Right-wingers contend that the only Bible translation to read is the King James Version of 1611. It is composed in seventeenth century English, a challenge to read for anyone, but particularly nonspecialists;. Rightwingers are proud of not having read an=y of the challenged books in full. They would have a hard time reading the KJV. Moreover, the principles set out in the Testaments formed the foundation of America in the seventeenth century, which also witnessed witch hunts. To ban the Bible is to spit oon the roots of America. Appalling!

@stormsiren7207 Жыл бұрын
This is what happens when you want to ban certain books, but in order to do that you have to make a law saying what books qualify for the ban, and it's not like you can just come right out and say in the language of the law that you basically want to ban every single book except for the Bible and maybe a few other books that you happen to like that agree with your political and religious ideas, while only banning the books that contradict those things. Because that would be unconstitutional. So what happens instead is if you really want to ban some books you have to make a law that says we are banning them based on violence, sexual content, etc., and it just so happens your own number one favorite book can't abide by those rules either. But you went ahead and made the laws anyway and now you're suffering the consequences. This is what happens when you mess with the First Amendment. And to top things off somehow everyone who supported these book bans in the first place didn't realize what was going to happen even though you should have seen it coming, assuming you actually read that one book you say is so important.

@donijeffery-harris3056 Жыл бұрын
In Utah, it is legal for children to get married and enter into legally recognized sexual relationships at age 16. 16. Yet these banning groups deem kids too young to access books that even briefly mention sex, maturation, or real-world challenges that children WILL face until after they graduate high school at age 18+. Ironically, the groups are fine with very young kids accessing violent materials, such as "The Hunger Games" books or "Harry Potter," despite violence and murder not being acceptable adult human behavior. The fact is that book bans are almost always about self-righteous domination, propoganda, and mind control. They are used over and over to crush critical thinking and limit the possibility that someone might question the authority that is being forced upon them. These groups aren't trying to protect children. They are trying to enslave children's minds and sculpt them into mindless followers.

As far as proving a point goes, targeting the Bible is certainly going to get attention - though as a matter of principle I do not support book banning, not even the Bible, despite the fact that I am an atheist, I believe it holds great cultural, literary, and historical value to society - if only people would stop worshiping it. *I swear I read a passage about Idolatry being bad in it.*

It really just depends on the specific denomination and how they interpret it. Majority would frown on worshipping a bible since it's an inanimate object. The bible is supposed to be viewed as a tool to your faith. Not the faith itself. This is all just from my own observations on Christianity, growing up around it. I'm agnostic, so not an expert on Christians though 😂

This is what I would say: schools are supposed to be a place of learning. You should expect to be more informed and less ignorant. The Bible IS the most printed book in the world. It has defined cultures around the world for thousands of years. Legal precepts come directly from the Bible and it was used for the explanation of reality for billions throughout history and even to this day. It’s also a book that belongs to the largest religion in the world and even has significance for other religions like Islam and Judaism. Banning a book with such vital significance of the human condition is essentially forcing their students to be ignorant on a colossal scale. Even if people don’t believe it to be the word of God it still has literary value. The gay sex books are only pornography
