Just to clear some things up: Every origin character already has a class. There are some classes that aren't used in the origin characters. There are was to reset your class later. Don't worry to much if you feel like your choice doesn't fit you anymore or you got a thing wrong. It is easy to redo most of your character once you played a bit.

One thing that wasn't explained in this is, when you break your oath as a paladin you become an oathbreaker and you're given dark and evil spells. The cool thing about being an oathbreaker is that it doesn't make you actually evil, as you could have broken your oath while trying to do good, so it can make you more of an antihero. You also get some "Finally, A Worthy Opponent , Our Battle Will Be Legendary." style dialog options as an oathbreaker.

I'm partial for personal reasons, but I'm not sure paladins get the shine they're due, especially the Oath of Ancients paladins. When all your nearby allies are immune to fear, resistant to spell damage, and get your Cha bonus to their saving throws, a party becomes MUCH harder to defeat. Toss in their ability to tank, their use as a secondary healer, and decent damage and interesting options with the Smite spells, and I'm putting a paladin in every party if I'm metagaming.

Keep in mind that you'll find the other origin characters in-game and recruit them as party members. Lae'zel (green lady) is a warrior. Shadowheart (memory-loss girl) is a cleric. Astarion (white-haired vampire guy) is a rogue. Karlach (red horned lady) is a barbarian. Wyll (one-eyed heroic guy) is a warlock. And Gale (arrogant guy in purple) is a wizard. You can change their class, or just leave them in camp lol, but it means that the game provides you with a good barbarian, warrior, cleric, rogue, warlock, and wizard pretty early on.

If you two do decide on playing just wanted you to know that you can always swap in and out the other two party members in your squad of 4 to any other benched party members and choose any class for each, that way you can have a dedicated healer or a dedicated tank.

If you’re willing to install mods, there’s one that lets you remove the party limit. It does make a lot of fights considerably easier though as well as slow down combat a bit The upside is that you don’t have to keep switching out party members whenever you want to progress their character stories, as well as hear more of their banter You can also change the difficulty at any time so if you’re finding things too hard/easy you can fix that to a certain extent

Warlock is my favorite class. Not only is it a class you can use if you want to do both melee and spellcasting, but because it's a Charisma class it's good for talking to NPCs since charisma checks are used during dialogue. You can persuade or threaten characters to avoid fights or gain better rewards, or find out their secrets, plenty of things like that.

Be careful, not all classes have an npc companion that fills the roll in game. For example, there is no bard npc, so if you want a bard in your party then you have to make your character a bard. I think the same goes for paladin.

True, the druid can function as frontline and support. I would get a Rogue and maybe a Barbarian, Fighter, Paladin or Cleric for the permanent frontline to allow some staying power. Depends on how Beth wants to play. If she goes heavy into moon druid like gameplay and runs around as animal and is fine as frontline fighter then pick a cleric for the other frontline spot for some emergency healing. Rogue is more for utility, lockpicking and setting up ambushes and such as well as the skill monkey they are :). My DnD 5e 2cents. I play in my bg3 run a Dark Urge Origin, Rogue Assasin / Ranger Gloom Stalker multiclass. Its fun but difficult at times^^

Any class can do any role. Just depends on how you build the character. Rogue specializes in stealth. But you can be a stealthy fighter, Druid, Wizard, Paladin etc.. (Druids can turn into animals which can stealth pass stuff, wizards can become invisible, paladins dont have to be a tank n can be nimble. Fighters can fight as a last resort xD)

As a long time fan of both D&D and the Baldur's Gate series, it's great to see you guys getting ready to jump in. Couch Co-Op on the PS5 is great, I played a little with my partner! A couple of notes: The Origin Characters you can pick from are already characters you can otherwise recruit for your party (except The Dark Urge, that's a tie in from previous BG games) Most players go with a custom character because it gives you the most flexibility for choosing. Noting that Vox Machina was your go to reference - they are actually a pretty good reference point. Vex is a Ranger and Vax is a Rogue. Keyleth is a prime example of what to expect from a Druid. Pike and S2's Kashaw are different flavours of Cleric. S2's Zahra is a Warlock. Percy is a Fighter, but with a little agreed customisation with Matt the DM. Grog is your typical Barbarian berserker and Scanlan is obviously a Bard.

