I’m just a random dude who was trying to learn a dance for a Grease audition and came across this, but I wanted to complement your effort. Production quality is amazing. You are a very talented and beautiful teacher.

Thank you so much for explaining the pliés! As I’m an adult beginner in a group of intermediates (one lady even was a dance teacher herself!), I haven’t had the courage to ask our (wonderful and sweet!) teacher these fundamentals. This really helps, thank you. I really like your clothing style too, it’s so beautiful and elegant and different than ‘standard’

So glad you found us! Yes, plié is fundamental to every other ballet movement so it’s really important to understand how to do it properly. It’s so wonderful you’re doing ballet!! Thanks for sharing your story & for watching! 🙏🌷🩰

If a teacher sees that their students don’t have the fundamentals in an intermediate class and doesn’t address the issue, that is not a teacher. They are stealing your money.
@alicekoningh

@@emhu2594 I agree; but in my case I’m learning the basics now step by step. It would’ve been way too much to teach me ALL the basics at once. So now every week I learn new stuff, I write it down when I’m at home and practice what my teacher has told me. I’m improving every week, it’s so good to feel that my body is starting to memorize the repeated moves. Baby steps

I'm a former ballet student (it was many, MANY moons ago!) who has been admitted to the hospital for the next month and half. I'm currently unable to bend over, but thanks to my former ballet training I'm able to reach anything that drops by doing a plié! Silly, I know, but it's extremely helpful considering my current situation. I watched your video to ensure I'm still doing them correctly and not in a way where I can possibly harm myself, and your video was clear, concise, & extremely informative! Thank you so very much for taking the time to record & upload this! I greatly appreciate it!!! ETA: spelling/grammar

The way the arm movement was done, is it backwards when doing grand plie vs demi plie? Would love a separate video on how to move the arms when doing specific plies or leg movements.

I was trying so, so hard to keep my core engaged and my tailbone tucked in the whole time but I mostly felt it in my knees? I couldn't feel like I could go down very far on a grand plie without my tailbone sticking out - thank you for the lesson, I'll keep working on it!!
@everydayballet
@everydayballet 3 жыл бұрын
Just do Demi-plié for now (with heels on the ground). When you are able to maintain your core and posture and feel the backs of your legs supporting your position, then you can do a small grand-plié-but only go as deep as you can maintain your alignment without your pelvis tipping back or ticking forward. Doing grand-plié requires tremendous strength and good alignment to prevent stressing the knees. Luckily, we don’t really need to do grand-plié except as a strengthening/training exercise so a good demi-plié will do until you get stronger. Hope this helps! 💕🩰😊

I'm curious whether having the toes opened to 180° is too wide. Should they stay just short of 180° as you had them in the video?
@everydayballet
@everydayballet 2 жыл бұрын
You should never force the feet open to 180 degrees. Most people cannot turn out this far without twisting in the ankles & knees. Your “natural turnout” is plenty! With time the degree of rotation in the hips may increase, allowing the feet to open a bit more. The rotation comes from the hips (not the feet). Please se my video on How to Turn Out Correctly: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmbWk6yAr8qNoc0 Hope this helps! Thanks for your question! 🙏😊🩰🌸

can you tell me where to buy that portable barre in this video?
@everydayballet
@everydayballet 9 ай бұрын
It’s a step stool! It’s not as stable as a barre, countertop, or back of a chair because it’s lighter than those, but it works pretty well! You’ll just want to find one with a tall enough handle. Hope this helps! 🙏🥰🩰

My booty is truly in pain right now. Is that a good thing or am I doing something wrong ? 🥴 By the way I really appreciate all the free content you offer :)
@everydayballet
@everydayballet 3 жыл бұрын
Are you in sharp pain from doing plié? Please explain when you feel this pain, and I will try to help with that. You may be sore after doing ballet because you are using smaller/different muscles that don’t get as much attention with other exercise movements. Being sore is normal, but “pain” is not a good thing, so I’d like to better understand what you mean.
@alicew4986
@alicew4986 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for responding I think I am just sore but I wanted to make sure I was using the right muscles. I don’t want to learn the movements wrong and during the plié my booty does most of the work and I didn’t know if that’s how it is supposed to be ?
@everydayballet
@everydayballet 3 жыл бұрын
Ok-that helps me understand! So it sounds like you may be tucking or otherwise clenching your glutes. In that case, make sure your pelvis is not tipping or tucking on the way down. Hug in your core and only go down to the point where you can still maintain your posture with the knees bending out over the toes. Your glutes will definitely work, but a proper plié will engage the core and backs of the legs to support that beautiful posture! You may be sore in a lot of places as you get stronger. As long as the soreness is not sharp pain, I wouldn’t worry too much. Hope this helps! 😊🩰

I have problems coming back up from a grand plié because I am new to ballet and couldn’t build up any muscle yet, which muscle should I train in particular ? Please help it’s so frustrating bc all the other woman in my ballet class can do it :(
@everydayballet
@everydayballet Жыл бұрын
It sounds like this situation requires a little patience (I know that’s probably not what you wanted to hear.) Instead of doing grand plié, for the moment stick with demi-plié. When recovering from every demi-plié, actively feel like you are pushing the floor away through your legs. This will build the power you need to be able to eventually do grand plié. And try not to compare your progress with anyone else’s. Ballet is your very own journey! Hope this helps! 💕✨🩰

the inside of my ankles hurt.. is that normal or am i not doing it right?
@everydayballet
@everydayballet 3 жыл бұрын
Hi--sorry for the late reply. I actually replied several times, but for whatever reason it would never post! To answer your question... You are likely over-rotating your feet in turnout. This causes the front of the ankle to roll forward which can be a source of discomfort. Lesson your turnout and make sure that when you bend the knees they are directly over the toes. This will ensure that your ankles are not rolling and should lessen or eliminate your discomfort. Hope this helps!
