Hi John thank goodness for people like you. You are a lifesaver/time saver like an intergalactic AudioLord. I brought a pair of H9 3rd Gens yesterday for half price and I’ve been sitting here for well over an hour trying to work out why I can’t unscrew the cap to see how the replacement battery works until I watched your review. Doh! Even though I’m disappointed about the non-replaceable battery I’m sure the battery is going to last for years anyway like my rubbish Beats have and they are still going since 2013 with daily use. When the H9 3 needs a new battery I’m sure I can just give it to B&O to service for a cost. So to all people who are disappointed by the non replaceable battery It will be fine because you will get your money’s worth from them anyway over the years. I’m sure a service and a new replacement battery after several years will not be too costly. The battery lasts for 25hrs on the daily so just plug in somewhere if it runs out on a long trip. The H9 3s are awesome by the way. I only got them yesterday so I’m still discovering all they can do but so far they are the best headphones I’ve ever owned. Because of the high quality metal I’m sure I will have them for years to come and finally sling my plastic wireless beats where they belong in the bin. Thanks so much John for your review

Intergalactic Audio Lord! I'm having that printed on my business cards now. I'm so glad I could help you and that you love your new H9. I've had my H9i for a couple of years now and they are still going strong with great battery life and the materials are still like new (partly because I keep them in the box when not in use, I like to keep my stuff nice!) I'm most glad that the Beats are in the bin, you're right.....that's where they belong! All the best John.

Bang & Olufsen of Manchester Hi John oh I so want to see your Audio lord business cards lol. so glad to hear your headphones are still going strong that’s most reassuring. I like to keep my things nice too and have brought a really smart hard case for them. I’ve had my H9s on all evening and I really do not want to take them off ever. They are so lovely the music sounds lush. I tried a few of your suggestions in your review. I listed to Gorilaz Melancholy Hill and Pink Floyd Time. All I can say is wow! They really are the best headphones and I love the fact you can change the sound on the app. I love a good deep base so I listened to some Reggae and drum and base this evening and I was not disappointed one little bit. The various sounds are so clear and the lyrics and vocals were outstanding also. I love the fact you can block out the world and just listen to the music. Looking forward to listening to them on the plane and tube to see how they drown everything out. Anyway I’m more than pleased and for half the price I have no complaints whatsoever. Beats? What’s beats? Oh overpriced pieces of plastic. Anyway Audio Lord All the very best to you and hope you have an awesome Christmas and cheers again for all your help.

It's so odd that there are hardly any reviews out for these specific headphones. It's either h9 1st gen or h9i. They seem like a great pair but I think manufacturers really mess up when they release product names with the same model number, as it really makes searching for the product (be it used or otherwise) and finding specific forum threads about it, very difficult. I hope they learn from this and just keep to upping the number for every time. Even calling them h9.5 would've been better! Thanks for the review

Good work sir!! The first video on these on the web. Very interesting. I have listened to the Bose, Sony, Sennheiser, Plantronics and some others and own some of them. I love my H7 - They are luxurious and silky sounding - they are like a treat to listen to my favourite songs through. THey hand;e base so well and they still retain the H6 level of separation and sound stage. What a standard to live up to. I thought the H9 were good but I somehow didn't find them to be as immersive as the H7. Must be my wonky ears haha!! The H7 has a few flaws including only connecting to one device at a time, which is one of the reasons they could never be my daily driver. They remain an extravagance but they are sooooo good. The H9 were handicapped by a very unimpressive noise cancelling system - at least that was my perception from my testing and reviews of others. The H9i had a significantly better ANC implementation with added intelligent features. They were, however, prohibitively expensive for me and I agree with you about the degradation of the sound quality when the ANC is turned on. I wanted to be converted but it just didn't happen. I opted for the Sennheiser in the end as my travelling headphones. I wonder if the H9 third gen will be able to tempt me away. Very intrigued, Great video as usual. 🔥🔥

Just got these as a free gift with my phone and was thinking I'd got a inferior model because it wasn't the H9i that was advertised thanks for clearing that up. This is definitely the most through review I've seen. These are fantastic headphones one of the best I've ever used and I've tried studio quality £1000+ headphones and these are as close as I've heard from any headphones. Having the wired ability means I've been using these as my main Xbox headphones and they work brilliantly. Hearing things in boarderlands 3 I didn't know were there after 80 hours of gameplay.

2nd generation and 3rd generation has one more difference as I read on the website and compared myself, is play and pause music when you take off your H9i over your ears where as H9 3rd generation does not have it I believe. Hi there! ANC improvement isn't mentioned on any official information from b&o. I trust your reviews, and listening is way more important than reading, but can you use your information channels to confirm? That was a competitive gap versus other options on the market and it seems strange that they aren't advertising the improvements clearer... I only see improved battery, controls, comfort and voice assistant button. Thanks! Note: if you or any of your customer could test them on a plane it would be great :)

I have just ordered the H9i, and then saw this video! i am in Australia and have not seen these advertised anywhere yet. Are the new ear cups a significant amount more comfortable than the H9i? and are they able to fit from 3rd gen to H9i? Trying to weigh up if i should cancel the order ( i got them at a decent price) and wait for 3rd gen, which i am sure will be more expensive anyway. thanks

Hi! Thank you for the in depth review. Quick question: on the H9i I had two distinct problems: 1. when walking the with ANC on I would get a crack/thump with each step taken, which appears to be a know problem. 2. In the right earcup there would be a high pitch sound, supposedly due to the bluetooth connectivity and insufficient shielding, which a lot of other users had as well (supposedly B&O once stated that a lot of people are unable to hear this). Do you happen to know if any of these issues have been resolved with the H9 Gen 3?