A video of you making characters gets this upvote! Currently I am taking a halfling Enchanter Wizard through to Act III One thing the Gamespot video lightly explained is how diverse the sub-classes can be. An Enchanter Wizard for example excells at spells that control people (taking them out of combat, forcing them to fight for you) which is different from say an Abdjuration Wizard which has lots of buff spells and protection and the phenomenal counterspel (that if it succeeds prevents a hostile spell being cast.) Both types of wizard can access the same kinds of armour weapons and spell scrolls to copy into their spellbook (my enchanter has both fireball and wall of fire for instance) but I am now at a high enough level that if I cast Hideous Laughter at an enemy I can auto target another enemy 2 for 1. Thats something only my enchanter wizard can do with enchantment spells i.e what subclass you pick will greatly impact your experience of playing as a wizard as much as playing a battle master fighter (has extra types of attack like disarm or riposte) is distinguished from a Eldritch Knight (cast attack/defence spells) or a Life Cleric (bonus to heals) is different from an Oath of The Ancients (nature based magic) while both still being clerics. If you want some help understanding all of that, I highly recommend the channel Fextralife which has breakdowns on all 46 sub-classes and what they are like to play. But don't stress making a mistake, you have the opportunity to meet an NPC early on who for 100gp will let you respect any character so you can't screw it up- just go with what feels right. Have fun you two!

One of the things I love most about this game is how much freedom you have to play how YOU want to! While the Origin characters are generally pre-written to be specific classes and not all classes are represented from the start, you unlock the ability pretty early on to change the classes on any character and custom-build your party. The game's story will continue to treat them as if they're the class they started as, but for gameplay it's all up to you and if you get to know the characters well enough it becomes pretty easy to get a custom party whose classes still fit the personalities of the characters you're using. For example, Shadowheart is a Cleric by default, but in all my playthroughs I've only ever kept her as her base loadout once. I find she operates really well as a Paladin herself, and in fact if you go Oath of the Ancients she may even become a better healer than she ever was as a Trickery domain Cleric. Astarion is the party's canon Rogue, but he's so snarky and flamboyant that he fits beautifully reclassed to be a Bard. I've yet to keep Gale in my party as a staple member while keeping him a Wizard, usually changing him to Sorceror at the earliest opportunity lol. So while out of your four top picks for party composition, only the Warlock is represented among early-game Origin characters (Wyll is canonically a Warlock), you can easily run your dream team with a little fine-tuning once you unlock the ability to do so. You CAN get access to a Druid later on in the story, but it IS a fair bit later on so playing from the start as one is pretty preferable IMO. Personally, Paladin and Bard are easily my two favorite classes, and they're popularly considered to be among the more generally versatile and powerful classes in the game. I once tried multiclassing a character that was both of them, but those two specific classes tend to benefit from being the "primary" with most of your level investment into one or the other...neither aspect really reached their full potential when I tried to balance both. And please don't be too self-conscious or hesitant to take your time in character creation. I've seen people take up to 2 hours sometimes getting it all fine-tuned to be exactly what they envision for themselves before they ever take a step in the actual game environment. Designing your identity for the lengthy and epic experience that is BG3 is half the fun! :D

Different classes and stats offer unique or stronger bonuses when in conversations. Persuading, intimidating, lying, and survival checks all correlate to different stats, classes, alignments, and previous choices depending on the situation. The class you chose is great, especially Warlock and Druid, but its helpful to know both Bards and Warlocks use charisma as their main stat, which means Ken would probably have the best advantage in dialogue and the bard can back him up with bardic inspiration. However, you can swap the bard out for a fighter since none of the main characters are a bard.

Warlocks are really good, especially in BG3. They get only to spell slots until higher levels, however, those spell slots recover after a short rest whereas every other spell caster has to long rest to get their slots back. Their spell also, are always cast at the maximum power their level allows. And then there’s Eldritch blast. A cantrip you can use any time, scale’s ridiculous to fire multiple shots at higher levels, and is customizable. You can make it deal more damage and send enemies flying with the right Eldritch Invocations. Plus not many things resist Force damage, so you can literally bombard walls and doors until they break down if they are breakable. I’m obsessed with Warlocks.

