Miku really is a genius. She started assembling the group based on the maid cafe concept, but realised when she got Kanami, Akane, and Misa together, that her voice quality wasn't good enough to front such great musicians. She got Saiki in as frontman, and started learning how to play rhythm guitar from scratch.

Band maid members are now in their mid to late twenties. the band was started by Miku in 2013 (rhythm guitarist and secondary vocalist). She worked for a maid cafe and one day she decided she wanted to make a hard rock band, which eventually landed with a full band. Their choice of style is obviously based on Miku's past profession, and as time went on they decided it would be best to have them modify the outfits to their own style to be most comfortable. At first their songs were made for them, but they have been doing it themselves the last few years. The other members are Saiki on vocals, Kanami on guitar, Misa on bass and Akane on drums.

Remember that Miku was a failed idol singer and actress. She was working at the maid cafe to make ends meet. She used to hear hard rock and metal while commuting to and from work. Then the idea of making a maid band came unto her. A Internet search and the rest is the matter that rock legends are made.

From what i understand Misa and Kanami were both session musicians for Idol groups and were so sick of that side of the business too. The thing that blows my mind is the fact that Miku couldn't play Guitar as the band formed. She was going to be the singer but realised she wasn't powerful enough and said she would be fine being a backing singer but Kanami wanted a Rythm guitarist so she didn't have to restrict herself which is why her Solo's get bigger and bigger as you follow their releases as Miku becomes more competent at covering for her. Miku literally learned how to play Rythm while being in the band.

No connection to baby metal, there really is no comparison. Band maid plays their own instruments. They play hard rock with the best of them. Saiki has one of the most amazing voices on the planet and does not sound like a chipmunk which is hard to find among J-Rock bands. They are incredibly talented and amazing live as you can see. Miku, the rythmn guitarist and other singer used to work at a Maid Café and got the idea to form a band playing hard rock while wearing Maid outfits. She found the amazing lead guitarist and songwriter Kanami from a video online and recruited her. Kanami just happened to know an incredible drummer named Akane and when she joined she suggested Misa for bass as she had played with her and gone to music school with her. They then found Saiki and the rest is history. They have been together around 5-6 years now. My favorite band by far. That's a bit unfair, there are lots of Japanese female fronted rock/metal bands that donot sound like a chipmunk. Fuki (Doll$boxx/Unluckymorpheus) and IMHO the best female singer in Japan. @@maximushaughton2404 actually it is a fair criticism. Babymetal is entertaining but just not in the same class with a hard rock band that writes, arranges and performs their OWN material. You cannot compare them unless you are one who somehow likes the Monkees more than the Beatles because that is the qualitative difference. Babymetal can't even have the group members they want. They are told what to do and how to do it. Band-Maid does what they want to do and they do it so damned well. I know. I just saw them last Monday night in LA. The band just flat out fucking rocks.

EEEErrrrr..... Robert you did read my reply didn't you?? The only time I bought up Babymetal was when I said I was a fan. The bit I was moaning about was saying that female rock/metal singers in Japan normaly sound like chipmunks. And I also hate it when people try and compare them, because they are 2 totaly different styles of bands. I am not one of the Babymetal can do no wrong crowd, because I am a cynical old git. I know the chipmunk bit was aimed at Babymetal, because of Yui and Moa and I don't disagree with that, esp when you speed them up a bit, but it was unfair to say that all the others are like that, so I gave some examples, and there are more I could of named. Yes I know Band-Maid rock I have seen them live 3 times and missed a 4th because they were playing in the south of Japan when I was in Tokyo seeing other bands.

Just saw Band Maid live in Dallas. Any video you see, does not do the band justice. They are great. Even some who attended the BabyMetal show 5 days before Band Maid stated, "Band Maid blew BabyMetal away! 12 songs from BabyMetal vs 23 songs from Band Maid."

There is some fan crossover between Band-Maid and Babymetal. Members of the Kami band and Band-Maid have hung out together it seems, from pictures that have been posted. Kanami had a birthday recently and got some twitter messages from some of the Kami band. Other than that comparing them would be like comparing the The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. A quote from Miku in an old interview “We don’t feel that we are rivals, we have huge respect for Babymetal. To see a Japanese act work so hard and be recognized outside of Japan by so many respected musicians and fans - it’s amazing. We can only hope that one day our determination gets us anywhere near that level of recognition.”

