@@247printing Hallöchen! That raises the question: why does speed matter sooo much?! Most users should use their 3D printer as a hobby in the afternoon or at the weekends. And it should not matter to leave the printer printing (even over night) or 16hrs during day, especially since one printing hour does not cost so much (as Mpox video showed). And if I would run a small business, it would be an easy decision to invest in 3 printers (Ender3) and not rely on one expensive one (Bambu) for the same price and for reliability?! So: what is it with speed?! Compared to most Ender 3 variants and clones the P1P is 3-4x more expensive. And to add a important point to your conclusion: you not only learn much about 3D printing from a Prusa Kit, but also from a cheap printer like the Ender. Especially when considering adjustment, troubleshooting, settings in slicer (where BambuLab is limited) and of course modding. The adding of a Klipper solution to any Ender clone via Raspberry Pi, Notebook or Klipper "Pad" alone means ton of learning, understanding and Knoff Hoff. So again: why are people willing to invest like 3 times the money (compared to other basic printers often recommended) to get more speed for a hobby and experience less learnings, less tinkering time and at the end: less time with that hobby? If I "just wanted the 3D printed part" I could also order it at so many manufacturing services out there, without the need of a 3D printer in the first place (to give an extreme example of not being interested in the "how" but only the result). This could be an interesting question to answer, especially with having read so much comments under 3D printer reviews ... like you maybe have read. Grüße!

@@hassosigbjoernson5738from a business standpoint, space is almost always an issue, being able to replace 3 or 4 printers with a single one means that you can either scale up further with the same space or that you need less space for the same print throughput. Also power consumption of running 3-4 machines compared to running only one is also a consideration especially as most of the power use comes from the bed heating and nozzle heating and that is what you are multiplying by having more machines to do the same amount of work. For hobby use, if you are prototyping and want to test parts it speeds up the process a lot being able to quickly print the parts. A lot of the time I am building things, designing and printing parts as I go. Being able to quickly print parts on my voron allows me to continue with the project rather than having to wait for parts to print before moving onto the next part. The difference here between a print that only takes an hour compared to one that takes 4 allows me to do so much more in one day rather than have to wait and put things off to the next day. Obviously when I don’t need it printed fast, I can just up the quality and have a longer print time if I am printing in the evening and will be at work the next day it doesn’t matter if it takes 12+ hours, but when I come home and want to get on with building stuff that evening being able to design, print and implement a part all in one evening is invaluable when you don’t have infinite free time. There is also the issue that the longer a print takes the more likelihood there is for a failure. Some of this is just due to print distance, but also time is a factor and increases the likelihood of electronic failure, power problems or temperature fluctuations. Failing a 16hour print puts you a lot further behind than failing it if it only takes 4.

Broadly speaking, I agree with your conclusion: if you're in the part of the "3d printing community" that doesn't care about building and modding a printer and just wants a tool for making things, the Bambu machines are probably the best choice. The one advantage Prusa has over Bambu is a proven track record, though. If you're a very risk-adverse person, Prusa is probably a slightly more stable company. Not that I have any reason to doubt Bambu's stability, but we don't have long-term data. Likewise, we know the Mk3 in its many forms will run for years, and we just don't have that long-term experience with Bambu. (A subset of this, Prusa parts are available from a lot of different sources, meaning that even if Prusa suffers a catastrophe spare parts will be fairly findable for some time. Whereas Bambu is currently a single-source machine with minimal fallbacks if something happens to the company.) Until I watched this, though, I hadn't thought about the Prusa as an "easy entry" for those who *are* interested in building and modding. That's actually a really good point - getting the Prusa kits will teach a new printor a lot about how to build and maintain a machine, while still offering a lot of strong customer support and high quality parts. If yo're brand new but eventually want to build a Voron or a RatRig, the Prusa machine is probably a really good place to start. Also, you have no idea how happy you made me by remembering that "mk" is pronounced "mark." It drives me bonkers how many KZbinrs say "emm-kay-three." We don't say "dee-are McCoy" or "Fleet ess-tee," after all!

the bambu printer might as well be a smartphone. there are barely any parts for sale and everything is closed off so you can't even fix it with parts from third parties. the people actually running proper print farms will stick to prusa because at least you can buy replacement anything for them directly from the manufacturer. anyone replacing their farm with bambu printers is a fucking idiot, and will pay the price when they start breaking due to natural wear and bambu wants to either get it back for service all the way in china, sell expensive parts or flat out refuse to sell parts to you apple style.

