Have you seen the cost of fast cards recently?
@pakwd. Жыл бұрын
how fast are you shooting that you need more than 200MB/s? because those cards are super cheap and if you're doing high burst rate photography why are you looking at an S5? The only appeal I can see is transfer speeds to your computer? @@maxvain

It completely depends on your needs and preferences; the color science is different between the two, as are the lens mounts. Feel free to reach out to sales@bhphoto.com if you'd like an expert opinion!

Thanks for this. Have a few S5 11 and wondering if the upgrade is worth it. Does your monitor display all functions on the camera LCD screen? I have a ninja for one of my Lumix s511 and it won't display things like focus peaking, audio levels etc. from the LCD screen. B&H told me the ninja monitors were not compatible in this way with the Lumix s5 11 ??

Couple of points here: "All-intra" is DEFINITELY higher quality than interframe-compressed (GOP-based) codecs, especially when the image is changing a lot from frame to frame (for example, shots of the ocean, leaves fluttering in the wind, active crowds, flashing lights, and so forth). Also, when editing GOP-based material, you must recompress it upon rendering even if you're doing cuts only; that means quality loss. About raw: ProRes Raw is "true" raw, whereas BlackMagic "raw" is not. BlackMagic admits this in their own documentation. BMD de-Bayers the data to work around Red's disgraceful patent on compressed raw (Red ripped off JPEG2000, also well-documented), which means with BlackMagic "raw" you can't change white balance with the flexibility of real raw. It may be a good codec, but it is not raw. A major question about these cameras is: How good or bad is the rolling shutter? This metric is more important than some people realize. It's not about "action" or "whip pans;" it's even more about any up-and-down movement of the camera, such as when walking hand-held or using a car mount. That's when the "jello" effect ruins shots. Meanwhile, that SSD handle is pretty cool! Oh yeah, another must-have for a camera: FULL-SIZED HDMI. Never tolerate micro-HDMI; it is insulting junk that WILL fail almost immediately. Another important feature this camera has: 4K crop mode. You need this if you want normal "cinematic" depth of field and field of view; those come from Super-35-sized images, AKA APS-C. "Full-frame" is the STILL-image standard, not the motion-picture standard.
@andersistbesser Жыл бұрын
You CAN change white balance with bm raw just like with any other raw format
@stokestack Жыл бұрын
@@andersistbesser I'm sure Resolve provides a color-balance-shifting function for it that may be quite useful, but according to the disclosures on the BMD site, their "raw" is deBayered to some extent. I encourage you to search on "blackmagic raw is debayered."

@@chrislee6650 Nobody said that all-I didn't require more data. Not sure who the rest of your tutorial was aimed at, but it serves to support my point about content with lots of motion suffering from interframe compression. On a side note, intraframe compression isn't necessarily JPEG. Redcode, for example, uses wavelet compression (but then again, Red did rip off JPEG2000... still from JPEG if you want to get picky).

Looking for a camera setup for professional vertical live streaming in night clubs and festivals (6-8 cams). Could the Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX be it and what multi-camera switcher or video production software do you recommend? Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Extreme ISO?

Hey guys! Great video once again! Kinda torn between the 2 cameras S5ii and S5iix - is it easier to live stream with the S5iix? Or do you think an s5ii would suffice? Mostly using the camera for music videos/green screen stuff and live streaming. And we're coming from a GH6...
@BandH11 ай бұрын
The Lumix S5ii would suffice. One of the major differences is external recording. The Lumix S5iix will be able to record 10-Bit via USB. Reach out to one of our video experts, they will be able to help you pick out the camera that will best fits your production. Email sales@bhphoto.com

Great video. Thank you very much. I have a few questions: Panasonic Lumix S5IIX vs. S5II both have the same sensor? both have the same video quality? i just got a 5II (no X) no 6K auto focus also 180 150 FPS no auto focus at (X) also same? I would be grateful for your answers.
@BandH Жыл бұрын
Both the Lumix S5IIX and the S5II has the same sensor, 35.6 x 23.8 mm (Full-Frame) CMOS. Both cameras also records 6K30p 4:2:0 10-Bit video. The main differences between the two is the the Lumix S5IIX has more external recording modes and can record ProRes internally, the Lumix S5II can not.

What is “cinematic video”?
@RobbieSkadal Жыл бұрын
The age-old question that will never be clearly defined... I think a lot of people think "cinematic" means shallow depth of field with moody lighting (in a nutshell). Some people define "cinematic" as the type of camera movements featured. IMO.... "cinematic" is defined as whatever features and elements that help best communicate a clear visual story.
@stokestack Жыл бұрын
This brings up another point: "Full-frame" refers to 35mm STILL photos, not motion pictures. True "cinema" characteristcs for the modern history of film means Super35-sized images, AKA APS-C. Motion picture film runs VERTICALLY through the camera, so the images go across the film and not along it; this makes them smaller than still images, with greater depth of field. You want that greater depth of field, because people and cameras in movies are, well, MOVING... you can always tell when a noob has shot video on a full-frame camera because of all the out-of-focus imagery. That's why you should look for a camera that can shoot 4K Super-35-sized images, even if it has a full-frame sensor. This Panasonic, for example.

Cinematic video is when you use a lot of unnecessary RGB lights. 😂

As straight photography cameras go they're on par with any other brand sporting a Sony sensor. One thing to note for the Fuji people watching, once Lumix pull out a new camera, forget about getting new features via firmware updates for your current machine. They can't be bothered.
