Almost every shop has a band saw. If you have a band saw then you probably have a dull or broken saw blade. In this video I will show you how to make a fixture that will allow you to repair broken ones and how to make new ones from band saw stock.

Hi Joel. I finished doing the prep work on the saw blades yesterday. I hope to get the silver soldering (along with filming) done today. I'm taking April to the San Francisco airport (7 hour round trip) tomorrow so should get the editing done and upload by this weekend. Lots of info coming. Jere

I don't think I've seen a band saw in your shop. The silver soldering video will have a lot of info on how to prepare the blades. Jere

Yes, I have a 14-inch Rockwell-Delta bandsaw, and I use it extensively. I used to have a cheap import horizontal bandsaw, but it broke, and I got a nice cold saw to replace it.

Making your own blades may be easier than you thought. Keeping a sharp blade in the machine allows for more work to be done. Jere

Excellent video Jere. I’ve broken plenty of blades on both my wood & metal band saws but never tried to fix any of them. I’ve recently purchased a couple of carbide tipped blades and as pricey as those were I am definitely going to be using your technique in the future. Thanks for sharing!

I've tried to weld the blades on my little metal bandsaw, the first one broke in the original weld. Then I came across very cheap blades on sale that was just a little too long so cut them down and welded them with TIG. Ran for a bit but then cracked along the side of the weld so then rewelded and also annealed it after welding and that seemed to do the trick, it's now been holding up for longer than the previous attempts. I have this little torch style lighter and got it up to like 500°C, didn't start glowing but well past the normal purple blue annealing colors. I guess you don't have those problems with soldering.

Well done on the TIG welding of the blades. Peacock blue or purple (500c = 932f) is the range for drawing the temper for making springs. Annealing is around 1500f (depending on carbon content). I may include TIG welding a blade in my next video. Thanks for the idea. Jere