3d printers were always destined to be plug and play appliances, and Bambu is the first to reach that mark. I LOVE to tinker! But I want my printer to be a tool I use in my tinkering, not my project. After getting my hands on my friends new X1 carbon it's a no brainier. My highly modded CR10 has seen the last of it's upgrades. Bambu will surely put out a machine with a larger print capacity and I'm here for it.

As someone that has exclusively used 3 Prusa MK3S+ printers for several years to run a highly reviewed Etsy business I recently ordered my 2nd X1 carbon and will be replacing the Prusa printers. The X1 Carbon somehow prints at 2-4x the speed and even beats the Prusa on quality…I truly didn’t that the quality would be there but somehow it it! I LOVE Prusa they helped me build a great business but somehow Bamu Lab has mateched and even beat Prusas magic sauce.

@@wishihadablog Yes I did consider that. Sorry at some point you have to just give something a try. I have 3 X1 Carbons running full out 20 hours a day and they have been going like that for about 4 weeks now. I’ve had one single clog in all that printing and 2 failed prints..that roughly 1800 print hours already between the 3. Also the replacement parts seem to be readily available on the Bambu website at quite reasonable prices at the time of this comment. Time will tell but so far I have no regrets at all in abandoning my MK3 printers.

Most of Prusa parts will be available for ever and ever. I talk just about spare parts, not the rest (print quality, speed, etc) which is surely better than the Prusa. I have only a doubt about print quality as the majority of X1C users says that the print quality is a just the same as the Prusa.

I just got my p1p. The setup is really easy, and the printing quality is amazing. Sure it's possible to achieve that speed and quality with a voron, but that takes time and money and most importantly experience. Do I still love my prusa and voron? Yes. Those you build with your own hands are quite something else deep in heart. But if I want to buy another printer, and just want it to work, it will be again the p1p.

I made my two Rat Rig based Corexy printers just before the X1 was released so I had no money to join the KS and I do feel like I missed out on something special. After the P1P was released I decided to upgrade one of my printers with the Rapido and LDO motors and I can compete with the speeds so that made me feel a lot better, but I really would like the X1 Carbon with the multi material setup. My Prusa is still my go to printer for anything that needs PETG, ASA or PCCF it prints those so well with a small upgrade of a nozzle X. I do have the MMU for the prusa, but I was never able to get a reliable filament rewinding system in my small space so I removed it. Bambu really have done a good job of shaking up the printer market for 2023, exciting times !

Today I saw content of Adam (Vector3D) about really handy filament clips. I want them, but don't need them quickly. Started Prusa Slicer, picked a default setting, sent it to Octoprint and started the print on the MK3 blindly. If not in a hurry: It still has it's nice touch!

to really be more relevant, i think Prusa needs to make a corexy Prusa Cube that works with their toolchanger and multi filament system. especially since they are making their fork of the marlin input shaping algo and a corexy takes better advantage of that feature than an i3 bed slinger type. the cube footprint helps it fit spaces without needing to worry about extra front or rear spacing. having the bed stationary, layer shifts from bed acceleration or a slipping magnetic bed arent really a concern anymore. everything just goes fast.

The X1C is has transformed my little printing farm into a cash collecting win fall... The speed i can smash out clean looking prints is just next level. The P1P is just the next step to converting all my machines over eventually. But... @ nearer to 1k au and by the time you add an AMS ($500*) Then the extra's.... IMO if your looking the multicolour then the X1C still represents better overall value imo. The day Bambu Labs decided to release a 300 x 300 or even 400 x400 printer it's game over.

Agree. My MK3s has been off ever since my X1C has been running. The only thing the Prusa has going for it right now is quietness. I use to be able to have the MK3s on my desk printing and still have a work meeting. With the X1C, even in silent mode, is too loud and annoying. However, with how sturdy the X1C is, if I need to do a print during work hours, I just pick it up and move it to a different room, then use it remotely, since sending files and monitoring the print are both super simple. Like many others, I am also have a Prusa XL on preorder, although, after rounds of delays and no end in sight, I wonder if I will even bother following through now that I have the X1C. Especially since the X1C with the AMS does everything I wanted the XL to do, and faster.