There is actually tons of respect in Japan between artists. The only real comparison between the two bands is the Kawaii/ Lolita type look. I’ve just recently gotten in to Band-Maid and I’m seriously impressed. But like I said, if the artists work hard and dedicate themselves to the craft, other Japanese artist will respect you. I personally think both bands or on the verge of big things within the next year. Band-Maid is ready to hit international super stardom and Babymetal, after all the turmoil they’ve been through over the last year and a half or so, is rising like a Phoenix. Both bands are blowing up KZbin right now. Huge respect to both bands.

@@guitarwreck9004 If you mean their guitar tech usually standing stage left (house right)... yeah, he's a busy dude with heavy responsibilities and skills. He's also mixing some of Kanami's stuff on his own mini console. I believe they also bring their own mixer operating the house PA. I was standing in front of him and he had his hands full. I met the other very nice gentleman (didn't get his name) standing stage right who mainly takes care of MISA and Akane. I counted what I believe to be eight staff / roadies but there could be more or less.

If you wondering what happened to Rock and Rol , its alive and well in the hands of 5 extraordinarily talented and beautiful ladies from Japan. All of them are professionally trained and have industry experience. They struggled in the beginning and were thinking of breaking up. But one day they checked KZbin and saw their MV/song Thrill (First MV) had 3 million views, at first thinking it was hacked, it wasn't. They are now finishing up their World Tour in LA (their 4th, I think) playing small venues. I would like to see them be an opening act for a major band, but they are handicapped because they are so good I think the major bands are afraid of them. Would you to follow them on stage? Try Thrill (1st MV), Dice (live), Puzzle (live), to start off with, there are no bad ones.

Miku (rhythm guitar and back-up vocals) is the oldest at 26 years old and was actually a former J-pop idol before deciding to start up her own band. She knew Kanami (lead guitarist) from her guitar covers on the internet. Kanami called up Akane (drummer) who knew Misa (bassist) and that was the initial line-up for the band. They did a few shows before deciding that they needed another vocalist, which led to them auditioning Saiki (lead vocalist). They tend to lean more towards hard rock and pop, but with some impressive instrumental chops. Their heavier stuff are songs like "Dice", "Domination", "Don't Tell Me" and "Choose Me". Their bassist Misa trades solos with their lead guitarist Kanami during their live shows, so don't miss out on that.

Minor correction: BABYMETAL *does* have live instrumental as well, they have a whole back band known as “kami-band” who are VERY skilled, they just don’t get the spotlight. But the two really shouldn’t be compared, they are totally different genres and entities in every respect except for their country of origin.

No ties other than nationality. Formed by Miku the rhythm guitarist in 2013. She used to work in a Maid Cafe and thought it would be interesting to have a cute Maid image playing hard rock. Kanami the lead guitarist writes most of the music and Miku writes most of the lyrics. They tour extensively in the west and are currently ripping it up in the in US. Saw them live in London last November and lost my heart to these ladies. One of the most exciting gigs I've ever been to. I have never followed non-English speaking musicians before this band yet I have nearly all their albums and love their music and I don't even understand Japanese. So there is something special about the ladies and their music that surpasses the language barrier and calls to all of us.

Others will tell you to just do the live but by watching the video first you hear a great song and then when you watch the live you see a great performance. React to "Secret My Lips" then "Secret Maiko Lips" (by 'Band MAIKO') . The reason for this is "Secret My Lips" is a Band-MAID song. For April Fools Day of 2018 Band Maid announced they were changing their name to Band MAIKO and going with a different approach. "Secret Maiko Lips" is the result of that. Again watching Secret my Lips first allows you appreciate what they do with "Secret MAIKO Lips" To be perfectly honest, you can not go wrong no matter what song you react to. I would just like to emphasize this, many in this thread will say ignore the music videos and only watch the live stuff but the music videos are very good,especially DICE, Choose Me and Thrill.