I say this to everyone but a good aligned Dark Urge character is something that I always Urge (eyyy) people to play as it is SUCH a good character story. It also helps that Dark Urge is essentially a custom character that you can customize and name however you want. (Although when it comes to customization the Dragonborn’s really knock it out of the park) Now that I’ve gushed I’d also like to say that a warlock can talk to animals just as easily as a Druid can, if only to let you know that you have many options with how you’d like to create your characters, such as the fighter having the eldritch knight subclass and being able learn some of the wizards spells if you want physical fighting and spells but don’t quite jive with the paladin, although there are plenty of reasons to play paladin

When you make your two characters, the other two in the party are story npcs you recruit (generally, you COULD make two more custom characters, but you'd miss out on story). There are 2 druid characters you can recruit through the story, so if you went Warlock and Bard, bard being a class you won't find as a recruit, then you'd be able to have story characters who give your team a Druid and the fourth can be Rogue/Cleric/fighter/whatever other class/character you want in the party.

I will admit, the amount of detail and complexity in this game is kind of crazy. I have never played a game like this before, or DND, but I was able to get the hang of it after a bit. you really just gotta take your time, and read, but you do not need to memorize everything, the inventory search is amazing! the story is top notch and completely evolves around your choices. not just the outcome, but every story beat will change depending on what you do. it actually is astonishing what they have done here, and it has certainly raised the bar for RPGs much to the dismay of other developers to the point where other developers are complaining that it should not be the new standard but its because the cookie cutter climb up a tower, unlock map area, do fetch quest, kill target, move on play style that has become the RPG standard just cant compete. easily the best game I have played in many years, makes me upset that this developer with the fraction of the budget other AAA titles get, blew everything else out of the water. the golden era of gaming has long been over, but this game is certainly gold regardless imo. really reminds me of Starwars knights of the old republic, which if you ever wanted to play some retro games (not super retro, OG xbox era) are amazing games to play, sadly there are only 2 of them.

Ill make it easy for you - it IS multiplayer. You want a Custom character, NOT an origin character (you get ALL origin characters in the Custom Character Campaign and get to play with your own as well - its just superior in EVERY way to make your custom character - the devs have even said, start with a custom character, THEN move on to Origins if you want some MINOR additional flavor on 1 particular character). Creating your character is a 1 hour long enjoyable process - that's part of the fun of these games (you can be done in 1 min if you skip everything), and you can Respec in the game so you change everything about your character (class/appearance) middle of the game anytime, you just cant change your race (elf/dwarf/etc) so just pick a race you like and you can keep customizing endlessly anytime in game. But watch a comprehensive guide to all classes mainly because taking an hour to pick 1 that sings to you saves you 300 hours of frustration and gives you 300 hours of enjoying what you love. If you want short vids, try fextralife - they are respected and coherent and well respected.

Heres an easy explanation for classes. Barbarians - " hulk smash " think of a hulk , drax they smash stuff with hands and weapons. Their thing is they are buff and intimidating. Bard - "dance off me and you" think starlord from guardians of the galaxy or any charismatic character. They are support and are able to almost talk or romance their way out of anything while also knowing about alot of things. Cleric - "i find your lack of faith distrubing" they all vary a bit. They are heavily religious to their domain/ideal. They are tanky support with the ability to change quite a bit. Knowledge cleric - skill character you want to skill the game this is it. Think professor x less psychic more knowledge Life - healer wolverine without the claws but can heal others. Light - blaster human torch but outward blasts. Nature - being druid like think captian planet its almost a druid but more beefy they are more about being fanatic wildlife conservationalists. Nature clerics are less likely to let the animals and nature help but they still can. Nature clerics don't feel a connection to the animals and nature they feel more like they need help rather than thinking nature will help them. They keep the world from impeding on nature. Tempest - blaster tank that focuses on thunder/lightning think thor Trickery - sneaky tricky shenanigans think loki War - wants to use a weapon think Darth Vader. Druid - "i speak for the trees" you are going to be all about using the power of nature and animals. Think the lorax/ Smokey the Bear/ poison Ivy / disney princesses (think about how nearly all of them talk with animals in a special way). Druids care about nature are more likely to get help from animals, live among them, control weather and plants. They use nature to save the world. Fighter - " I can do this all day" Skilled combatant or strategist typically relying on armor and weapon proficiency to defeat their enemies. Think Captain America, Mulan. They are durable and their consistency is really good. Monk - "kung fu fighting" think anime characters. Shadow is a naruto character, open hand is kenshiro from fist of the north star, 4 elements is avatar benders. They are martial arts characters with a couple of other powers. If you want an anime character monks are it. Paladin - "I am ironman" strict adherence to principles. Think of his energy blasts and other things his suit does as divine magic. Heavily armored with some special powers Ranger - "you're not wrong calling youself one of the worlds greatest archers" think hawkeye. Survivalist. They are typically thought of as archers but they can be melee. Rogue - "wherever we want to go we go." Think jack sparrow. They kind of do what they want are really shady and stealthy and hope peope aren't too mad at them for doing shady things. Sorcerer - "you made your kids with magic." "Thats what every mother does." Think scarlet witch they break the rules of magic Warlock - "I'm the only one who can walk in both worlds " think ghost rider they all have otherworldly patrons. Making a contract with a supernatural eldritch being for superpowers to fight. Wizard - "for in dreams we enter a world that is entirely our own" think dumbledore, Merlin. Characters that through intense study have the most magic a character can have and do.

