Russia truly is a sadistic country. Studying many conflicts since WWII, I don't think we have seen such an example of a 'modern' military with so little Force Protection (FP) doctrine. It almost as if it doesn't exist within the Russian military. Fascinating war in terms of showing us so much about Russia and their war fighting capability.

This is from an article in the National Defense Industrial Association magazine I am a member of the association My Grandfather was one of the founding members after WW I. The Precarious State of U.S. Defense Stockpiles (UPDATED) 11/18/2022 By Chris Laudati "According to the Defense Department, in the six months from March to September, the United States supplied Ukraine with more than 800,000 155mm artillery rounds. From Sept. 28 to Oct. 28, it donated another 100,000 rounds. The September production capacity, meanwhile, was only 14,400 rounds per month. While the exact number of 155mm artillery rounds the United States possesses is unknown, this gap between utilization and production will significantly deplete its reserves over time." My comment. From day one of the invasion the US has had plans behind the scenes to boost production. Total stockpiles are never published. When I was active in the Army reserves, we were shooting 50 caliber ammo made in 1943. One summer the active-duty force shipped 27 semi-trailer loads of ammo to a National Guard base for just annual training most of it the oldest ammo in the system.
@RitaLimWilby

Yes, the US is making use of the opportunity to deplete old ammo, as it probably costs less to ship it away than to explode and dispose locally.

Not fact, it's just an assertion. Anyway the pipeline is owned by the Russian company Gazprom. So it was an attack on Russian property. Jeez Dom the Geppard doesnt lob a load of lead into the air. it sends a five round burst to identified targets, then interrogates the target and then repeats, usually dealing with the target with 2 - 3 bursts ie 10 rounds not a load of lead, although that would be very satisfying to see.

Balloons with corner reflectors are weather balloons used for measuring wind direction. They could be used to draw fire but this is unlikely as most fire control systems use Doppler gating to identify and get rid of false targets riding the wind They could also be used for setting wind compensation in cruise missiles lacking inertial or satellite guidance.

I'm not calling pants on fire on this, because I'm pretty certain that a large portion as in 90+% is in fact able to get electricity most of the time.
