Almost every shop has a band saw. If you have a band saw then you probably have a dull or broken saw blade. In this video I will show you how to make repairs to broken blades and how to make new blades from bulk stock. You will also see a different way to prepare the ends of the blades where they are to be joined.

Really much to learn in this video....... This surely is the better way to fuse a sawblade.... Thanks for taking the time to show how it should be done. How about bimetal blades ? Is it same procedure with high speed teeth.

As silver solder does not melt the parent material I would think the process would be the same.

I will from now on, make my cuts at an angle, makes so much sense, thanks. Well done.

make life easier on yourself and just cut the blades at 90 to the back of the blade and swarf a bevel angle of about 20 for the join😊

Jere - excellent video! I have silver soldered a few bandsaw blades years ago, but I hadn't thought of making the joint at an angle. Obviously, that's better in every way, and I love your technique of laying out the angle on both blades at the same time!

Morning Ron. I looked at a number of blade repair videos here on KZbin and saw none that make the repair the way I do. I thought that was odd. I do odd well. Hope you are having a good summer. Jere

Why are hacksaw blades that strong in comparison? Good job by the way.

Hacksaw blades are not required to flex around a wheel and therefore they are tempered differently. Jere

Your video was very informative and helpful, Jere, thank you. One thing you didn't talk about; is there a need to sand the solder smooth or just don't put too much solder on in the first place?

Tracy, The blade has to fit between the guides. If you take a look at the still of all the blades lined up, you will see that I made a light dusting of the blades at the joint. As I use just enough silver solder for the job the sanding is as much to remove the flux as to bring the blade width to it's original width. Don't forget to look at the back surface. there is a guide for the back also. Jere

The area around the weld must be annealed. Look on KZbin for "WELDING BAND SAW BLADES" not brazing or silver soldering.

I wonder if this works for sawmill band blades which can be anywhere from 1 1/4” to 1 1/2” wide

Hi Stephen, most saw mills will have a "sawyer" and will make his repairs how the "old guy" taught him. Jere

Whynot Spotweld Them Together?
@jerekirkpatrick2092
@jerekirkpatrick2092 11 күн бұрын
Spot welding requires overlapping the two parts. That would not fit through the guides.

A red nose would of been perfect. I built a bandsaw blade weld jig about 40 yrs ago very similar to yours. I like your technique with angled end to increase joint surface area.@@jerekirkpatrick2092

Jere, thanks for sharing with those of us who are always trying to learn something new. Off topic, but my nephew wants a go-kart. Would 1" 4140 .065 tube be adequate? There are ZERO decent videos on KZbin pertaining to tube selection for anything that is structural and moves... DOM, length, diameter, thickness, alloy....

Thanks for watching Shoot. The 35 Enduro carts I built back in 1973 were 1" x .083 if I remember correctly. But these were enduros which were sprung using lord mounts at the rear. If you are making a sprint cart, look at what's the latest design and material. Jere

My TIG welded blade using a little MIG wire as filler is still holding after I annealed it. So the annealing seem to have done the trick.

Well done. Adding some 70S6 to a 1075 blade is risky business. I was going to do a TIG repair video but thought better of it. There would be few of your skill level. Jere

@@jerekirkpatrick2092 It's not easy to weld that thin and not burn a big "hole" at the ends trying to weld at only 10-15 amps. Soldering is probably much easier.
@jerekirkpatrick2092
@jerekirkpatrick2092 Жыл бұрын
@@Henrik.Yngvesson When welding thin material like this, make a small tack on each end. Let it cool between tacks. Once everything is cool , run the bead. The extra mass at the ends may help. Jere