I have two X1C's and a Prusa MK3S+ and although I really enjoy using the Bambu machines, I won't be retiring my MK3 any time soon. Yes, it's slower, but a decent number of my prints are run slow and hot, so that's OK (PC-CF for one) - I get fantastic results from the Prusa. I also like Prusa Slicer better than Bambu Studio as it feels more mature and feature-rich - although now I've had the network connectivity of the X1C, I really miss that on the Prusa. I've also had more issues with the X1C (bad camera, bad heatbed sensor cable, filament jams - in just a few months), and I don't think the firmware is "there" yet. Even with all the fancy sensors, it will still under-extrude, phantom print, and other dumb things. I've had to clear several plugged nozzles on my X1C's and never had that happen on my Prusa (knock on wood). Now, if I was recommending a printer to a noob on a limited budget .... I would have to point them at the P1P over the MK3S+ (kit). Yes, it's proprietary in a lot of ways, but Bambu's part pricing is very reasonable and their shipping is quick. The results (especially using Bambu-branded materials) are excellent and fast. It will be interesting to see, over time, what modders do with them.

Hi guys, please help me decide between a P1P and X1C. If I upgrade the P1P's head to a hardened steel version, and perhaps add DIY covers to have a kind of enclosed cabinet (I may also add some chamber heating) will I get the same results when printing higher temperature filaments, like nylon, carbon or ASA ? Without warping. I understand I will miss the more comfortable control panel, but are there anything else I would miss and regret not buying the much more expensive X1C?

I think it goes without saying that Bambu Lab knocked it out of the park across the board. However, I find it odd that they don’t offer an upgrade path for the P1P to carbon level and it just limits the amount of money they can make. Aka, you should, be able to buy the stripped down P1P and upgrade it, fully over time, to the Carbon. In the end, it would cost more, but allow the customer to outlay the fundss over time. Aka, the budget constrained could still get in, and over time, have the same product and? Bambu still profits well from it. Re Prusa, they’ve manaaged to set the standard for years, but, obviously haven’t innovated in too long. I bought a Sovol SV05, modeled after the Creality 5 and it cost me 279.00. Creality, is the ones that made Prusa over priced. Joe and gang however, aren’t “done” in my opinion. I believe it won’’t be long before we see their response to the market changes. Will it be too late? I don’t think so. Don’t count them out yet.

Good summary. The real dilemma I see is whether the Bambulab models will hold up as well as the Mk3S+ in terms of wear/adjustment/etc. I've built a Voron 0.1 and my Mk3S+ and aside from a bearing issue with the Prusa (no, the linear bearings are NOT pre-lubricated lol) I haven't had any problems with either. I'm looking hard at the X1 Carbon just because it takes all the MIND-NUMBING and error-prone guesswork out of tuning resonance, pressure advance, and extrusion rates. I really, REALLY loved how the default profiles from Prusa just worked out of the box with their filament on the Mk3S+ but as soon as you want to move to something more useful like ASA or other engineering-grade (lol, I know) filaments, you have to go back and retune so many things that it becomes a real drag. I'm past the "I wanna build the kit to learn how this stuff works" and well into "get off my lawn, I just want it to print well all the time." Warm regards from Texas and Merry Christmas. ;) (not so warm here, though. Was 10F/-12C here last night.)

Tons of problems are already coming out with the X1. Check reddit, twitter, fb groups, etc. My friend just got his X1 last friday, and the same day the stepper motor went bad and he still hasn't heard back from bambu CS. Didn't even have 10 hours on it. Just another china made printer with china made parts and quality.

mAnyone know if there's a reason to avoid buying a neptune 4 plus or something over a bambulab p1p? Other than a bit of troubleshooting on the neptune you still get crazy speeds and decent quality. Genuinely curious since a neptune is significantly cheaper and elegoo has pretty great customer support, I'm open to either option but I've got no interest in multimaterial single prints.

If you already have Prusa printers , they do produce good quality. ( with some upgrades ). I have 9 Mk3 s. Minis etc. after receiving the Bambu x1 carbons. They are my new go to printers. Now I do still use the prusa s. But usually just to mass produce something. if I need to print quickly it’s so much faster to do it on the Bambu printer. I had a deposit for a couple of the Prusa xl s. But honestly I don’t really see a need for it. I could buy 6 bambu p1p s. For the price of the XL from prusa. ( with the 5 tool heads. ).

I’m in the exact same boat. I’ve exclusively loved and used Prusas for the last few years and have a deposit down on 2 XL model but have canceled one. I just don’t see how an XL with 5 tool heads for $4k can possibly replace a single X-1 Carbon with AMS for $1500. Or add 3 extra AMS units for a total of $2550…16 colors and superior speed. I hope this wakes up Prusa and they put out a better, faster machine. Win win for us consumers!

i dont own a prusa nor im a fanboy of it, but i think the main reason going to a Prusa XL is the more stable build quality (maybe for long term use, if it matter) and you have a multi material printfarm not to ooze so much filament. But there is a lot oozing before break even...