Miku is the oldest and leader of the band. She plays guitar and vocals. Saiki is the youngest and the leadsinger. Misa is the awesome bassist. Akane is the drummer. Kanami is Santana-esq lead guitarist. They vary in ages from 23-29. Miku used to be an idol in her early teens. Has this thing with pigeons andaleays ends her sentences with Po, which really annoys Saiki. They all contribute with writing their own songs. They have a great sense of humor as every year they dress up as Geisha for April Fools Day and are called Band Maiko. The songs are tongue in cheek, extremely comical lyrics, bit naughty, and sung seriously. There are a couple songs out with translations.

So yeah, Babymetal is a completely different thing: pop stars that sing to metal music played by a separate band (see also: Ladybaby). Band-Maid is an actual rock group of all women musicians. The Maid thing was because the rhythm guitarist and backup singer who started the band used to work in a maid cafe (it's a thing in Japan) and thought it'd be funny to have people dressed like that playing hard rock/metal music. They went viral with their music video for their first single, Thrill, and developed a pretty large overseas fanbase so they've started internationally touring and adding more crowd-interaction that doesn't require Japanese language (like the chorus of this song with it's "Yeah"s and such). I saw them live last weekend during their American tour and they kick just as much ass live and are quite funny even with very limited English. If you're looking for live youtube stuff, the highest quality stuff you're going to find is off their live DVDs (like that one) and I'd recommend Take Me Higher if you want to see just how skilled their guitarist and bassist are, or Moratorium for what is probably their best live experience (the crowd went absolutely fucking ballistic for that song in the show I went to). For music videos, DICE, Non-Fiction Days, and DOMINATION are probably my favorites. Shout out to Don't Let Me Down for being entirely in English, though, if you want to know the lyrics.

Band Maid as a group has no direct professional ties to Babymetal. Completely different agencies. But, no one can overlook the attention Babymetal has brought to Japanese Music over the last decade and some of that attention went to several other groups. Band Maid, in particular, seems to be gaining the most from the added attention as the world turns its ear to the sounds coming out of Japan. This does not, in any way, detract from the sheer will these Ladies have put forth in building their own careers with flat out AWSOME musicianship, stage performances and very well produced music videos. BABYMETAL is a fully calculated idol project by a public company. It is completely controlled by many experts selected by the producer Mr. Kobayashi. SU and MOA, and the Avengers and the backup band perform according to their instructions. Girls are not even allowed to talk on stage and social media. Now that the girls have grown up, he is trying to get them out of their idol image. On the other hand, Band-Maid are free to do what they like. They make and arrange songs by themselves and decide the design of costumes. They act freely on the stage and talk and play as they please. By the way, in the early days, the songs were composed by outside staff, but after the song called "Alone" the company recognized their abilities and allowed them to write their own songs. And many BABYMETAL fans are also Band-Maid fans. I think it's because the two bands are totally different and each of them gives us a different pleasure.. Come to think of it, Band-Maide girls get along well with the "KAMI BAND" known as the main backup band for BABYMETAL, and they respect them as masters.

I found Band-Maid through youtube over 2 years ago and listen to them every day since. Absolutely the best band I have heard in the past 20 years. Tons of people have left great info, but I have not seen anyone say that Miku only started learning guitar in early 2014. Also any of their songs 2016 or earlier were not written by themselves. "Alone" was their first song approved by their label and most of their songs since them are mostly written by Kanami with help from others while Miku does most of the lyrics.

