The word is that this tune, Manners, is about the bands progress. In the early three years they were the creatures of the agency. Told what to wear. Playing the music they were handed. They accepted it because they knew it was the only way forward. Still, they weren't getting a big response, and the agency was seriously planning to pull the plug. Then, a vlogger that promoted J-rock, posted the MV for the tune Thrill. It caught fire all over the world. The agency was flooded with emails in many languages. The company though they had been hacked. When the dust settled, Band-Maid had a new lease on life. They still had to be well mannered Japanese women. But, as the song said, "Their rock never dies". And our queens kept working. Doing gigs at big anime convention, Going on the road in Europe and North America (Saludo a México.). And all the while their fame and music kept growing. They changed agencies twice. Presumably to gain more artistic freedom and money. Now they can play anywhere in the world and sellout in days. They dress as they please and make the music they want.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

To borrow a line from a (mostly) 90s television show, They're real and they're spectacular. I first encountered them here on KZbin nine years ago with their first music video, "Thrill." It was the best new music I'd heard in decades. They've only gotten better with each passing year. I'd given up on new music many years ago, having grown up on 80s rock/metal and gradually moved to 70s and then 60s rock (the Beatles having been my all-time favorite). In the years since discovering Band-Maid, they have become my all-time favorite band. Their entire discography is diverse and amazing (IMO they have no bad songs) and they're even better live. I've seen them in concert several times and they never disappoint. TL;DR: Best band on Earth and possibly the entire universe. You're in for quite a ride.

Definitely worth another listen straight through. Their songs are short, but they’re very dense. As a rule, their second verse is always different from their first, and they’ll do a lot of riffs that they’ll play once for a transition and you’ll never hear again, and stuff like that. As an illustrative exercise, just focus on the drummer, and notice how frequently she’s changing up her patterns. Then do the same for the bass, etc. In this song in particular, they play a really interesting solo section, where if you pay close attention, the bassist is basically also playing a solo. It’s really a duet. Also, this band is very permissive about reactors using their official videos from their KZbin channel, so don’t feel compelled to pause a ton, or do weird overlays or anything.

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

I have listened to “Manners” over 400 times. It is from their album “Unseen World,” which I listened to every day for over a year after its release. I have never gotten tired of the song or that album. About 4 1/2 years ago, KZbin continued to suggest the song "Thrill" by BAND-MAID. At first, my thoughts were, "Maids? Are you serious? Go home, KZbin, you're drunk." But KZbin kept insisting, so I decided to check the video out. It was one of the best decisions of my life. "Thrill" completely surprised me! It had a fantastic riff, bass line, drumming, and vocals! I checked out a couple of their other songs but was on a different musical journey then, so I moved on. Several months later, KZbin suggested the newly dropped video "Onset." I remembered that I liked their music and decided to watch it. HOLY GUACAMOLE! I hadn't heard an instrumental song like that in years. I was so impressed I told everyone I knew about them. Down the pigeonhole, I went. Enjoy your BAND-MAID journey!

Welcome. As a 57 year old who grew up on classic rock, I can appreciate where you are coming from. Other songs in this vein are Bubble, Glory, Dragon Cries, Dice (a little faster but definitely a classic rock vibe). Choose Me, Don't You Tell Meand Alone are rock songs with a bit more "pop sensibilities". Slower songs they have are Daydreaming, Endless Story, Wonderland About Us and Memorable. A lot of their songs are a bit more intense (faster, heavier) but still have good choruses. If you want to see their playing ability then check out the From Now On MV.

Go Roger, You are still the man!!!!! Just to let you know my friend, Roger has just turned you on to the best hard rock band out there right now. The five young insanely talented Japanese women WILL ROCK YOUR WORLD!!!!! The band has been together for over ten years and are the most together, talented, and professional band out there. I'm 75 years old and have seen (and heard) a lot of rock in my life. If seen in live concerts some of the most iconic bands ever. i.e. Cream (in their very early years), The Doors, The Byrds, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers Band, etc. and the not so well known. I honestly felt the kind of rock and roll I loved was dead until I discovered Band-Maid on KZbin. I have been to two of their live concerts and came away feeling that every penny I spent and the hours I spent waiting in line was completely worth it. Please keep reacting to Band-Maid. It will be a journey well worth it. The band has recorded over 130 songs in their ten years together and every one of the songs are good, some are great, and some are absolutely fantastic. The next three songs I suggest you listen to are "Hate?", "Don't You Tell ME", the official live videos from their 10th Anniversary Tour finale last November, and "Bestie", the official music video, a mid-tempo song written and recorded in collaboration with Mike Einziger of the rock band Incubus. The one thing I can say about the video is that's it's beautiful in so many ways.

