Staying at Ibis Riverside as I type. Great recomendation. I would recomend the riverview rooms - I splurged and got one - they have a great view. I would go at least to the 4th floor for good views. I am on the second, still good views, but I think it would be better on the fourth floor or higher. The staff is beyond excellent. Thank you, thank you for this recomendation.

Actually, at time of filming I lived at Urbano Absolute, loved it too, fantastic location and facilities. If on lower floor can be a bit noisy at rush hour on the road side (I was almost on top floor so np). Also lived at Supalai River for 2 years (in the unit in vid) also loved it, especially the river view.

Westerners must understand EVERY condo in any asian, Indonesian country is small. These seem expensive places to buy to me. It is the Central Riveside sure - but the proximity to freeways is a negative on some. Bangkok is already noisy enough. Very well done, STL. Lots of good info.

Excellent video and overview of what’s available. Seems like a world class city to live in. Only problem is being able to stay long term. If the Thai government ever becomes more Ling-term tourist friendly, I’ll come check it out for a year or more.

@THE ROAD EAST Yes, apparently Thailand is limiting former non-stop continuous tourist visas or arrival exemptions. Even Vietnam is toughening up Biz visas and the like, Cambo as well. Phils still seems lax but there's some hoops as well? Perhaps you could comment/update on the Phils visas if you get a sec. Also for those reading here, click on THE ROAD EAST channel name above for great reviews of Phils / Cebu condos & life plus insight on why he chose to relocate back to the Phils from Vietnam. Great vlogs!

SideTripLife There was a bit of concern here a couple months back (July/August 2019) that The Philippines might be tightening up on tourist visas. The concern was triggered by news that Chinese had been abusing the visa upon arrival program granted to Chinese tourists. Many were overstaying and working illegally. And the government indicated it might stop allowing extensions. But that was limited to that particular visa upon arrival program, apparently. Folks confused it with the 29-day visa free stay we westerners are granted. Plus there were reports of western tourists being interrogated at the immigration desk on arrival. Even I was asked, by a middle aged female immigration officer, “are you going to do this again?” Referring to the 28 months of visa stamps in my passport from the time I was here prior to going to Vietnam for six months. I was polite and she continued her questioning... do I have a gf here (yes), how long have I know her (18 months), why have I not married her (because marriage is a big and lifelong commitment), to which she then asked that I write the name of my gf on a blank sheet of paper and then informed me she would add a note to my file, to have the immigration office speak to me about the proper visa I should have. And then she passed me through. Later, at immigration when I went to extend, nobody said anything to me and I had zero issues. I think the government is simply trying to direct long term residents here toward the resident visa program, and that’s okay. But they still allow us to extend for up to 36 months in increments of six or two months at-a-time, and so as long as that remains the case I don’t see anything wrong with doing so. Generally the Philippines immigration authorities I’ve dealt with have been super accommodating, and it helps that they speak English well.

SideTripLife thanks for the plug for my channel. I’ve been gearing up since returning to the Philippines in August and on Oct 26 my girl and I will be heading out on a long bike trip. I just purchased a drone, so should get some great overhead video of the natural areas and tourist hotspots along the way. We’ll be touring all of Negros island, one of five major islands in the central [visayas] region of the Philippines. It’s an island of spectacular natural beauty. Hope I can do it justice.

andy stubbs Thanks for being one of my 1st subscribers! Many don't think of the riverside area to stay much less live but when most from 'far away' Sukhumvit (12 mins via BTS;) see they could have a Sky Gym, Bowling Alley, Rooftop Pool and incredible city/river views all for less than 20K they're blown away. In Sukhumvit with a comparable view & amenities you're looking at 35K+ (with no river view or breeze;) Plus factor walk to Villa supermarket, Starbucks, Homepro, BTS etc all 5 mins away (also Icon Siam) and it's pretty convenient too. So next time you're in town hope you do check out one of the hotels mentioned (also a bargain!) and let us know what you think of the area. Thanks for watching, part 2 'Live/stay/PLAY' coming up :)

What I like about riverside is the Chao Phraya River Express. It takes you to the BTS at Saphan Taksin. Tha Phra Arthit is good for the dene, cheap conveniences of Soi Rambutri and KSR even. Then it's quick to get to the klong boat Saen Sap into Pratunam etc. I get fixated on the BTS and wonder how it would be living away from it.
@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife 5 жыл бұрын
@billytheweasel Thx again Billy. Love the river and like you say, a great way to get around, also the Khlong boats. I do get the 'fixated with living near BTS/Skytrain' thing. However, living in central riverside I can walk to BTS Krung Thonburi in 5 mins, OR, to the ferry boat over to Sapan Taksin in 5 mins. Plus it's a pleasure to walk around the riverside areas, so much to see along the way too, as I hopefully show in part 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6qpoaSId5h3kJY