Great video, it's always nice to see new people discovering Band-Maid. Since you're a big bass fan, I'd recommend the song Dice next. To answer your questions, Saiki, the vocalist is 25, Miku, the rhythm guitarist is 27 and the other three haven't revealed their ages. They formed in 2013 when Miku, who had formerly been part of a pop idol trio called Lil Cumin, decided that she wanted to play heavier music. She came up with the maid concept because she wanted to mix the cute image of maids with the coolness of hard rock. Miku then found Kanami, the lead guitarist, on KZbin. Kanami knew Akane, the drummer, from playing together in a previous project and Akane knew Misa, the bassist from a music school that they both attended. It was then decided that Miku's voice didn't quite fit heavier music so they auditioned vocalists and found Saiki. They then proceeded to put out three mini-albums on Platinum Passport (Maid In Japan, New Beginnings and Brand New Maid) with all but one song on all three of them being written by outside songwriters. Then, they were picked up by Nippon Crown and have since released two full-length albums (Just Bring It and World Domination) with the band writing all but 4 songs on the Just Bring It and writing all of the songs on World Domination, with outside co-writers working on three songs. Their next album, Conqueror, is due to be released on December 11th. By the way, the only sort of 'connection' that they have with Babymetal is that they're both all-female, Japanese acts who play heavy music and there's some overlap among their fans.

They played this at the Mercury Lounge on their US tour last weekend, with a new intro (perhaps my favorite intro to this one thus far). If you can find it, there's a fan-shot video of it. These ladies are definitely older than BABYMETAL, with their lead vocalist, Saiki, being the youngest, at 25. (Yes, their ages are a bit hard to find, and only Miku's [their rhythm guitarist, the pigeon queen], and Saiki's [THE queen] being publicly available [yet, again, hard to find].) They formed in 2013, when Miku got the idea while working in a maid cafe. She found Kanami (aka Kanamincho [or Mincho, for short]) on KZbin, contacted her, who then contacted Akane, their drummer, who she had worked with previously as a singer-songwriter, who then contacted MISA, their badass bassist (I mean, this isn't even her best work [check out fancam videos of "Don't Be Long" from their US tour, or their instrumental cover of "Higher Ground" [in the style of the Red Hot Chili Peppers] during soundcheck for Summer Sonic this year, or even "Moratorium" live), who she had gone to music school with. That was going to be it, until Miku got the idea to bring in a second vocalist. That's when Saiki came into the picture, through auditions with their agency. They continued in a "Suite Sister Mary", "Home Again", Lacuna Coil- esque two-vocalist, plus guitar, bass, and drums setup, until Akane (who, at that time, was the leader of the group) put her foot down and demanded Miku learn guitar. Miku still sings leads on one or two songs an album, but lead vocal duties mostly go to Saiki. They've put out five albums (Maid in Japan [the title being a play on the Deep Purple live album, Made in Japan], New Beginning, Brand New Maid, Just Bring it, and World Domination [which this song is off of]), one EP (eponymous, under the name BAND-MAIKO), several singles, and have a sixth album (entitled Conqueror) coming out in mid-December.

Dice is great, but there's no real pro-quality video of it, just the official video (but it's still terrific). For live, Moratorium, Puzzle, Freedom, Alone, Secret My Lips, Dont You Tell Me, Take Me Higher... there are just so many. They are not a band who have the usual 4-5 "big" songs, just about 25 or so on the same level as the one you've just watched. That one gets recommended because of the intro, although they often add extras to the intros of their songs live.

Great first reaction Drew and you'll discovery that the first feeling of amazement will stay with you the more you listen to them. The language stops being an issue after awhile. I discovered them about a year ago through Babymetal. The mix on all their songs is really great, you can hear all the girls up front and clear. Their live YT videos are outstanding. One think I've noticed after listening to a lot of their stuff is that while all these ladies are so really good, for me the drummer (Akane) is what sets this band apart from a lot of other rock bands - I'd put her on the same level with Ringo, in that she is the perfect drummer for their music, she is the foundation of this towering edifice of talent. From Band-Maid I also was introduced to a lot of other Japanese rock and metal groups that puts Western music to shame.

