The bridge with the garden walkway is a nice idea. I like that they everywhere install some nice parks, viewpoints and places to rest and calm down,.

The Memorial Bridge was the first bridge (steel bridge) across the Chao Phraya river built in the reign of King Rama VII. The bridge spans could be raised to allow tall ships to move up the river in the old days (about 55 years ago I saw it with my own eyes) but not anymore. My house was about 3 kms away from the bridge and I walked through Wat Prayoon then crossed the bridge to attend Suan Kularb schoo located at the end of the bridge on Bangkok side. Opposite the school there used to be British Council's library and the membership was free for students. I got my reading/listening skills from reading graded books and listening to long tapes in this library. Suan Kularb was established during King Rama V reign. It was and still is male-only high school in Thailand right now. Later the government established co-ed Suan Kularb schools in nearby provinces about 8-9 if my memory still holds. Suan Kularb Nonthaburi was where my son and daughter attended about 20 years ago.

I wonder why the memorial bridge can no longer be raised, I’m guessing large ships no longer need to pass through it, or the mechanisms over time have degraded to a point where it may no longer be possible to raise the spans. Thank you for sharing your personal story. I wonder if the British council’s library where you obtained your reading and listening skills is still there today? It sounds like you had a unrelenting desire to learn English from a young age, which is very rare amongst earlier generations where English literacy is almost non-existent. I’m curious to know what the motivation was behind this, or if it was the school that you attended that prioritized students to learn English, as I think there is something to be learnt from your experience that younger generations of Thai might find helpful. Appreciate your comment and I hope you get to check out some of my other videos :)

@@MergimVlogsYT If I may speculate, the reason why the bridge was designed to be able to raise its spans to allow tall ships to sail up the river was that the Thai Navy headquarters was and still is located at the former Thonburi Palace of King Taksin the Great, adjacent to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). So occasionally I saw the navy ships sailed through the raised bridge. However, later the main navy shipyard was relocated to the mouth of Chao Phraya river in Samut Prakan province and even later until now to Sattahip near Pattaya. The navy headquarter is now only functioning as administrative center in Bangkok. The same could be said about the Air Force whose headquarter was/is at Don Mueng, but most airforce planes no longer stay at Don Mueng, but in Korat (Nakhonratchasima). British Council library was later relocated to Siam Square Soi 3 as far as I know because I used to become a paid member (50 baht per annum) about 30 years ago. Not sure about present status.
i miss that place when i was 12-22 yrs i walked from wat phayoon to opposit side of river to get the express boat to school. i have a very good time watching your video , thanks

My experience with the Memorial Bridge came from my middle school at the foot of the Bridge (Suankularb). One day 40 years something ago, our math teacher was lecturing in front of the class as usual, then she realized that her students paid attention to something outside the class. She followed our sight and found out that the Bridge was opening. She stopped teaching and let us enjoy the scenery!!! It was a completely new experience to us (students). BTW, a tool that helped me learn English were British newspapers and a football magazine, the London Times, the Daily Telegraph, and SHOOT! They were available at a bookstore called Nibondh that located not far from the Bridge,

I used to go there when it was newly opened and I swear to myself that it will be my last time for here, That's because there were too many visitors, almost nowhere to walk. But your latest video makes me want to go back there again. **But I confess that my top favorite garden at the moment is Benjakitti Forest Park, new phase.. Have you visited it yet ?

I think you should definitely revisit the skyparm especially since the crowds are no longer about, I can imagine you would find it a lot more peaceful. I’ve not been there as of yet and I got to admit I did find out about it a bit late, but it seems every KZbinr in Thailand has now covered it already, so I’m trying not to add to that list.

@@MergimVlogsYT Don't forget to take the time to visit Benjakitti Park, It's definitely worth it.. **Additional advice : don't forget to bring drinking water, because there are no shops there and the park is so huge. /Thank for the advice🙏🏻 I will definitely find time to go there again.😉

There’s only one entrance on each side of the bridge that’s open meaning you can access the bridge from both sides without any issues.

Yes that’s exactly it. It is one of number of things that are so so damaging to life quality and health but are so so easy to fix . Another is motorbikes on sidewalks actually going at 30mph plus. No one bats an eyelid. Yes people are quietly crippled everyday. And yet on the other hand they go to amazing lengths to. Build such a great park as the new forest park when they could have cashed in by selling to greedy developers. Why puzzles me about the bike issue is that it ruins Thais quality of life and yet their don’t care. Even about their own lives

London's Garden Bridge was scrapped mainly due to the corruption it had already entailed (£50 million spent already without a single brick laid), plus the fact they refused to budge about closing what the mayor wanted as a public throughfare, in order to hire it out at exorbitant prices for corporate events. All in all the Garden Bridge was a lesson in what corporations milk from a public fund.