For my part, you should react to the 2021 Okyu-Ji (livestream short gig) that features this song Manners and another banger of a composition, Black Hole, which is diametrically opposed in style to Manners. You should also check out two their instrumentals, the live official video of "Onset" and the music video of "From Now On". Both songs give a true indication of their stellar musicianship. You will not be disappointed by ANYTHING of Band Maid that you react to. That is a simple fact. I loved your initial reaction, which all of us Maidiacs do when someone reacts to them for the first time. Enjoy the ride my friend.

Welcome to The Best Band In The World! And yes, all there songs rock like this, if not more so. And they just finished up their 10th Anniversary Tour end of last year. So you've got some catching up to do. I suggest one a week, at least, since some can't manage to get one a day out. Each member has their own personal influences, which include, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Smashing Pumpkins, Sheena Ringo, Maximum The Hormone and The Pixies. They don't stick to any single genre and keep switching them up, sometimes within the same song They manage to keep it familiar yet different and always distinctly BAND-MAID. They are a genre unto themselves. You don't have to pause all that much. A few pauses and backups us usually enough. And yes, they even do soft acoustic ballads. So, though they do consider themselves to be Hard Rock, don't forget to check out the Softer Side of BAND-MAID. However LIVE is where they really shine. And, with few exceptions, the Official LIVE is usualy the definitive version of the songs

Welcome! It's so cool that you've already identified that they have their own style. I checked your channel and saw a lot of classic rock. Other songs with more of a classic rock feel like "Manners" include "Turn Me On", "Thrill", and "Take Me Higher". I grew up with grunge and alternative rock in one ear and all the classic rock bands in the other. But it turns out Band-Maid is the band I've been waiting for my whole life.

Been together for nearly eleven years. They write the music and lyrics and are brilliant live. Based on Maid Cafe's in Japan. It was Miku's (Red Rose) idea to form a rock band that had the look of cute Maids and then played rock music. They called it 'The Gap' between what they wear, their battle gear, and what they sound like. As usual you will hear fans make statements that seem widely exaggerated. I promise they are not. The band is simply superb and can play everything. They will melt the heart with songs or melt the brain with others. They are simply a great band that had they been formed in the West would have become legendary by now.

There is a live version of MANNERS on their YT channel (they never block anything taken from their channel which comes as a double bill with their fastest song BLACK HOLE (220 bpm finale). 4:49 - funny you mention Led Zeppelin (who I saw live in 79) as Jimmy Page saw Band-maid perform live back in 2016...and went backstage to ask Akane the drummer for a selfie he was so impressed with the band. 🤘🤘Gotta recommend that you react to HATE? live as it'll show you what they are capable of doing live (apart from blowing your socks off and causing your jaw to fall off that is) and it's recent, from a November gig. Subscribed because I know what those looks of astonishment, love and admiration mean when someone sees Band-Maid for the first time - it means "I want to see more Band-Maid!".

Great reactions I've caught a couple of yours already with this group. These five amazing talented incredible women. Are such a breath of fresh air. After what the music and recording industry here in the US. Has done to music the last 3 or 4 decades. Warning though, the fan base is very difficult to deal with at times. Too many of them think they're just as important as the band. And many are self-appointed PR and spokespersons it seems for the group. In their minds anyway !If you can stomach them. This is Band Maid's Prog Rock influenced song. but being Band Maid they took a 14 minute prog rock song and did it in 4 minutes. They can do just about any style of rock from soft rock ballads (Daydreaming) Classic Rock (Dice) Hard Rock (Blooming) Punk (Afterlife) Anthemic Rock (Choose me) Power Metal (Black Hole), Anime (Unleash!!!) and Instrumentals (From now on) they even do song's with traditional instuments (Gion-Cho) and acoustic sets (Sayonakidori), in consert they often have Guitar/Bass battles mid consert (Hate??) or drum Solo's (Freedom) they have 150+ songs and a good 100 of them are as good as anything coming out of the west, they are teaming up with the best band from North America next month (The Warning) And if you can cope with the language barrier, Japan has a massive rock scene and while Band maid are the best imo here are a ten others who are top tier Love Bites, Ninjen isu, Trident, East of Eden, Aldious, Pokadot Stingray, Nemophila, Scandal, Yousei Teikoku, One OK rock.