Totally agreed, for years before these phenomenal ladies I was a big advocate of Boris, Mono and Envy (all different genres of course) but the depths of Japanese rock and metal is insurmountable. And then tere is the whole Japanese shoegaze scene with some amazing artists. For me personally, after decades of involvement with heavy rock and metal music, I can genuinely say without any gimmicks, pretences or pomp that Band Maid is the most important and awesome band of the this century. Less interruptions, please. They formed in 2013. No connection to BabyMetal, except there's usually a surprised reaction to both. BAND-MAID are more Hard Rock than Metal, though they have Metal influences. Their break out Music Video was 'Thrill. But this video came from their Zepp Tokyo LIVE concert where they had a multi camera shoot and direct from the board sound. Just about any song from this show is awesome. A couple of stand outs are 'Take Me Higher' and 'Don't You Tell Me' because of the Battles between MISA on bass and Kanami on guitar. Other Music Videos worth checking out are as their April Fools persona, BAND-MAIKO. Miku formed the band after working in a Maid Cafe', hence the Maid theme and play on BAND-AID brand bandages. She switched from lead to backup vocals and learned to play rhythm guitar. Akane the drummer came from Music School, and she suggested MISA ,a bassist she had played with. Miku found Kanami online from videos. Saiki, who worked for the same agency was enlisted as another vocalist to complete the band. She wasn't told they would be in maid uniforms initially, just that they would be playing hard rock in cute costumes. She immediately ditched the apron, and became the band's arbiter of what's cool and what isn't. Kanami is the Airhead of the group, and she really thinks Saiki is just the coolest. Akane was voted to be the band's leader, since she's the most "normal" of the group, though Miku is still speaks for the band because of her energetic and outgoing personality. Because her last name means little pigeon, and pigeons in Japan say Kurupo instead of cooing, she ends her sentences with Po a lot. MISA though not the Ice Queen that Saiki is, is still very reserved, and also only wears black. Her charm point is drinking alcohol. Her motto is "Alcohol Is Necessary." Akane's charm point is eating a lot. She often challenges MISA to eating contests.

Suzuka from Babymetal will be 22(edit) in December and Moa just turned 20. The girls from Band-Maid are roughly 24-28(Miku Oct 1991). The bands are not related as Babymetal was a manufactured idol group while Band-Maid formed organically in 2013 when rhythm guitarist/singer Miku Kobato (real name Mika Noguchi) put the band together herself, first with lead guitarist Kanami Tono, who herself recruited drummer Akane Hirose. Akane brought in bassist MISA who she knew from music school. Lead singer Saiki Atsumi was brought in later when Miku realized the band needed a more powerful singer and she then learned to play the guitar with the tutelage of Kanami.

Suzuka will be 22. Her birth year was 1997. And Band-Maid is not quite as organically grown as you might think. Miku was working at Noodles Cafe which was setup by Platinum Passport and staffed with idols signed with them like Miku was. And Band-Maid is signed with Platinum Passport. They once had another act where they were all airline crew and the audiences members were their "passengers".

@@rakjr6 that's wrong, miku was at the same management company as the idol group Passpo was at the time. Miku's idol group Lil Cummins did not take off. Only did one EP. So she was still working at the cafe and thought of an idea of cute maids that make hard rock music. She searched the internet to find a guitarist name kanami (who was posting cover songs), then kanami pulled in akane, then pulled in misa, then auditioned saiki. Miku put the band together by herself. So it was organically done by her. Only thing was that she had ties to the management company she was in. The management company did not put the band together for her. So the whole band ended up working with that company. The band didn't know how to play hard rock music in the beginning, song writers were brought in by the company to write songs for them for two or three Ep even though kanami is a songwriter/composer. They rejected lots of kanami's composed music but now under new label the band has control of the music. They work very hard to get to where they are now. They have interviews about them how they got together on KZbin.

You may want to check out SCANDAL another all female group who play their own instruments! These are older than Baby Metal or Band Maid starting in in 2006 as high school girls! They started as heavy rock, but now are more pop-rock based! check out "Shojo S" which was used as an opening song for the anime BLEACH.

Yep definitely. 1st song I heard was Awanai tsumorino genki dene, 2nd was Doll (which was their breakthrough in Japan) and I was sold. They were my 1st concert of a Japanese band I went to. 2nd band was Band-Maid btw.

Thanks for reacting, Baby Metal and Band Maid have three main things in common, they are all Japanese, they are Female and they are exceptionally good at what they do. I am not a Baby Metal fan but you can't deny the talent they possess the same way you can't deny Band Maid's. You can like more than one band and there is no need to compare them, just enjoy the music and have fun.

