I'm happy that it helped! Multiclassing in Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 works quite a bit differently than in other D&D based games but it's a neat option for playthroughs and for companions.

That sounds like an awesome combo! Totally worth it from the sound of it. That increased Strength is perfect for a Barb who also hits hard with backstabs. I feel like that should be a combo for Half-Orcs exclusively, rather than being a Fighter/Thief that they could be a Barbarian/Thief, but the designers might have thought that to be a bit too much. Regardless, it sounds like a good time!

ANOTHER difference between dual-classing & multi-classing is; Dual-classing gets the FULL amount of hit points rolled while Multi-classing has to DIVIDE the hit points rolled by the number of classes it has! (rounded down) This means dual classing characters "tend" to have higher hit points or at least, a higher hit point maximum. Whereas multi-classing characters tend to veer more severely towards the "median" (or slightly less) hit points for their class(es). Making multiclassed characters more "squishy" than others, but more versatile. (I know you touched on this a bit, I just wanted to point it out as more of a "difference" between dual & multi.)

Very true, making Fighter Dual-Class characters fantastic characters! Multi-classing can be fun, especially if players don't like being humans, but you're absolutely right regarding the HP division.

@@Redjoy123It's particularly noticeable when you TRIPLE class! (even if you lower the game difficulty to get Maximum HP for each level?) But the trade off is that you can do damn near EVERYTHING.

Btw HP table is half of each respective class per level. A 3F/2M should have (3d10+2d4)/2 + con bonus as their HP for example

Yeah, that's a big downside to multi-classing. Sure, you get a bunch of the abilities of all classes right away, but if you Dual-Class from a Fighter, then you get a ton more HP. While HP isn't everything, it's pretty important in the early game.

I find fighter mages to be best in bg1 and sod but really fall off come SOA and ToB compared to their dual or single class mage counter parts. It takes a very long time before you get level 9 spells and mage HLAs as a fighter/mage. I’d also argue that fighter HLAs are pretty much useless since you cannot use a fighter HLA and cast a spell in the same round and spells are better than fighter HLAs I think there’s more of argument for the benefits of fighter HLAs with a cleric/fighter and fighter/thief. Since you can stack hardiness with armor of the faith or crit strike with righteous magic so you land every attack at max damage in a round.

I can see that. I think it depends on how you want to play. I would think that folks would like Fighter-Mages Multiclasses when they get the nice defensive spells to charge into combat but I think that you have a good point in that Level 9 Spells come so late for multi-class mages that it's tough to play throughout the game. Absolutely agree with you on the Fighter HLAs except for Hardiness and the Strikes (which have their uses). I mean... War Cry? Really?

@@Redjoy123 Even then you’re almost always better off casting a spell. If you could cast spells and use HLAs in the same round then I could see them being useful. It’s ultimately what makes dualed fighter mages stronger than fighter/mage in bg2 and tob. In bg1 and sod they don’t yet fall too far behind in mage levels