An incredibly hard rocking band - wearing maid outfits. MIKU calls it the gap - your eyes tell you one thing but your ears tell you something completely different! But don’t worry! The disorientation is very temporary. After 3 or 4 BAND-MAID songs you won’t even notice the outfits - you’ll just hear the music. And the music is DAMN GOOD! I found Band-Maid 3 years ago. I was bored with Western Rock and then I found this all female quintet from Tokyo who actually know WTF they're doing. They have a ton of influences. These girls grew up in the 90's & 00's listening to their parent's classic rock, alt rock, and grunge. They cite influences ranging form Deep Purple, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Japanese bands like One OK Rock and Maximum the Hormone. Japanese rock is highly inventive: you need to check it out. Band-Maid performs songs that blend Punk, Pop, Prog, Jazz, Fusion, Rap, Metal, speed-metal, and maybe a little Alice Cooper-esque Broadway showmanship. Their classic rock roots are very evident in their diverse catalog of songs created over their 11 year career. And they are one of the best live shows you'll ever see. They travel light and put on a show that combines superb musicianship with their good natured humor and affability. No one leaves a Band-Maid show without a huge smile on their face. Most of their catalog is hard rock but with the occasional ballad and slow song. The writing is what makes them special: you hear a Band-Maid song once and a few days later that tune will be stuck in your head. Just hit Band-Maid's KZbin Channel and play songs at random. You saw it right. Band-Maid are the best rock band around- male or female and have been for the last ten years. They play everything from this bluesy rock to hard rock/metal. They are- Miku- (red rose) Founder 2013, Lyrics, Baking vocals, Rhythm guitar. Kanami- Music, Lead guitar. Saiki (Blue Rose)- Lead vocals. Misa- Bass and Akane- Drums. Anything from their Official Channel should not get blocked but they are more famously known for their Official Live Videos- Domination, Don't You Tell Me, Real Existence or Official Music Videos- Blooming, Choose Me and the slower Wonderland or Daydreaming. While they are a Hard Rock band, at any time (of their choosing) they will stray into Punk, or Metal, Funk, Pop, Ballads, Acoustic and more. They have amazing vocals but also have some equally amazing INSTRUMENTAL songs. Believe it or not, this is one of the slower songs in their catalog of around 130 songs, and they have been around for almost 11 years at this point. They tend to experiment with a lot of different genres, often times within the same song. They are mostly rock, or hard rock, but they do incorporate some metal, punk, jazz and blues elements among other genres into their music. Where they really shine is in their live performances, and they do have several official live videos on their channel.

Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that. •April Fools Day 2019 As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful. •The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis (after playing less than 10 yrs) •There is no "I" in BANDMAID. Well ok there is one "I" but my point is the songs are written by BandMaid. Not just Kanami Tono. The highly innovative bass and drum lines are created by Akane and MISA. There are no George songs and John&Paul songs. There are only BandMaid songs. •10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. It was hard for me to believe once I found out about the maid outfits myself, because how is the best band I heard in such a long time be a bunch of tiny Japanese women with insane talent and yet a sense of humor? Their influences are very widespread, ranging from a couple Japanese pop singers to Deep Purple to Santana to Maxim the Hormone, a japanese nu-metal/punk/ska/rap/etc. band. Also, you need not worry about copyright strikes. They never take down reaction videos. I suggest Hate live or Domination live (not mv) to get the full experience.

"Manners" is a little offbeat for the Maids, they tend to a more energetic tempo. It's one of my favorites though. There is an official live version of "Manners" that is quite frankly better than the original. I disagree with "The live version, quite frankly, is better". The energy is not there, the audio makes it sound like they are playing far away in that you can hear it but they are on another stage. I much prefer the video. Same with "Dice", i have yet to see a live performance of Dice that matches the video.

I have seen many commenters with that approach. In reality though, if it was just how you see it then I apologize if i took your words incorrectly. Speaking of opinion, I did not even mention Black Hole as that side of Unseen World has the few songs from Band Maid that I am not a fan off. That side has a couple of songs that are basically Akane playing as fast as she can and I like her fills better. I am not a musician so I do not know the technical terms but I love when the drums support the rest of the song instead of being the main instrument in them.

They're absolutely incredible live. Watch HATE? live from Yokahama Arena and you will have your socks blown off. Most people will tell you to watch DOMINATION live next but I always suggest HATE? or NO GOD live. You have only touched the surface of an amazing catalog of music and it's all good. Band Maid can play so many genres that they've actually really become a genre unto themselves. Watch more and dive into the pigeonhole, you actually understand that later if you follow them for any length of time. Have fun.