Japan have a lot, really a lot of bands and groups. Babymetal is a "band" produced and formed by a company, in this case AMUSE. A producer comes with the concept, they try and if they success then the company provide songs writers, composers, musics... all. Babymetal, Perfume and others groups are formed that way There´s also a lot of groups formed "the usual way". A group of friends make a band, sometimes another people joins in and get a contract with a record label like happens in the west. Only point in common with babymetal is "they are girls" and "they are japanese", nothing more really. In Band Maid, Akane (drums) and MISA (bass and this isn´t his real name) attend to the same music college: Tokyo music school, a very prestigious music school in Japan with a very high level o excellence. Kanami is also a very talented musician. In Japan a lot of people lean to play an instrument in school. And yes, is sometimes a little difficult to know the age of a japanese at first looks. Try sometime a very good punk/rock band called "Shonen Knife", also all female and also from Japan. They starts in the 1981 and still active (and touring). The lead singer is now 58... no joke kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5fWgKKYbLCDmbs Japan have really a lot of good bands. From pop to rock, metal... everything you can imagine. But they have they own market, near 100 million people and record labels don´t seems to have a lot of interest in overseas market. Btw, they have 5 albums and starts in 2013. First album is difficult to buy in Japan in 1st press, it´s very expensive. Y try near a year ago to buy it while i was in Japan and the price was about 230 €. The second press only 17 €

Well, Kobayashi Key the producer "discover" her, but she was know in Sakura Gakuin for her powerful voice. Kobayashi-san is a metal fan, and particularly an X-Japan fan. For this reason there´s a lot of references to X-Japan in Babymetal. Kobayashi-san thinks about this and how her voice must be suited for metal, and bet on it. In the early stages of babymetal, they have near cero support from AMUSE but when the first songs gained thousands of KZbin likes, this changes quickly. Babymetal was a bet, and Kobayashi wins Btw, Yoshiki also likes babymetal

Here is even a little more... curious Babymetal born as the "Sakura Gakuin heavy music club" or something like that. Suzuka, Yui and Moa have a contract with AMUSE, who is also the producer of "Sakura Gakuin", an idol program (still active) who mimics a secondary japanese school, and in Japan there´s compulsory in a lot of junior high school to learn to play an instrument, so there´s a lot of music clubs. In the same way, in Sakura Gakuin as a program that works about music, this was an experiment. It´s normal in those programs that when a girl (or boy) finish secondary school (the real one) he or she is "graduated". This is short words means... fired. You have got a few years learning in the idol program, at the end the ones with talent can got a new contract, the others can follow they way outside this world. Suzuka got a new contract with Babymetal when she reach the graduation Her sister Himeka Nakamoto was in the group Nogizaka46, and when she graduated goes to the Waseda University, graduated and i think she is still working in this university. The system is easy... if you´re good, you can for a few years learn, study and also work as an idol. At the end some of them have talent, others not. (or luck)

Silent, mysterious, barefoot on stage, drinks whisky. Beautiful, silent assassin. Akane Hirose (drums) - Misa's school mate at TSM, plays piano, trombone and drums. Eats a lot. A goofball, even jumps onto a crowd at a friend's concert. Eats a lot. She is our beast, an amazing drummer. You see her eating in few of their MV's and lots of photos of her eating. Saiki Atsume (vocal) - Used to be a solo singer/dancer then Miku felt they needed more fitting voice for rock, auditioned and accepted first time. Ice Queen, Tsundere, Hot, smart and has final say on the songs. This band is crazy talented. And they do not have a bad song. All are either good, great, to awesome. They are one of the best live bands in the world bar none.

Nice react Drew. In Japan there is a thing known as "maid cafes". In these cafés, waitresses dress in maid costumes act as servants, and treat customers as masters (and mistresses) in a private home, rather than as café patrons. Singer/guitarist Miku Kobato worked in one and thought it would be cool to form a band based on the maid theme and the rest is history and why they are in maid outfits. Baby Metal and Band Maid are two entirely different types of bands. You can't really compare the two. Band Maid has not achieved anywhere the success of Baby Metal and in interviews has commented that they admire Baby Metal for what they have accomplished. Whether or not Band Maid can draw Baby Metal size crowds is yet to be seen. Their current US tour is a good beginning for them.

