At first glance, doubles may seem like a more chaotic version of singles, but there's actually much more to it. There's plenty to learn about positioning, team combos, and much more. Here, I cover the basics to get you started.
Other great doubles videos:
• How to play Doubles in... (SuperGirlKels)
• The GOLDEN Smash Bros.... (SSBM Tutorials)
• Abusing Throw Invincib... (Captain L)
Songs Used:
N64 Sherbet Land - Mario Kart Wii
Gusty Garden Galaxy - Super Mario Galaxy
Athletic (Yoshi's Island) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Hi everyone! Hope you guys enjoyed the video. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, unfortunately, and there are a few things I feel I left out. So here they are in case you guys want to learn a bit more: -Staying near your teammate makes the area you have to focus on smaller, thus, it becomes easier to pick up on easy damage opportunities. -After or during "down time" it is still okay to continue playing neutral, especially if it looks like your teammate's doing just fine. But remember to always use that time to check up on your partner's condition, just in case they need assistance. -You don't have to always throw an opponent to your teammate. If they're doing a great job in a separate 1v1, a second opponent might be a distraction for them. Usually it's best to signal in some way that you're open for a team combo (facing your teammate helps).

Absolutely love this video, I'd add that intentionally making it unclear who you're focusing on in neutral or while one opponent is in disadvantage is really strong as it allows you to pressure both opponents at once, making it that much easier for your teammate to win neutral, while also making the opponent in disadvantage feel like they need to save their teammate from a 2v1 which often leads to rushed sloppy approaches you can punish. The more I've played doubles the more I've found just noncommitally staying in the space of the opponent my teammate's fighting to be a really effective strategy, especially when playing a character that's hard to hit. Also most (all?) pummels have hitboxes that can also be used to deter/mix-up opponents trying to punish you for grabbing their teammate even if your character doesn't have a throw with a hitbox. Some of the better pummels can even shield poke pretty easily, or just keep the opponent in shield long enough for your teammate to do something.

Honestly Doubles has been my preferred way of play ever since the end of Smash 4 so this was really helpful. Doubles makes the competitive game more exciting for me since there’s a lot more to focus on than just myself and my opponent and it’s nice having someone watch your back. Gonna practice some of these tactics the next chance I get.

Like, how do people think to tell , for example, "Ness is -2 against Lucina". I hope it's clear. - A video about "How to analyse our matches". A very important subject also not covered enough by players. I hope you'll see this comment, and keep up the great work! 🤗
