Kanami Tono sensei, my absolute favorite guitarist ever. And it's not even about technique or "flashiness", it's about the passion and the feels... no other guitarist had made me cry so many times: Puzzle, Daydreaming, Anemone, Awkward, Wonderland, About Us, Endless Story... and the list goes on and on and on lol Not to mention how freakin masterful she is as a composer. Creating such an strong base for the rest of the band to built on top of that. Another reason on why she's so awesome, Kanami is a 110% team player, she never thought about herself in the first place... all of she does is for the band and songs, and that's part of her genious Anyways (i'm talking too much), thanks for this video Ryan, i think it's necessary that the world knows about this little genious musician and songwriter that Kanami Tono is. And thanks to AntMusic for making this compilation!

She has such delicate and almost spider-like fingers and her touch looks so soft yet the sound is so powerful. I think some of this was content that she put out during quarantine along with MISA teaching Akane how to play bass and MISA and Aina teaching each other songs. I think this is what gave them the idea for Band-Maid Prime and the member focused songs.

Kanami Tono and Tomo-Zo are my 2 faves just because they play outside the box, and write very interesting melodies and solos - they can shred when they want to, but mostly use little intricate snippets. I love their instructional videos which really show how unusual and detailed their guitar parts are

I like classical and I like rock but I'm not a musician. But I had no idea that you could compose rock on the piano like a piece of classical music. Until one day I saw a video (the one you show Ryan) of Kanami performing Yolo. Since that date Mincho has become for me the best rock composer and the best guitarist that I have ever seen. This girl is fascinating and arouses admiration.

Not that I'm any comparison, but all my music that I've released, started out as solo-acoustic performances that I developed into full band pieces. BUT I never took something that was beautiful and delicate and turned it into a monster like BAND-MAID does!

I suspect that part of Kanami's genius is her ability - maybe even her tendency - to think outside the usual box rhythmically, for example, playing a six-beat pattern over MISA and Akane in 4/4 so that everything is always shifting in relation to each other before coming back together - or having the rhythmic equivalent of a modulation to make a smooth transition into the next section. This post is so cool, because we've got what Kanami wrote (sometimes with a different arrangement on piano), compiled by Ant, and then Ryan learning it on the fly. And I think Ryan is spot on about parts sounding completely new in isolation, I totally got that from Axe Japan's guitar part breakdown of "One And Only." I'm guessing that this is because all the instruments are so integrated and woven together that even when focused on just one I can't help but also hear the interaction with the others and not just the lone instrument.

Thank you Ryan for sharing this with us and AntMusic for putting together the compilation of instagram vids. I love all the members of the band but I have a special admiration and fondness for Kanami. Listening to the conversations with her and other band maids during the Acoustic Okyuji she asked how long the band has been together and the surprise on her face when she was told they've together for 8 years. She is so committed to her music and living in the moment that she's oblivious to things like how long they've been a band, concentrating all her talent and skills on the bigger picture - making music for their masters and princesses.

Professional musicians in Japan see themselves mainly as craftsmen so passing music skills down is very important. That's why these videos are done and publications such as "Young Guitar" are important.

The music that Kanami pulls out of the ether and into the real world for me is some of the most beautiful stuff I've heard in a long time. At this point, I'm just one of her forever fans. That Domination lick is so emblematic of her originality. I often go back to the Domination MV to get yet again blown away by the beauty and originality of the composition (all the instruments, but esp those drumlines). (And it's gotta be the MV for me as I don't find the fan-favorite Shibuya live clean enough.) I can't wait for the band's new music.

Dear Ryan!😁 Greetings from the firrt PC on a hot day, but not the heat of summer yet. Japan are at last starting to open ttheir doors to foreign tourists. All should be allowed in by October!!! Kanami is such generous sweetheart!😁 She is a rarity: a genious who utterly enjoys teaching and sharing her craft. Being a very person at heart this is when she can express herself totally. No wonder Miku could learn her craft so quickly. Apparently she is a very tough teacher in private. I watched her no-nonsense leadership during pre-concert rehearsals difficult to imagine in our "Western" countries!😁 Whatever happens in the future she will always be a teacher!😁 Best regards Robert-Gilles

Thank you Ryan for this video, great to see Kanami from another angle than on stage. And great to have you on guitar as well.
