experience on Balanced, but I also don't find the game too difficult and I've heard it's not hard as you get more powerful, so I'm willing to make things require a little more thought.

Thanks for watching,DP. You're not missing out much if you switch to Tactician difficulty. If I may suggest,finish it first on balanced then do another run on hard mode.

I just got into ACT 3 and most likely going to goto Tactician. I just found that once you get comfortable with your characters and game mechanics the enemies get very easy to beat. Towards the end of Act 2 I expected more of a challenge with some stronger named enemies but nope...walked all over them. And rarely would lose to much health. As a test I switched to Tactician on a old save. I encountered 3 Mind Flayers under Moonrise Towers. On Balanced beat them easy no sweat. But on Tactician I noticed they were using Charmed a hell of a lot more and actually downed one of crew. They also seemed to move more as well. I did beat them but it was more satisfying.

other differences i've noticed in tactician: -not every enemy can be killed by pushing them into the abyss (auntie ethel comes to mind, but it might be true for phase spider matriarch as well) -some areas will have more enemies (6 animated armors on the top story of the arcane tower as opposed to 4) -some enemies have more damage type resistances and even immunity (you might be able to hurt the scrying eye with enough force damage, but thunder damage [or throwing them into a chasm] continues to be the best way to hurt them, as they no longer take normal weapon damage) -afaik i never had any drawbacks trying to damage the nightdome directly on balanced, but on tactician doing so will make your character take necrotic damage in retaliation

If you play in Tactican mode with combat once in a awhile the combat chat will give you the reason why missed is “tactician mode”

Interesting stats. What I noticed is that I find much more of the following: ingredients (plants), potions, food (camp rations) and I think even magical items!

Why did you measured probability in samples? DnD has completely deterministic math model, any outcome probability can be calculated based on stats and the rule set. Then confirm calculations based on game logs.

Im at the act 2 boss on my first playthrough. I decided to go with tactician not understanding how hard it would really be. I made it through 65hrs without lowering my difficulty. I'm realizing I am likely under leveled for the boss. I don't want to switch difficulties for the boss but I also feel like its sort of cheap to just cheese the boss. Any suggestions?

You can try assigning one of your partymates to focus on removing the charm spell(punch,shove,shadow heart's calm emotion I think also works) on the drows as the spectator unpetrifies them. That way,there will be more of you fighting. It would still be a very tough fight though. If I remember correctly,Gale's Scorching Ray is very effective against it,but in my playthroughs,that boss had a tendency to focus fire on him for some reason. Edit: You can also temporarily skip that fight until you gain another level or get better gear by going through the front gate of that temple.

If it's Myurkel I have the same problem turned out they buffed him in a patch from 220hp to 390hp which is pretty much a lot harder maybe impossible, I will try to cheese the boss because even with the higher HP he can still heal, I saw someone throwing water and spamming lighting on him I will try it.

It's a shame that the AI doesn't get smarter in a mode called, "Tactician". 🙄😒
