Thanks for this one. I have said from the beginning that Kanami was not given the recognition that she deserves. She is entitled to being recognized as one of the best young guitarists of this era. Her style is like no other and her sense of timing is nearly perfect. She knows just what a song needs from her to make it perfect. She is no show off or self centered when it comes to her music. But she can play with the best that ever was.

@@RyanMear Well, Ryan, I could have said it this way: Three ways one can compare Band-Maid with all other rock groups: 1) Song Production -- Are there few "B" songs in a large catalog of consistently good to great songs? Are they prolific writers producing about an album per year with current, worldwide touring schedules and events? 2) Musicianship -- Are they all around accomplished musicians that write their individual parts to support the song? Does their playing as well as the entire band sound and performance create a synergy that moves you and creates a sense of joy? 3) Members -- Are their personalities and appearance on and off stage engaging, inspiring, and genuine? Do they and their media outlets consistently interact with and support their fans? Are their products unique, of high quality, and easily available? One reason Band-Maid fans love the Maids is because they excel in each one of these criteria. Of course, there's another vitally important factor that creates a fandom: the individual connection. And that's something no one can concoct, buy or predict. 😆

When Saiki first returned to action after her vocal cord surgery in 2017, they had already been brainstorming how to lighten her effort, especially during her recovery period (she came back in less than a month - yikes). One of several important things they did was for Miku to periodically come in and sing some parts of the song in Saiki's place, providing a couple of lines or a verse for Saiki to rest momentarily. "Seamless" was the word that hit me for that too. If I hadn't seen it in the live videos of that time (September through the end of December 2017), I would not have known the shift ever happened, but there it was. Miku doesn't have the vocal power and some other qualities that Saiki does, but she is amazingly versatile and accurate - a delightful singer in her own right. I am very thankful we have both in the same awesome band.

Another great song, glad you have that live Zepp Tokyo to present these songs live - since there is no MV. You know what is almost criminal? That THIS particular show is not on a stand alone BluRay/DVD but part of a (now) very expensive special edition box of the single "Start Over" (here is a very very different song out of the Band-Maid catalogue... still love it though)... The live BluRay/DVD they released in 2020 is awesome but for me there are a few things that makes it not as good as this one - the guitar sound and the fact that in this one they have the full concert and on the 2020 live BluRay/DVD, they took off the acoustic songs that were played. Still, my fav overall sound is the live from 2017 at Shinkiba Studio Coast (the best "Play" version, "Matchless Gum", etc). Anyway, everything is so good in this live and Saiki is my fav singer these days. Thumbs up!

As others have mentioned, the intro to the first mini solo in "Domination" is the riff you heard at the beginning of the "SPIRIT!" solo. The main solo to "Domination" is almost a note for note copy of the solo from "Secret my lips/Secret MAIKO lips". Also on this album is a song called "Carry on living", it has a riff that Kanami reused for the beginning of "Blooming". My thoughts on it are she is WAY to prolific & talented of a song writer for it NOT to be intentional... I think it's "call backs" meant to connect all the material, like a "Band-Maid Extended Universe" type of thing, lol.

That is an exciting and perceptive comment regarding Kanami and Band-Maid (since all the members have input). If Bach (yes, Johann Sebastian Bach) would reuse melodies and material from a single song in numerous compositions, and he is without a doubt one of the world's great composers. So why can't Kanami, who is fast becoming a leading modern-day composer in her own rights and to our benefit.
@robert-gillesmartineau12082 жыл бұрын
Ryan! Greetings! Sorry (I am not apologizing), I have this habit of re-visiting reactions (at least from a few reactors! LOL). The reason is that I am discovering some of their songs that are "ahead" of their evolution! Sorry again to repeat myself, but such pieces sound too much as a precursor to what they will offer in the near future, even if they proceed through at least three parallel genres of their own. Either they will keep throwing in different facets of their own at all times, or they will venture into different paths. It might well be something in between. Blimey! I love these ladies! On another note, I have rarely seen Saiki singing so "aggressively" all teeth bared in her most jazzy mode. Miku is also unusually leaving her cute image behind her then. Kanami is definitely going jazz along with Misa and Akane. I sense a carefully controlled aggression there, as if they wished no harm to their fans. At the same time they are being sly, crafty and intelligent! Why do I always start a novel about them!?LOL Take good care of yourself (ves)! Best regards, RobertGilles

Ryan, it is getting a bit chilly here in Shizuoka, in spite of the mildest climate in Japan after Okinawa and Japanese sake is getting better for it! We are actually going to shoot a new video on Monday on another local sake brewer. Wished that Band Maid could write a song on sake warming you up on a cold day! LOL Now, this song is definitely their most jazzy composition. It does take some bravery and talent to offer it to their fans who must constantly adjust and improve their hearing (now, that was nasty of me!), but in this case I entertain the suspicion that Kanami is fomenting something for the future and leading Misa and Akane into it! I do think that Saiki and Miku have the right vocal ability to follow that road someday. After all rock is a baby of jazz, ain't it? Mark my words, and if I leave this world before they start moving into a new genre (Band Maid Jazz Metal?), remember I noticed it! We all know Band-Maid had songs written for them and some even had some help arrangements wise from Mincho and we know they run the show since Alone but covering other's songs only happened a couple of times. Their best work in that small sample is MUCC's Honey which they literally made their own mostly thanks to Sai-chan's vocals. It has a wicked bass line from MISA that is very reminiscent of Dick Dale king of the surfer guitars. Wicked. Sacramento loves Band-Maid. Regards.

You still haven't reacted to: Dragon Cries About Us Wonderland glory About Us is awesome as well. You will once again be blown away by Misa.

Yep criminally is the good word… I have to say it is my least favorite from World Domination still a good song and better than everything you can hear on radio but this song doesn’t click with me 🤷♂️ A song I’d really like to see your reaction is Awkward (preferably the live version at Shinkiba). Keep up the good work 👍

Spirit is possibly one of my least favorite songs by Band-Maid. I don't know why but it just doesn't resonate with me. Also, is it just me or does the sound seem off? Seems like it is playing slower than it should.