Vicious Mockery is such a fun thing! They recorded so many little insults for that one cantrip it’s insane. And the damage it does goes up slightly the higher level you are. Def one of the reasons why I wanted to be a bard the first time 😂 Also, don’t feel bad if you take a long time creating characters. Most people I’ve watched stream the game have spent a good 1-3 hours on character creation ALONE. Just enjoy the ride, I think you guys would love the game!

Not only are there a lot of lines but the origin characters voice actors also recorded those lines in case you want to switch their class or multiclass with them. I was a Rogue my first playthrough so I made Astarion a bard. I will also second the opinion that a character creation episode in itself is enjoyable and they do well. Its one of the exciting parts of watching someones playthrough.

Do what i did with my brother (in our multiplayer game), make your 1 custom character and when you get your party together, split your favorite origin characters between yourselves to customize as you wish (like picking players for your team) and then you dont have to worry about what the other person is doing. Honestly, with good strategy and tactics, you can solo the game with 1 character and no party, the game is designed to be fun and you will be overpowered. It's the dialogue choices that will be more of a challenge than the fights - which is cool!

I played a bard first playthrough and it is, by far, my favorite! I love the roleplay aspect of the game and lying/persuading my way out of situations, plus you get a lot of fun class-based dialogue options. (You can also play your instrument for gold, though that's mostly just a fun aside). Idk if y'all have played yet, but when you do, I'd create characters based on what you think will be fun to play and then let the rest of the party work itself out! There will be characters you might vibe with and characters you might not, and at the end of the day, you having fun is the most important part. This isn't a game where you have to skill blast your way through it - there's so many ways to solve things creatively. (I kept the same party pretty much all through and really enjoyed it, and it definitely wasn't optimized)

The guide really didnt do much much to cover how the subclasses really change up the base assumption of the class. Clerics can become a tank or lighting caster and more, Druids have their own necromancer-like subclass, stealth rangers, warlocks can choose Fae patrons, Wizards... oh boy... thats an entire paragraph, Sorcerers can go wild magic for random positive/negative effects but barbarians can go wild magic too! Thats without getting into hybridizing your character by mixing and matching classes, which will just confuse you at this point until you get a good understanding of the game and systems. Basically certain classes benefit from dipping into other classes (even more than 1), sometimes for initial benefits, sometimes deeper for multiple subclasses, others just synergize well together.

you know you dont need a balanced party. You can just make 4 druids if you want and be just fine, the game isnt hard, just plain fun. In my personal playthrough (solo) i chose a Ranger (Gloomstalker), Sorcerer (Storm NOT wildmagic), Warlock (Chain Pact), and Cleric (Life Domain) but i swapped the Cleric out constantly for Monk and Druid when I felt like it. You get all classes, you can only go out with 4, so you tend to rotate ppl around in your party (origin characters) to get all their stories & playstyles - so dont worry about making a balanced party - just get the classes YOU want to play as for fun and do that for both of you.

Paladins are my favourite class. What I find quite unique and very enjoyable about them is how much damage they can do when the dice rolls are in your favour. Paladins are very much a tank in more ways than one. Yes, they can absorb damage if you spec them that way, but you can also turn around and hit an opponent so hard in just your turn that you can easily make the enemy drop 3/4 of it's health just through the Paladins specialty, Smiting. They're a dream to use once you know how to use them.

The key to character creation is take your time. Spending an hour or 2 in character creation isn't usually for your first time. Also the game allows you to respec for just 100g which isn't much especially if your a loot goblin. (Even without stealing.) A druid & Warlock would make for a good starting duo. Healing in this game isn't a big deal. Low level healing spells are typically an inefficient use of your spell slots. Short rests and healing potions can do most of the healing. The game also gives you more food then you will ever need for taking long rests almost after every battle. Healing word is a great healing spell however. It can be used as a bonus action which is a plus. It has a range so unlike cure wounds you can heal from a distance. It's best used for when an ally is unconscious and fighting for their lives. A quick healing word as a bonus action and you have saved their lives and you still get an action to use against the enemy. Also any 4 classes can work. There are a few famous video where 4 friends are playing 4 halfling barbarians wreaking havoc everywhere they go. There are almost always several ways to solve a problem in BG3. Can't pick a lock? Bash the door down. Even failing skill checks in dialogue can be fun. You may not get what you want at the time of the failure but often times what happens after can be more fun and unexpected, or even tragic and horrible which can also make for a memorable experience.

