​@@MissBee547 true they compete for the same bugs and fish, but at least personally, if someone is on my island, I don't feel any sense of "ownership" or jealousy if they catch a cool bug or fish. Those respawn just back walking back and forth and more than likely, they're catching something I've already caught. On the other hand, if someone came to my island and got a recipe or item that I don't have - which is a strong possibility given the amount of items and recipes in the game - I'm sure I'd feel a little resentful on some level.

I recently found a gold balloon which dropped the recipe for the gold slingshot. I'm not sure if gold balloons are a recurring thing or they just drop the recipe for the slingshot and that's it.

I think that's always the 301st balloon which is how you get the golden slingshot recipe.

When you shoot down 300 balloons, which is the final nook miles achievement for balloons, you will get a golden balloon that contains the golden slingshot recipe. There will only be that one (it has been a thing in animal crossing for awhile)

Hey Zion! Idk if you'll see this, but there's actually a trick to make the balloons spawn EVERY five minutes You know how you say balloons spawn at times ending in 4 or 9? Well if you go into Nooks Cranny just before that, "attempt" to purchase an item (you can just back out of the dialogue) and then exit the store BEFORE that time ending in 4 or 9 (i.e. enter at 3:53 and leave BEFORE the clock hits 3:54), a balloon will spawn EVERY five minutes if you do this correctly! Great way to farm balloons if you want to do more research! Still time consuming, but probably less so that just waiting every time. Hope this helps some people!

I love this, I just tried it and got three balloons in a row so far, every five minutes on the 9's and 4's just like the video said. The first was red with furniture I didn't have yet, the second was yellow with 5000 bells, and in answer to the speculation at the end the third was a green one with furniture I definitely already have in my house. I know that's just one piece of anecdotal evidence, but there it is for anyone who cares. On the fourth and fifth five-minute increments either it didn't spawn or I missed it. But still, this is awesome!

I noticed that when I was using bamboo, planting bamboo, chopping bamboo or crafting with bamboo I got a lot of bamboo recipes from different balloons. I think I got one in red and blue... but maybe it was green too?

To add to what Nintendo Life found, in my experience it seems Green balloons lean more towards clothes, but also seem to favor new and seasonal items higher (thus seemed to have had the best chance of dropping new bamboo and cherry-blossom related recipes in the previous week, in fact, it almost only dropped DIY recipes for me in early April as a result - clothing being its more common drop is based on my numbers from late Mars and post-bunnyday data); while red balloons seem to lean more towards furniture, and also seems to favor more expensive and rare items. With that said, like everyone else data on green and red balloons have been limited for me so some numbers may just be coincidental.

2:11 I would assume that if you're correct and the balloon spawning is based on what time the Switch is set to, I'd assume that it disabling balloon spawns while the gates are open would simply boil down to multiple people being on the same island while their time is slightly off from each other could cause problems in the coding. Sure, you COULD just use the time set on the Switch of the host's island, but it would be more difficult for the Visitor's Switch to register. If there isn't code about deferring to another Switch's set time, it could cause some major glitches to allow balloons to spawn while multiple people are on the same island.

I will add on information on to this, It is possible to get DIY recipes from blue balloons. However I only got DIY recipes from them on April 10th, the last day of the Sakura day event. Ive been playing before and after and they have yet to drop DIYs. So I think there is a rate up chance or something that all balloons have seasonal recipes that you do not have yet on the last day.

Balloon presents are like message bottles, probably sent from other islands (an island like the nook miles ticket islands, one where no players are on it) to randomly give gifts to other islands.

I feel like the balloons sometimes push you which way to go with furniture for your home and island. When I first started I got so much of the ‘cute’ furniture collection and then I started to do my kitchen in more of a diner theme and happened to keep getting diner furniture, whether this is coincidence or not I do not know.

I first found out about getting resources from balloons when I had to make furniture for the 3 houses where new villagers were moving in and I needed some clay, then a balloon dropped me 5 clay which gave me enough to get the rest of the furniture done

One of my islanders told me that the balloons are gifts sent by a giant who lives on a secluded island. Probably not the true lore behind the balloons but it was such an interesting thing for one of the characters to say since i can't recall if there was ever a origin story for them in previous games.

I had a gold ore come from a balloon I think it was a yellow one? Cold be remembering wrong I was too busy being excited as I needed it for the Aries diy recipe I do I swear get more yellow balloons at night though and more blue and greens during the day

Interestingly after watching this I got a green balloon this afternoon that dropped a wasp model head that I'd already gotten a couple days ago. So no guarantees that green drops only new to you items.

Balloons I believe have been even since gamecube version but in gamecube instead of using a slingshot balloons got stuck in trees and you had to shake them down, but I like the information, I'll try to get more balloons more often.

The balloons do spawn when your gates are open, just not when you have visitors. I leave my gates open most of the day, and I still get balloons all the time.
