On August 17,for the first time,I attended a live performance of BAND-MAID at Namba hatch in Osaka. I have listened to many CD recordings in the past two years since I knew BAND-MAID,but the live sound was even more unimaginable.

Regarding Miku's guitar skill set, I remember reading about how many of AC/DC fans were in awe of the late rythm guitarist Malcolm Young, in that his rythm guitar playing was one of the best in the world of rock, laying a foundation that Angus would play off for all of his crazy riffs, A great ryhtm guiatrist accentuates the lead guitarist. Miku is excelling in this now,,,

It's been said that Miku is in the Top 50 of Live rhythm guitarists in the world currently. And I definitely agree with that.

Kanami has said that while she can fret her guitar much faster and accurately than Miku can, Miku can pick and strum much faster than she can. When Miku starts taking over more lead, I think she'll give Kanami a run for her money.

Yes for sure. I also admire Kanami selflessly encouraging Miku to learn new tricks, where in many bands ego and competition get in the way. Whole band is grooving along in sync. Deliciously done.

Not quite sure about that. Though Miku is strumming faster, I'm not sure if it's enough to make her better. Quite sure Kanami will do her best to make her better, but I'm not sure she will reach Tono level when it comes to tonal and technical quality. Mincho is just too good for that.

@@andreaspedersen3952 Of course she won't reach Mincho's level. To play an instrument well, you have to learn very early. This is not the case of Miku but she has made a lot of effort to achieve it. Praised be the pigeon. She's become a solid rhythm guitarist and that's great. And we can see that she likes to play it. She has 12 I believe. To see her without a guitar would seem incongruous to me.

And yes, Saiki also definitely contributes to the band and the songs in terms of letting others shine in the process of creating their music. In fact, all the maids are for the band and their music, and that's the beauty of BAND-MAID.

Misa's playing reminds me so much of Geezer. Her ability to interweave a counterpoint melody on the bass with Kanami's lead is on par with the iconic Geezer Butler/Tony Iommi duo. The end result is nothing short of masterpiece.

I read in an interview where Kanami said that since Miku didn't know how to play guitar well at first, MISA's parts were written to cover for her. SInce then, it's become a large portion of Band-Maid's sound. So I say that MISA play "Lead" Bass, while Miku will take over some of what could be bass parts. They all just fit together so well in their sonic assault on our eardrums, that I like soooo much.

I've been watching the Unseen World version with the hand closeups and yes, Miku does play much better than I thought she did. I was surprised by her facility, I'm actually hoping she cuts loose with an actual lead solo one of these days. One of my favorite Band Maid pieces. Misa is definitely not boring. Her variety within the song and interweaving with guitars is great.

I think this work was written by Kanami as an etude (study piece) for Miku, so Miku could practice her rhythm guitar skills in preparation for playing some other complex rhythm work. That would explain why Miku is doing more than usual. But of course, when would a Band-Maid instrumental not allow space for Misa and Kanami and Akane to flex their muscles too? Trust Kanami to write a study piece which turns out to be a great instrumental in its own right.

Is this from 2021 online okyu-ji? It's at gigs like this, when they can shine a little extra, that you really see how darn skilled they are. Somewhere I read that in the beginning Miku wasn't at all interested in playing guitar. But Kanami more or less forced her (in Kanami's kindest way) to start practicing. And look at Miku today! Now I am becoming more and more convinced that in 10 years time they will have two lead guitarists in the band. You can see that Miku really enjoys playing and has become confident enough to do solo parts. Guess the next step for Kanami is to create songs where they both do solos and sometimes do them together? Another thing I want to see more of is Misa tap on her base. There's a video of a gig in Europe where Misa and Kanami duel with taping. It sounded so darn cool and I really want more of it. Why not have Misa have a tap solo or intro? That would be amazing.

Miku's idea surely brought Kanami to her best destiny. Perhaps Kanami insisted on teaching her guitar out of feeling obliged to pay her back...as if bringing Akane (with MISA) to the party wasn't enough 😁

Miku has said in several interviews that she was rather lackadaisical about practice until she got her first Zemaitis. She said that holding that in her hand she realized that she had to put in the hours to become worthy of that guitar. That is when she went from 2-3 hours a week of practice/rehearsing to 3-4 hours a DAY.

MISA plays with a pick and slaps in the same song and changes from one to the other very quickly! From a radio interview - - (Chris): What amazed me most about your play style is the changing of picking to slapping, and then picking again so smoothly. Some bassists may throw their picks away to slap, but you use the same pick when you change from slapping to picking again, right? (Misa): No, I don't throw my pick away. I have become better as I practiced. For the recent 2-3 years, I haven't lost any pick. (Chris): Show me how. (Misa): I keep the pick with my index finger and palm. (Chris): Then you slap the bass with your thumb and middle finger? Can you show me how you play? (then Misa shows how) (Misa): Because I've been practicing these days, I can change faster than ever. (Chris): You are mixing them up! That's awesome! (Misa): I think anybody can do it if you practice. Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - Orange AB200B MKIII Amps When you watch Domination - replay it slowly and you will see MISA switch exactly as she explained it in the interview.

May I suggest another female Japanese band?..TRiDENT trio of talently ladies who rock!...The yalso have a fun side to some of their tracks..like in "Splash" and "DISINATION".....But also rock out in tracks like "Ambivilant" LIVE at Zepp and lastest track "Spoopy"...with slightly older track "Voltage"...They are the only other Japanese female rock band I listen to.