Just got mine after rocking the in ear B&O for almost 2 years. They're great for working out, library and the casual use BUT the h9 third gen are an absolute banger of an experience when it comes to listening to music and completely drifting away! But I tend to be overly careful with them and don't feel like using them on the bus and such since they're kinda pricey for headphones. Great product nonetheless!

The most drastic disappointment with these is the deliberate reduction in versatility after adding functionality with the voice assistant. Taking away this benefit of being able to swap a battery takes away the flexibility that was actually valuable and something you would expect to atleast remain with "newer, more advanced" models.

I’ve just installed a software update to my H9is (5.0.7), I’ve noticed the ANC sounds different, the noise floor seems lower, and I could swear the ANC is slightly more effective. Sorry to disappoint you all, no. The b&o has a much smaller range of frequencies and does not support codecs like ldac aptx HD aptx adaptive etc. The sub bass is uncontrolled and masks higher frequencies. Bass is powerful in terms of the lower end rumbling but not tight and punchy like the sonys or b&w. 40mm drivers are not as powerful as some competitors on the market. I have been using H9 3rd gen for about amonth now. Sound quality: Compared to Bose QC35 2 and Nuraphone that I tried, H9 is definitely a level up. It sounds clearer and more powerful both in high and low range. ANC: Better than BOSE QC 35 2 and Nuraphone. Not sure if it's due to the clearer sound but I could hear better with significant noise in Jubilee line between Canada Water and Canary Wharf. Call quality: At least so far, better than Bose and Nuraphone. Comfort: Worse than Bose as it s a round cup. Oval is better idea for comfort.

I enjoy using this company’s headphones in aircraft rather than using those supplied by the airline .

I own a pair of h9is and I seem to have a connectivity issue. When I pair my headphones to my device, it says "pairing unsuccessful". Followed by "make sure "Beoplay H9i" is turned on, in range, and is ready to pair". This happens to all my devices (iPhone, Macbook, Pc) and I can't seem to find the solution. I've tried restarting the headphones many times as suggested by an article I found. I dunno what to do. Please help!!:

Hi - I held off the H9i for comfort reasons - the cups were shallower than the H9 Gen 1 and H4 and I could feel the metal rim of the driver unit digging into the top/rear of my ears - a deal breaker for me on comfort. I note that the H9 3rd Gen Earcups have changed for 'improved comfort' - what are the changes and are the cups any deeper? Thanks!

I owned the h7 and they didn't fit all the way around my ear. My ear did fit in the circle, the issue was at the back the earcup didn't seal over my ear and there was a little gap where the earcup didn't touch my ear and sound would leak and I would hear outside noise. Will these seal around my ears or leave a little gap?

What would be the advantage of Bluetooth 5.0 vs the H9's Bluetooth 4.2? I know 5.0 can transfer data faster but 4.2's bandwidth is enough for CD-quality audio right? And if I'm planning to use the H9 with aptX LL, there wouldn't be any advantage of 5.0, right?

Hi, I have just purchased a pair of these headphones to replace my H4's and I'm struggling with them if I'm honest. Mine don't go very loud and in fact the louder you go the worse the sound gets. Mine seem to turn off the sound settings and revert to the optimal sound setting as you go higher in volume? In my opinion my H4's sound far far superior and go a lot louder which can't be right which makes me wonder if either mine are faulty or I'm doing something wrong? Please help.

Can it be used with a wall adaptor? This one doesn't have one so can I use one from another device or is it gonna mess the battery up? Also, I am having a huge issue with battery indicator on the app. It shows 40% but I get the red light and beeping on the device which is a sign that is running out. In my experience the battery is good and works long enough but the indicator is just way off.

So sad about this... I have an h9 pair that I purchased in 2017 and the Bluetooth connection completed stopped working. It was working for almost a year with my iPhone 11 and my MacBook Pro from 2016 with no issue. A few weeks ago the Bluetooth function just stopped working, will no longer connect an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S10 or MacBook Pro 2013, 2016 or 2019. B&O won’t honour the warranty and does not offer repairs. So if you feel like lighting your money on fire, go ahead and buy these headphones, cause that’s what you will be doing.

I want to know whether the proximity sensors have been improved? The ones on the H9i never work for me, it will just play/pause continuously when I wear it and I saw a lot of people having this issue. It's the only reason that prevented me from recommending H9i to my friends, if it's fixed on the 3rd gen then it's the perfect ANC headphone.
@BangOlufsenManchester
@BangOlufsenManchester 5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I have the H9i and turned the proximity sensor off. When you turn them on hold them still laying flat until the white light goes out, this calibrates the sensor and makes it more reliable. You can turn it off using the app now too. The H9 3rd generation has no proximity sensor, it was removed. John

For the life of me I cant imagine why would you remove the user replaceable battery. It's sucha rare treat to come by with todays high end electronics. Removable battery was honestly the thing that got me to buy H9i, it's nice to know that my whopping 500€ pair of headphones are not useless after 2 years of use like these will absolutely be. Hope you'll reconsider that choice somewhere on the line, before you do I'm sticking with my H9i.

Hello, I'm very interested by the H9 3rd gen. Before considering buying them, I would like to ask a question. In some reviews, people aught to critique the actual loudness of the headphones for not being loud enough. Being a huge metal fan and frequently traveling student, loudness is vital for my listening experience. Would you consider this as loud (enough) headphones or have you ever experienced these headphones just not being loud enough? Thanks very much and greetings from Belgium! ;)
@BangOlufsenManchester
@BangOlufsenManchester 5 жыл бұрын
Hello, phone and headphone manufacturers will put certain limits on volume as to not damage user's hearing (they don't want hearing loss claims against them!) The best thing to do is try them for yourself, volume is subjective and what I find loud you may not. I own H9i and never listen anywhere near full as it just becomes uncomfortable for me. John
