This is an interesting interview with Miku Kobato and Saiki from Massive Vol. 39 11/17/21 about their dream for Band-Maid to be made into an animation. Congratulations for their first animated MV - Unleash!!!!! Translation by t-shinji. See entire interview posted on reddit 07/03/22. Kobato: I came up with this idea. It must be interesting if the Band-Maid story is made into a film. Saiki: Ha ha ha! That’ll be embarrassing (laughs). Kobato: That’ll be a big deal, po. There are a lot of things we can’t show, so we have to do it a little cleanly in order to make it, po. Saiki: No, that wouldn’t be a documentary. Kobato: Right, we can’t make a documentary, po. It’s not something we can show to other people, po (laughs). Saiki: Because we’re probably pretty different from our image. Kobato: I think we would be better suited to an American comedy, po, when it comes to our vibe. - If so, how about rather making it into an animation? Kobato: Yes, po, that would be better. Saiki: Yeah, we want to be animated (laughs). Kobato: You know, there are works based on American comics, po. I think we might fit perfectly if we appear in those kinds of works, po. Saiki: Personally, I’d love it if we’re made into an Adult Swim animation on Cartoon Network. - That would be effective also as a part of your world domination strategy. Kobato: That’ll be nice, po. Saiki: Anyway I want us to be in the Adult Swim block! (laughs) Kobato: It looks like she’s already decided the block, po (laughs). We have to negociate with them directly. We’ve released anime-style drawings and illustrated posters so far, so it would be nice if we could make our animation come true as an extention of that, po. Saiki: That’s my dream, definitely. Animation is our dream, right? Kobato: It’s our dream, po! - Do you want to be animated rather than to be Hollywood actresses? Kobato: Of course, animation is better… Saiki: I want us to be animated! I know each of the girls is represented by a song but Thrill for Miku is really accurate and meaningful. She's just dancing with the guitar and not playing it . A very tenuous start for what is now one of the world's best bands.

I suspect it might have more to do with the shift to a white background in contrast to the darkness of the other four to support the MV's plot, but the symbolism you mention is definitely there even if it wasn't intended. Contrary to popular belief, though, there are numerous shots where Miku is clearly fretting chords, although AFAIK she didn't start playing guitar at gigs until a good bit after this video.

@@stevehall5128 yes I think she started playing on the recordings before she started playing live so it is her when you listen to the music but it's still pretty miraculous especially when you consider that while they were waiting for recognition from fans and industry it was all her doing the talking and seemed to have the most belief. The others were already very talented and are even more talented now but miku is the one that made it happen and ofcourse went on to be quite a good guitarist herself.

@@stevehall5128 that's interesting but I guess not totally unexpected because she can probably get the recording done faster and more cheaply. It seems easier to pick Miku out when they are playing live now I used to really struggle to identify what was her I wonder if they have turned her up a bit or maybe I've just turned my ears up.

@@stephenchigwidden7504 I've been learning some parts from the score books and which parts each of them play live can vary significantly from the "Guitar 1" and "Guitar 2" in the score. It sounds from a few remarks in interviews like maybe Kanami has the guitar parts all worked out for the records but then will come up with a different arrangement and/or reassign some sections to make playing them live easier. But it does also seem she's giving Kobato more "lead-like" parts these days.

Aww I remember when you had trouble picking out the bass, now it's all "ohhhhh heck yes!" For such an upbeat and bouncy song at times, the verses are really aggressive and heavy, it's awesome

You are absolutely right, the animation is indeed 100% on point. For me, perhaps their best MV to date. With so many allusions to their personalities and a not so far-fetched storyline. Band-Maid of late has this certain phenomenon thing going regarding their more progy-punk hard rock and Anime written tunes. These songs are hard, complex and will totally grow on you like a thousand pound R&R leech. The Maids in this format are relentless and powerful. Their Covid-fighting MV and new battle gear is exciting, meaningful and classy! Unleash (or Sense) will, in my thinking, be their new opener for their upcoming tour. Nice reaction. Lots of story and timeline of the Maids in this MV. Said you want to see live. Now on red dit (BandMaid) there is the last concert (summer sonic) in 3 sections. Part 2 at 7 -49 is the start of Unleash..... very good (me-better than studio) but you may want to watch the whole concert (40 minute festival style)... lots of pretty little special moments that will entice you to be in the crowd whenever they get near you.Best.

@@MichaelNolen I don’t think some people are listening closely, maybe their distracted by the anime. This song is heavy in instrumentation. It checks all the boxes for a great hard rock song. I recommend everyone listen with good headphones and without the video. I think most will come around.

Band-Maid fans notice a lot of hidden clues in this video. The one that's most poignant to me is at 1:12 where Miku is shown (Alone) in the original 2015 video Thrill where she couldn't play guitar at that point and to reflect on how far she has come since then. Also At 1:32 Kanami with hearts around her when she's close with Saiki since every fan knows that Kanami is in love with Saiki.

BandMaid doesn't just throw a animation together, this animation has true meaning behind it. The band is showen doing thier own thing when the dark cloud swoops in smuggling them, "the cloud represents the plague of Covit". Thinking the worst was over, the band was set to play a concert but a secound wave it again, as the band stares aimlessly around wondering how many timed will this happen until they can be unleashed. In the end Miku is standing proud with her band telling us all their flag is planted , and they will be there when the time comes.

Hi Bisscute, I love your reactions I wanted to ask you if you can react to Dreamcatcher - Endless Night, It's a Korean K-pop girl group but they have a very unique sound in K-pop focused more on rock, metal, with J-rock influences, combined with pop, rap among other musical genres, it's a very complete and varied group. ... and if you like it you could react to their songs from their beginnings with the nightmare series (Chase me, Good Night Fly High (prequel), You and I, What, Piri and Breaking out), also the Dystopia series (Scream, Boca and Odd Eye), among others like Deja Vu, BEcause, Eclipse, and other B-side songs from their albums...