I currently have an Artillery Genius, I am looking to upgrade and want to get a printer that is quite and has best finish quality. Would be great if someone with one of the newer faster printers tested finish and noise at lower speeds. It's hard to find reviews that focus on that side of things. They are always noisy. Tmc drivers are not always silent or silent because they are tmc drivers, it depends in which mode they are. Stealthchop, the silent mode, is weaker, less accurate and has less maximum speed compared to spread cycle, the performance mode. The bamboo uses exclusively spread cycle, otherwise it couldn't move as fast as it does.

Great review. This is a pretty good machine. The Sovol SV06 is supposed to be a great Prusa MK3 clone. I won't have mine for a couple weeks. I have been a huge fan of Prusa since they came out, but there are a few newcomers that are stepping up

The Sovol SV06 is very much LIKE a Prusa, but I'd describe it as an "early Beta of the MK3S" - it doesn't have a lot of the "nice to have" features of a MK3 (like filament run-out sensor or independent Z axis steppers - they're wired together - or the really user-friendly firmware). Still, for what they cost, they are a solid printer. I set up a profile in PrusaSlicer for the Sovol SV06 and it's been working great. If it wasn't for the screamin' PSU fan, it'd be almost silent, too.

As a hobbyist I'm cautious about printers in closed ecosystems of parts. Given it has a fast growing following. I rather build a Voron and be able to purchase parts from more than one manufacturer. Also being able to upgrade to suit my needs. As a consumer my interest is peeked, but I've done the early DJI dance and was let down. Eventually they came out with products that resolved the issues created by their new design techniques. I would suggest the p1p or carbon to anyone who doesn't have time to put one together.

brillant video! My own personal opinion on the Bamboo Labs printers is that they are absoletly amazing high speed printers for a fairly reasonable price that is fairly fool prool and are great for the people who just want a printer that is high speed and just work with little to no tinkering/building required. However with that being said, i can say that for most people in the 3D printing community we will often spend more time on tinkering and upgrading our machines than spending time printing stuff. So it really down to the persons goal and what they want out of a printer to go with Bamboo Labs or others like prusa, voron, ratrig or even vzbots. I personally feel that the Bamboo labs are targeting more towards small businesses and engineering firms rather than everyday hobbiest printer guys, where they requires high reliability and fast print time and most importantly no tinkering, to just get prototying parts out.

Hard to compare the Prusa screen and the P1P screen: Different approaches: The encoder style on Prusa is faster and more convenient to use. Also less delays. If you have the opportunity: Try to check out both to get a feeling!

When I switched from Ender 3 V2 with its big LCD color screen to the Prusa i3 MK3S+, I thought "what a screen downgrade !". I planned to ad a touch screen connected to my octoprint. But after the first interactions with the controls, it's way better than the controls of the Ender 3 V2 itself. When you know it, it takes few seconds to do what you want to. It's very intuitive and effective. I will say even better than a touchscreen with a bad or just good UI. After two years, I print with my Prusa several times a week and never put the touchscreen that I wanted to the first time... By seeing the controls of the P1P, when you have the Prusa i3 experience, you know within a second that they are worse than the Prusa. Especially with theses buttons.

I have a laser printer. It prints my documents without having to tell it what speed to print, what temperature to use, etc. That's how I want my 3d printer. Notice how "I" want it. Bambu Labs is a step in this direction. Next, let's get A1 involved in the software so I get PERFECT prints every time, just like my laser printer.

Honestly if I were wanting a printer that just works without tinkering then I'd still recommend the prusa over the bambu lab. There's good slicer profiles for nearly every filament, there's better access to spares and the supply chain is there. It's a proven platform and the support is just miles better than what bambu lab have in place. I think the bambu lab printers can take that spot away from prusa, but it's just not there yet.

The single issue I don't like about the Mk3 is the old-school nozzle. I find getting the 2-part nozzle and heat break seated properly incredibly difficult and I've ruined two different hotends because of blobs of doom caused by imperfectly seated nozzles. I think Prusa would be well advised to switch the Mk3 to the same nozzle the XL will be using.

If your plan is to just get an X1(C) or P1P, I think the argument of "learning by building" is mostly irrelevant because you can't really upgrade or repair much yourself anyway.