I don't know I think Band-maid can pull it of I mean they played large crowds in Tokyo they have sold out all of their shows two years in a row. Men and women come to see this band not for the girls well at least not me. I like their playing. While babymetal the focus is on the girls since they are an idol band. Idols well always garner more attention than niche band. Like say Mary's blood, unlucky morpheus or even band-maid. Hell maximum the hormone is really well known and they still cannot amass gigantic crowds in Japan. Like idol pop groups. I mean this why akb48 is still always topping number 1 on the charts well this year it was perfume which is not a idol group but they are their own identity. Anyway point being idols well always pull more crowd. Just how the model is. I mean that is Motown stuff and bubblegum pop did so well. Here from 60s to 90s. Till people realized the generic sound. Which has started to make.wave in Japan. Kids are starting pay more attention in what they choose to listen. Case in point why this year a pop group who is not an idol topped 10 this year and last year.

James BabyMetal is pulling in larger crowds in the US also. In Los Angeles Band Maid closed their tour at a place that holds 800. BabyMetal will play before 17,500 at the Forum in Los Angeles. Like The Warning they are a great club band but may not have the ability to step up to fill 20,000+ arenas Only time will tell.

Others have explained the band's background, so I'll just content myself with seconding the suggestion that you should react to their live performance of Don't You Tell Me next. Just to mention that there's a decent sprinking of English in pretty much all of their songs (indeed there's one all in English - Don't Let Me Down - but the band didn't write the very risqué lyrics to that song), but sometimes you have to listen hard for it.

While Babymetal is very entertaining they are not even close to being in the same league with Band-Maid. That would be like comparing the Monkees to the Beatles. And having seen Band-Maid this last Monday night in Echo Park l have fallen even deeper in love with the very best hard rock band working anywhere on the planet today. Akane and Kanami were on fire and l walked out of the show feeling like l had witnessed something very special. I will be seeing these incredibly talented musicians again at my very next opportunity. BabyMetal has more accomplishments and awards than Band Maid by far. BabyMetal has won 32 international metal awards while Band Maid has won 1. The largest crowd to see Band-Maid is 6,000. The largest crowd to see BabyMetal is 55,000 not counting festivals. Only a couple of current groups can fill the Tokyo Dome, Baby Metal and Black Pink. BabyMetal has appeared on the US Billboard top 40 which no Japanese band has done for 50 years. If anyone is not the in the same league Band-Maid is lagging BabyMetal in almost ever category. Even Band Maid has admitted they admire what BabyMetal has accomplished and the way they have performed with other famous groups. BabyMetal is doing something that is not being done at any level of music while you can find any number of Japanese bands similar to Band-Maid.

@@LouieGrandie well it's going to take BANDMAID some time but they will get there just like babymetal. Maybe BANDMAID needs bunch of back tracks to get recognition like Babymetal then use a live band later. Wait BANDMAID can't do that, they are a live band already. I think they need connections through a big music corporate world. They've been doing tours on their own and few festivals here and there. Always a one man show. I think for them to open up for another band would be intimidating for other bands because they play 20 plus songs (not shitty ones either) and they do make an effort to interact with the audiences, also. Who cares if they win an award or not. Rush, led zeppelin, and few more super groups from the 70's win awards??????maybe, but never the Grammys. Bandmaid do stick out more from other Japanese rock groups. Musicianship and showmanship both exceed expectations through the roof on live performances. They are truly a pure rock band. They are in league of their own which means babymetal is not in the same league. Now, if Passcode and ladybaby tour with babymetal, kami band will be very busy (if allow to perform). Passcode and ladybaby don't use back up bands any more but backing tracks only. Plus they both have growlers. That would be an awesome show.

Totally different genre's …. one is a song and dance act (with children) and a backing band... the other is a rock and roll band (probably the finest rock musicians on the planet... if you don't mind me saying so :). … it will become apparent to you soon … I'd suggest any song by Band-Maid will prove me out … my favorite would be Moratorium … nah … any Band-Maid song is my favorite.
