I bet all those people who complain probably have removed the back glass on their machines and installed mirrors so they can admire themselves. Your videos have helped me fix my pinball machine and you haven't even done a video of it. It's awesome watching stuff come back to life after you have worked on it.

The explanation how RAM test works is just brilliant. It won´t help you in writing your very own RAM test routine in some assembly language, but it gives you an easy to understand explanation how that works. And that´s what we are here for :)

The green on the pins/connectors could be anti-corrosion spray. In the late 60's/ early 70's a lot of the automotive battery anti-corrosion spray cans were green and could be purchased in spray cans or brush cap bottles. The problem with the green was that it could be corrosion, but if it was it got white spots in the green.

23:10 what you describe with the power being wavy when it first starts, when I look at the beginning of a transmission from the Motorola radios, I see exactly that and it is a lower wavy signal I don't know how Motorola or any other company handles that for every digital transmission. The digital data is sent as either above the line or below the line for a 1 or a 0 But it must ignore the first few milliseconds It must have a programming that tells it when it is good signal to read the data Maybe they have a segment of all zeros or all ones and then sends the first datagram That would make sense If the programming says look for a string of at least 12 zeros Ignore that data gram and the next data gram is going to be the first data gram to read and process I just remembered the first part of the signal when you described that. It starts out as a small wave and after about 10 waves it is all the way to the top and bottom of the lines Adjusting the level on the input is critical for getting a proper decode of the digital signal Too high or too low causes it to misread or not be able to read at all. When I was trying to get weak signals it was a mess because amplifying the weak signal gave all sorts of noise and it would think it was reading a 1 or 0 when it wasn't that bit and it was not able to get a good decode. They send a checksum in each data gram so it has to be perfect or it rejects the data gram and won't decode The terrain is really tough here in the northeast and we have times when a hill is between us and we can't hear a signal just 1/2 a mile away Analog was so much more forgiving I miss analog

In a bridge rectifier if one of the 4 diodes is bad, replace the rest of them. They may have been hurt during the overload. You don't want to send it out with unreliable diodes. They'll will be the same age and more closely matched now.

Hi Ron! A quick, potentially silly question today; Over the years, I've watched you clean up/touch up many playfields, back glasses, and/or cabinets with great success, but I don't think I've ever seen you tackle a damaged apron/shooter gauge... Have you filmed such a thing, and I've just missed it?, Or is damage in this area such a rare occurrence that it isn't worth mentioning? I ask because I somehow doubt that your usual acrylic paint will work in this area (the original paint is, I believe, enamel, but I could easily be mistaken).
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
Usually the Aprons are in pretty good shape since they are metal, or not bad enough to repaint if they are destroyed tho you may be better off just buying another one
@daveweston5158 Жыл бұрын
@@LyonsArcade Thank you... I suspected this may be the case, but wasn't sure... Are the aprons fairly generic (from company to company)?
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
I'd try to find one from the same company as the one your working on, for example a bally from 1973 is the same as a bally from 1983 just a different color @@daveweston5158

It would stop after the 4th Flash and wouldn't boot Thanks for watching!
@bradwagner7054 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to walk through this one step at a time. Makes for a longer video, but breaks down a process I'm sure you've done 100 times in a way that others trying to figure this out can use as a blueprint for exactly what to do. Do you need to treat that area on the mounting area for the board @24:50 (bottom right corner of the board with the damage) with vinegar as well to block the alkaline from spreading back up to the board you just fixed? or is that not a concern?
@SharkoonBln Жыл бұрын
After you have applied the vinegar, you let it do it´s thing. Afterwards you wash the vinegar away with IPA or distilled water ( you don´t want the vinegar to eat away what´s left of the traces and via´s ). If you´re really into longevity, you then cover the bare copper with some paint or liquid soldermask.

The green slime is the result of the decomposition of the plasticiser in the PVC insulation compound. Overloading and loose connections are two common causes.

That green looks a bit like polymer migration from the wire. It's a bit weird it is only on a couple of pins. Maybe it was a type of protective coating on them, the pins underneath it do look really clean..... Green goo just doesn't look good...

The company thought ahead about the owners and the companies that had these out in businesses that would need to be fixing these on a regular basis. They did not have to program the LED to blink with each test Thinking about the first computers in the 70s and 80s they didn't have codes or led flashes to tell the end user what didn't POST They must have been planning on selling the boards a lot as part of the business model. Being able to have the identical power board, lamp board, sound board, etc with a couple of socketed chips that are different, that can be pulled and swapped, for the game company they could come in and look at the flashes and swap a board and take the bad board to the shop to be repaired I have seen a vending company and they were neat. They had the machines, the rotary platter door vending machines that you could put anything from a piece of fruit to a piece of pie to a sandwich to a slice of pizza, and those were awesome. And the different soda vending machines, and when snapple came out they had a new machine for those glass bottles, And they had a lot of different departments and they had boxes of apples and oranges and cans of fruit and they made some of the sandwiches and they bought different items from a local bakery and a local catering restaurant. They had a giant walk in cooler that the guys would pull the trucks in to the warehouse and they would load up the trucks and some of them had refrigerators and even freezers built in the side of the trucks. They were amazing. I don't remember how they started out but they were the biggest vending company in the area. They had over 100 trucks Their machines were everywhere. Even some small companies that had 30 to 50 employees would have a soda machine and the rotary platter machine with fruit and sandwiches and candy bars. It is a really nice thing to do for employees OH, this is a personal issue, we have not had Caffeine Free Regular Pepsi, NOT THE DIET CAFFEINE FREE, the regular gold brown label one. It has been missing for 4 years from stores here in Pennsylvania. If anyone sees the 2 liter ones in your local stores, please let me know I don't know if they have stopped making it. Amazon has the 12 pack cans but it is expired, really old, from 4 years ago. I think Pepsi stopped making it, but they said they are still making it, but it has been over 3 years and the only variety that they don't have in any stores. I have tried to special order it and even talked to the local Pepsi guy when he was in the stores. He said they still made it but none of the stores carry it and that makes no sense. Something is going on and I don't know why they don't have it in any store.