Most of the parts on 3D printers are damn near bulletproof. I've been pushing my printers to their limits for years, and never had a non-consumable part fail. Stepper motors are near bulletproof, and as long as electronics are kept within their operating range, they'll last for many years. I've been running a few Ender 3's on Klipper so fast that they shake the heavy table they're on for 2 years. The only thing I've ever had to replace is rollers and a belt. The Bambu Labs printers are on linear rails, so don't have to worry about rollers.

I Think you had the right Conclusion. In the End my main Question is, why Prusa didn't evolve in the last 5+ years and why they stuck so long to the bedslinger design which is imo a bad idea. I got an Sidewinder and then a Zero G (Voron fork) and im happy with my Voron but also jealous of the Bambu users and after building and tinkering i think a working machine is the thing i need. More than a Printer to finetune. The Question is, if a Prusa with a very very detailed guide to build it up and working nearly out of the box is the right thing to tinker. The best one is still a good old Ender 3 with 300-400€ stupid wasted Money for some mods. The only Reason for me to consider buying a very expensive Prusa was the beginner friendly design like sensorless endstops + the detailed documentation + the Community to get a lot of feedback to fix problems. I really consider buying a Bambolab and ditch my 350x350 Zero G. the p1p should be enough but its like apple you want a bit better then you can buy the X1 and the extra "few bucks" for the carbon with these nice features is a simple decision. But 1300€ vs 700€ is a big difference and most parts are the same... I just wish the hotend is quick changeable with different nozzle sizes and i hope they build up a great eco system with (at least now) very fair prices! PS: Haste deinen Weihnachtsschnaps gefunden? :P

Thanks! Good question - a possible answer why Prusa didn't evolve much: There was not much need for this. The copy cats were cheaper anyways and mechanically it's hard to strengthen an IP. So they focused on small iterations of the product and on strengthening their ecosystem as well as all of their "secondary values": Such as support and quality/reliability.

The nice thing about reprap open source style printers (Prusa, Voron, etc) is when things inevitably wear out or break, the parts are off the shelf components and 3D printed parts. This also allows easy upgrades (Prusa is notorious for this) If Bambu Labs stops making parts, you now have something going into a landfill. They went too far into the appliance black box side of things IMHO.

Said something similar on Reddit. Right to repair is huge, you have to send this back to get it fixed, and like you said, it's a big expensive paperweight if Bambu goes under. Secondly, prusa isn't a thing of the past. I have the xl on pre order and that thing is stuffed with all kinds of fancy tech that the x1c doesn't even have. And you can be sure all of it will be drizzling into a more affordable Mk4 any day now with an announcement.

The only thing that bothers me, is that many reviewers claim that the P1P/X1 is loud and shouldnt be in the same room as you most of the time. Like you already said. Since i have my gaming PC in the same room its important for me, that the printer is as quiet as it can be.

That's one of the advantages of the Prusa. It makes a fair amount of noise too, but if you first get a very heavy paving stone that's like 40x40cm squared and thick, and put that under it to soak up vibrations, that quiets it down a lot. If you then also add an enclosure, that will control the fan noise as well. I run my MK3 in my office space in a makeshift enclosure and I can live with the sound. Especially since i print PETG almost entirely; PETG doesn't need the maximum cooling PLA does, so the tiny fan doesn't have to spin at a gazillion rpm and howl its head off.

I run multiple prusa printers 5 inches away from me on the same desk where my gaming PC is set up. They sit on 1/2 rubber pads from home depot and they are just as quiet as when i use to have them sitting on a heavy concrete paver. I can sleep in the same rooms in my prusas. Cant do that with a bambu. even when running bambu at really slow speeds. Its just ridiculously loud for no reason.

Hey, I personally don't use 3D printers on my jop directly - mostly use outlook, powerpoint, excel for planning/managing. The company I am working for (car manufacturer) uses all kinds of 3D printing though for prototyping, production and individualization.

If you want to keep your machine maintained, it being Open Source is the most important thing you can have. Closed source printers were the reason why 3D printing wasn't available for 30 years prior to now. Open source is what _MADE_ 3D printing available to people, and continues to be what drives development. The Bambu is using an open source slicer, and firmware. They wouldn't have been able to accomplish their ENTIRE business model without it.

Bambu lab puts the Prusa in an odd position. The features of X1 is just another generation and tech compared to mk3 which offers waaay more features. I feel like if prusa made the X1 they would have priced it at least $2.5k for comparison you can see their barebone XL which is priced at 2k and its made of extrusions/3d printed parts and lacks features compared to X1
