Miku is an amazing lyricist. Their acoustic concert, which just ended on 3/25 sadly was amazing. An hour of them playing songs they rearranged for this performance that they released on Christmas Day in 2021. MISA is the bassist and, in my opinion, is one of the best rock and roll bassists playing currently. Her sense of timing, her style of playing, and her bass tone are incredibly distinctive and unique. She's my favorite musician in the world right now up there with the likes of Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters for example (RIP Taylor Hawkins).
@dragonmac12342 жыл бұрын
I agree about Misa, she is in my top five all time favourite bass players along with Geezer Butler, John Paul Jones, Steve Harris and John Entwistle. The grit and growl of her bass tone always puts a smile on my face. The assassin hits hard and fast :)

Great reaction, Bisscute! You are absolutely correct about MISA and the bass. She has a prominent place in all their songs. She isn't just a drone in the background but her playing is almost like a lead instrument throughout their songs.

Misa (bass) and Akane (drums - and my absolute favourite) are simply superb; the bedrock around which Mincho (lead guitar), Miku (rhythm guitar and vocal) and Saiki (lead vocal) revolve. Supremely talented individuals with the shared goal of serving one another to make Band-Maid the best band on the planet.

I love all your BAND MAID reactions. Thank you again for deciding to react. There's another great wink that Saiki does around the 0:37 mark of the official video for Bubble. I feel like she was really enjoying making that video because her presence in that video specifically just seems a bit happier and more flirty. Also, yes. It is typical for Japanese production to be more 'bass up front." And that is one of the great things about BAND MAID. MISA deserves to be heard. She's an amazing bassist. And for her lines to be good enough and clear enough for you to hear is just a testament to the mix as well as her talent. The back up vocalist and founder, Miku, is just so humble when it comes to showcasing the others' talent. She's most definitely a support player/singer. And that shows great musical maturity to step back out of the spotlight in order to make the whole group sound better.

Thanks so much, Bisscute! Misa (The Barefoot Assassin) is the bass player and she's INCREDIBLE! But, she has to be because the whole band is INCREDIBLE! You really can't pick a bad song to react to. Band-Maid is THAT GOOD. I'll toss some suggestions anyway that''ll highlight the range these ladies have: "Alone" - mv: This is the first song their label allowed the band to put on an album that was entirely written, arranged, and produced by the band. It's pop-punk done better....WAY better. Do you like great guitar solos and amazing drum patterns? "Wonderland" - live: A Saiki (lead vocals, control tower, charisma in planet loads) highlight. A jazzy mid-tempo builder. Just gorgeous. "Manners" - mv or live: The best pure rock song I've ever heard. It's one of their many masterpieces. If you choose the live version, buckle-up (seriously. Also, put a helmet on) because it's coupled with a little progressive punk ditty called "Black Hole" that'll knock your shoes AND socks off. "Blooming" - mv: Another masterpiece or tour de force or...whetever. I really don't know what genre this song fits neatly into, if any. This track was basically composed with Kanami (lead guitar, main composer and arranger, genius) coming up with the basic song structure/melody and assigning the rest of the band "homework" to write their parts. Kanami then pieced it all together, and it's UNBELIEVABLE! Well, that was a bit of a rant, wasn't it? Believe it or not, it's STILL just the tip of the iceberg that Miku (band founder, rythym guitar, second vocals, 810 year old pigeon, Po!) built. There's so much tasty goodness you have to discover and the ride is EPIC! Be well! 🕊

To be honest I prefer the hard rocking Band-Maid, but this quieter acoustic song is a nice change (although Akane not bashing the heck out of the drum kit looks a bit strange to me lol). This does showcase how comfortable they are playing together, and their skill with their respective instruments.

Thank you for reacting to Band-Maid the best unplugged acoustic band ever. I am greateful that I bought the long archive ticket to the Christmas day concert, I watched the consert 30-40 times until the ticket ran out on March 25th. The concert contained 14 songs and is the best acoustic unplugged concert I've ever seen, and I saw them all in the 90s when unplugged was a thing. Please react to anything you like from Band-Maid :-) They threw in a Jazz part just for good measure, Kanami played a cool lick before returning to the chorus. They are such good singers, all of them.

I agree, think you would like "About Us". What band makes a song about how much they miss performing for their fans during the pandemic. I think it says something that they are telling us in a song that they feel cut off us as much we feel cut off from them right now.

Nice reaction Bisscute! Yes these ladies are very diverse. They play many different styles. To me they have a jazzy/funky vibe to them. Misa and Akane are rhythmic masters indeed but you have yet to see what they are truly capable of. Anybody who says that Saiki can't sing either has issues or is a hater. I hate to use such a simplistic term but they are simple minded people so I guess it fits. There is a lot to discuss but we can chat about it during your livestream...which anybody who likes these reactions should check out and join in on the fun.

Since this was a show that debuted on Christmas, the maids dressed as reindeer - sort of - with MISA in red because she's Rudolph. If you like seeing B-M out of the maid outfits, there are two videos from them under the name BAND-MAIKO. A maiko (pronounced "my-koh") is an apprentice geisha. BAND-MAIKO came about when, in 2018, BAND-MAID said they were changing their band name, their individual names, their look, and their sound. They were going to be known as BAND-MAIKO, dress as maiko with the oshiroi (white and red face paint), and incorporate traditional Japanese instruments (there's a word for that . . .) into their sound. They backed up all this with a music video for "Secret Maiko Lips," a remix of their song "Secret My Lips." All of this was an obvious April Fool's joke, but the response was so positive that in 2019, they released a BAND-MAIKO mini-album and a second music video of a 100% original song, "Gion-cho." Sadly, that's the last we've heard from BAND-MAIKo. Here's a link to both "Secret My Lips" and "Secret Maiko Lips." Yeah bass can kinda get buried a lot, especially in rock music! Often the guitars are the main instrument, and their sound is heavy and bassy too, so the actual bass gets kinda buried behind the guitars and the bass drum. But Misa gets to do a lot of interesting stuff instead of following the guitar parts, and the band makes space for it, so it's way easier to hear what she's doing - especially live! It's always nice to see people really enjoying a thing, there's so many songs you're gonna love! And yeah this video's up temporarily as a promo thing for the streaming concert, which ends soon. It's a shame, but it might be a licencing thing - a bunch of Japanese bands have had videos removed because of label shenanigans, including the maids. I think that's probably why people wanted you to react to this, while you still could! Maybe you're allowed to listen to the album version now ;)