FYI this comment is long, but don't worry, I promise it's spoiler-free. Keep in mind you will be controlling all 4 characters in your party, or if the two of you play co-op then you'll have your own character plus one party member that you each control. So you really get to play 2 classes at any given time. You can also switch up your party whenever you want of course. With that in mind, here's what I'd recommend based on having watched this & your other video reacting to the origin characters: Ken's avatar: Custom Paladin, possibly a dark urge if that still appeals to you. Note that you will be forced to do some gnarly things as a dark urge but you can skew towards being overall good. Paladin because you get to do a combination of melee and spellcasting. If you want to really nerd out you can multiclass into "lockadin" making you into a death knight-type character and one of the strongest combinations in the game. Remember dark urge is completely customizable just like a custom character, but you have this set backstory of being The Dark Urge. (And the implications of that, as you'll find out, are fascinating.) Additional Party member 1: Wyll - because warlock appealed to Ken and you need some ranged firepower in this party. Bethany's avatar: Custom Bard. I say this because bards can learn the speak to animals spell. Druids are also a very cool/fun class, but unfortunately none of the party members you get are bards (unless you respec them) whereas there are actually 2 druid party members you can choose from. So if you want a bard in your party, it makes the most sense if it's one of the player characters. If Bethany plays bard she gets to use vicious mockery, can talk to animals, and can also be a very versatile all-rounder with lots of other handy skills like healing and lockpicking. They also get access to lots of other fun spells you haven't heard about yet. Can play as primarily ranged or melee. Additional party member 2: You'd be fine with anyone, but Karlach will fit into this lineup just fine. More importantly, she immediately appealed to both of you (good instincts!) and her story also intersects with Wyll's story, so having them together in the party would be a great mix. Last thing: Don't fret about all the details like race, background, etc. These do come with strengths and weaknesses that make a difference, but the most important thing is to just make characters you really connect with. Go with vibes the first time around and then if you do a later playthrough you'll know "ok I want to target this or that ability." It will be overwhelming if you try to min/max everything on your first characters and you really don't need to. Have fun!

If you are looking for tips on what class to pick, you will want 1x frontliner such as a barb, fighter, or paladin. Second you will want 1x healer such as a cleric or druid. You don’t need to pick these classes as you can pick up NPC characters that can fill these roles. Rogues for lock picking and pick pocketing is useful for support but Astarion can fill this role. I would say pick what you want and take NPC characters in your party to fill the frontliner and healer roles if you don’t choose them.

You can also multicluss in this game (there are maximum 12 levels and instead of progressing in your class you can choose 1 level of different class and sometimes it is more benefitted). For example there are effective multiclasses: 1) paladin + warlock place of blade(need not high strength and dexterity - only charisma to deal max damage) 2) rogue + ranger gloom stalker (stealth killer) 3) tempest cleric + storm sorcerer (max lightning damage) 4) bard of swords + rogue (max skills and increased damage) 5) sorcerer + warlock (dialogue master + max cantrip damage) And there is more variety of choices due to a lot of unique equipment in this game).

As a thief player, I can say that the author hid one simple fact. The thief in this version of DND is the most roleplaying-oriented class. And that’s how he remains in this game. So if you play as a thief, you will always be somewhere behind all your teammates. It is worth taking only for a multi-class for an additional action or for the killer perk. Otherwise, the thief will lose to everyone.