Hey! I plan on getting a place for next year. Are there any street food stuff, small restaurants near the Urbano Absolute? I like the living standard they offer but would be even better if i can just walk a few blocks and find a variety of food i can get.
@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife 4 жыл бұрын
@cheeseGrillz Urbano Absolute is my choice, best value on the river, perhaps in all Bkk comparatively. My only complaint is I wish the 'sky gym' had one more free weights area (I know it has 2 already but still many times have to wait;) Ok minor issue. If it were up to me would scrap the bowling alley and add more gym space 555! Still, it's an amazing gym with even more amazing views, plus the infinity rooftop pool is fantastic. Also, walk to boat, Skytrain, Villa Supermarket in 5 mins and reasonable rent = unbeatable value! As for street food there's loads around. I like many places along the left side on way to Icon Siam. Also at Icon Siam in basement there's great value food in aircon comfort. Right next door is Klongsan Plaza (market) with loads of food too. Across from Sena Place (Villa supermarket, Starbucks, Dominoes Pizza, etc, etc) are numerous Thai type night bars with cheap food n drinks too. Can see in my follow-up video of the area here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6qpoaSId5h3kJY

@@SideTripLife thank you for your response. I was very keen on getting a place on the other side of the river where BTS runs near Ekkamai or On Nut with the same amenities and living standard for same price but the view itself and taking the daily 15min boat is just wow. I've been looking at places for a month, everyday looking at best affordable luxurious condos. Glad i clicked yours. I've watched your follow-up video, very helpful. Also, the Tree Rio is popular lately near Bang Or, it has a 2-floor gym, ever been there?

@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife Жыл бұрын
Hi there, as noted in the time stamp on the upload this was filmed almost 4 years ago.... Thus sorry if the prices in the now busiest season I've ever seen are not exactly the same. HOWEVER, looking at Agoda now, if you booked the Ibis Riverside today (Apr 12, 2023) it is 1441 Baht or approx $42 USD,. See: www.agoda.com/ibis-bangkok-riverside/hotel/bangkok-th.html?cid=1898974 Not bad considering at time of making that vid almost 4 years ago I quoted 1300 baht/$40 USD at the time, so we;'re looking at a $2 diff in real terms. Also looking at RentHub site, my old riverside condo Urbano is still going from 11k to 15k: propertyhub.in.th/en/condo-for-rent/project-urbano-absolute-sathon-taksin Similar for the other condos. Wish all things could remain the same but still prices seem not too bad? Cheers, STL

@Roger didit Hi, the prices were separated into 2 categories, condos and hotels (condos shown in the first half of the video, hotels in the last half). Prices for the condos shown were monthly (usually based on 12 months lease here) and hotels prices were daily. Hope that's clear now :)

@@SideTripLife OK. thanks. do prices by month vary much if you only need one month? Will they rent for just one month?
@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife 4 жыл бұрын
Roger didit Generally they're wanting 12 months lease with 2 months deposit + 1st month rent paid up front. If you can find a listing direct from owner, it may be possible to negotiate shorter terms (depending on owner). Of course there's also AirBnB but will still be more than long term regular rentals. Perhaps try renthub.in.th and FB groups. Good luck in your search.

@Jeam Little high? Perhaps but compared to my home city ($2000+ for similar) or say Saigon, Manila, Jakarta, Yangon, Phnom Penh, etc, a nice modern condo with rooftop pool, world class gym (+bowling alley;) with amazing city views, next to MRT, boat, supermarkets and malls for $470 month is pretty good value. My dears, i fell in love with you, i share your videos. I trust you to ask my question - of course without any responsibility -: if i want to buy a condo up to 3 million and my aim is to tent it out what is the best solution: Bangkok, Hua Hin (Marvel condo hotel on Petchkasem road, between Market village and Night Market, haha) or Pattaya (which i don't like actually but now we are talking about business.) Besides this: is it possible to contact you in other way as well? I have some detailed question and i need so smart people's help as you are :--) Thank you so much dears, you are amazing! @Edit Bors Please forgive me as I don't like to recommend which properties to buy, or specific agents/ solicitors/ lawyers etc. My personal area preference would be Hua Hin though. Again, that's just me. Best advice I could give is hold off buying anything at least until you rent & live in the specific area (or better yet in the building you're eyeing if possible) for minimum 6 months. This way you can see if it suits your lifestyle & lives up to your expectations. Best wishes on your search :)

Do not buy properties in Thailand. Thailands houses/condos have an ROI of 3%, better to rent forever and throw your money in a high interest rate savings account (or the market) and live on the interest. Buying is only suggested in a high yielding ROI (8%+) state where rent is ridiculously high.
