Really good quality footage for when this was filmed, a refreshing gem. Being familiar with the yards at Woodford through the 50s up until 1962, I would date this film as being taken after June 1965, due to the total absence of freight wagons in the sidings, GW locos still at work at Banbury, plus an LMS 8F invader, the LMR locos took over this area for the final couple of years of steam.

GW engines would often reach Nottingham on these workings. When I ‘spotted’ at Banbury, slightly earlier than these views, ex LMS locos would pick up these trains at Banbury, fewer GW engines worked North. Saw ‘Scots’ living out their last few months. Was not unusual in late ‘50s and early ‘60s to see Southern engines getting as far North as Banbury on busy Saturdays. Oh, those were the days!

I paid several visits to Woodford Halse, Banbury, etc. in the early 60s, so well remember scenes such as these. Sadly, I couldn't afford a ciné camera, so only black & white and colour stills. These are on a certain other photo sharing site, it begins with an F, that I'm not supposed to mention on here!

I can remember standing at Banbury station late October 65 and there was a filthy rebuilt BofB waiting to take the train on to Bournemouth off the GCR. Sadly, our train for Snow Hill came so I did not get to see what brought the train in and its loco depart light engine to Oxford or the light pacific couple up to the train and leave.

Nice video ,a friend who used to spot at Leicester Central said ex GW engines and occasionally SR engines were quite common there

I used to live close to the GC south of Leicester, which was a main change over point for trains, sometimes just crew changes, but more often locos too on the passenger workings, so in Leicester you could get locos from the North Eastern, Great Western and very occasionally Southern Region in the late 1950's early 1960's. Summer time cross country traffic used to bring all sorts of steam and diesel hydraulics up from the Great Western.

Fantastic film. I believe the journey would have been late 1965 as Woodford looked to be abandoned so after July. The later shots around Leicester Central 1964/pre-July when the Annesley to Woodford runners finished.

On closer examination, I think this is spliced together footage from different years, as the Leicester area shots include freight, and the picture quality is not so good.