I made myself a Tiefling (race) Cleric (class) in the Nature domain who has a charlatan background for my first playthrough! Although I love healing, I did it to be ironic, because the species of tiefling I chose is the one with fire resistance and an ability to cast fire on those who attack me first as a reaction. The idea of a hellspawn teifling being able to heal and loving nature was funny to me! I just had no idea how useful the Speak with Animals default is! I feel like the game would be half as fun if I was unable to communicate with the rats right off the bat. (and for all my fellow BG3 players, I found a ring that gives the wearer the ability to heal (cure wounds and the multi heal) and I gave it to Astarion to be funny. My Astarion also can cast magic misstle and has not one, but TWO scorching rays spell slots. I like doing funny things with my characters)

When the paladin breaks their oath, they can become the fourth subclass, the Oathbreaker! It's really interesting that your oath has tenets that you must follow and can definitely break, my first playthrough was as an Oath of Ancients paladin, probably the most "good" of the oaths. Also, this video made monk sound boring, you can totally use your martial arts to cast fireballs and stuff. It's a lot cooler than it sounds here. Oath of Ancients can also learn Speak with Animals! It's a spell that a few different classes can get access to.

So, one of the biggest benefits of BG3 is if you don't like your class, once a certain being is in your party, you can change it at any time (for 100 GP). So if you're unsure, or are going through and thinking "man, this wasn't as fun as I thought it would be" feel free to switch it up! Also, for your first playthrough, I'd suggest not multiclassing unless you find a guide online because it can be very tricky.

I love playing bards a lot. They’re incredibly fun and if you go full throttle on upping your charisma and prioritising the charisma skills like persuasion, intimidation and deception, you’ll be able to pass almost every skill check for them (not even halfway through act 1 on my second playthrough, and I have +10-12 on all charisma skill checks. Fair warning, vicious mockery becomes very unfortunately poor in late game. There is just so many better spells and vicious mockery can waste your turn if the enemy saves. But if you want that humour, I suggest going for college of lore bard. You unlock ‘cutting words’ where you can make an enemy reroll a successful throw and you insult them as if it was vicious mockery while doing it. So you’ll get way more usage and the fun moments of vicious mockery as well. And you also will get access to very powerful spells that typically you shouldn’t be able to learn thanks to being in the college of lore. But if you want to be more martial? Go ahead and pick college of swords. Bards are overall charming, persuasive and versatile. You will likely have nothing you’re bad at, just good or great or fantastic. I can tell you right now, Rogues can be crazy OP if you know how to place your characters. Hold shift or whatever button you press to reveal lines of sight then position yourself and just slam hide and sneak attack ranged. Or better yet just get high ground and spam sneak attack. Keep in mind you will come across playable companion characters who already fill certain rolls, there is a warlock, wizard, fighter, barbarian, cleric and rogue and depending on choices you can meet other characters who fill other roles. Most of these characters are all romanceable also, with special side quests. Also feel completely free to experiment as relatively early on in the game you will be able to unlock a way to recreate your entire characters class and levelling into something entirely different (for 100 gold, but you can actually just pickpocket the gold back with no problem). So feel free to experiment with anything and everything

Cantrips are spells you can cast an infinite number of times, but aren't as good as full blown spells. Warlock gets 2 spell slots that are always max level, which isn't alot, but their cantrip eldritch blast is very good and upgradable/customizable. Other spellcasters get way more spell slots, but the cantrips and non-spell combat is much *much* worse for them.

Building a character can be one f the most complex parts of the game. Personally I went with a Half-orc Fighter and at higher level picked up the Battlemaster subclass. Being a half orc makes me hard to kill and the Battlemaster subclass lets me control the battlefield...at least in melee range. Subclass you'll pick up about level...3 I think it was. And each class has at least 3, a few of them have more than that. Multiclassing is...tricky. Usually I only recommend that if you want to add a bit more to your class. Like Rogue/Sorcerer for added spells. Its not necessary, but can be used to expand. The base class though is a solid go-to. The origin characters are already set what class they are, and you'll meet them in game if you don't choose them as your character. Except the Dark one, that one isn't in the game. Just a custom story character.

Druids are great, that was my first pick as well. Though every class can speak with animals using a potion that you get pretty early on in the game, or by simply learning the spell with a character that can cast spells. So don't be afraid to choose another class if the ability to speak with animals was your main reason for picking druid. Keep in mind that you can only create one custom character. Though you can multiclass your character as you level up. So in a way you can be both druid and bard or any other combination. If you want you can even multiclass into every single class (though this does not make for a very good character, but it is an option). If multiclassing sounds like something you want to try out, I suggest watching a tutorial on that first to get an idea of how it works and what the ups and downs are. You can also multiclass your companions (the origin characters, amongst others), but the classes they start out with are already pre-determined.

You can indeed spend a lot of time creating yoru character in this game, I spent more than 1 hour myself. You have to create the appearance of your character which is in itself pretty deep, chose your stats, your class, sub class but also your cantrips (free spells basically). There is just so much.
