1986: there's a reason why there's no drummer. Producer David Kahne replaced Debbi Peterson with a studio drummer to record the song, which infuriated the rest of the band. They had always considered themselves a self-contained unit. For years, in live performance, Debbi would not play drums on this one. Debbi also didn't sing on the song (she has the whistle on the bridge), with Vicki Peterson the first verse, Michael Steele the second and Susanna Hoffs the last. The band didn't work with Kahne again.
@aryanson6 жыл бұрын
Even when they do this song today, she still doesn't do the drumming, usually now either the tambourine, or an acoustic guitar
@FireMinstrel6 жыл бұрын
The drums could be done live, but a double kick pedal would be necessary to pull it off. Despite what Michael sang about liking the "punk and metal bands"(which often utilize such pedals), it doesn't seem like Debbi's style.
@misterteaification5 жыл бұрын
a) There was no "studio drummer" on the track; it's a drum machine. Anyone with ears can hear that. b) Debbi Peterson doesn't "whistle" on the track; it's a keyboard. Anyone with ears, etc.

Hogwash. Also, with Michael Steele's departure, Debbi now sings the second verse in live performance.

Vocals were definitely live. So there was a drum machine. It was 1986 and it's how they did it. The Bangles rocked and were hott! There was no female live band better than them since. They played their own instuments and had to have others obviously help for some of the tracks live. So what? They kicked royal girl band ass while having their own to strut. Long live them.

@@jeffharder8706 The drum machine was added by the producer and Bangles kept it in for their live performances, Debbie (the drummer) would have been more than capable of playing this beat, she plays far harder than this in other songs. Vicki is a capable guitarist, but by no means great. Michael was by far the best female bassist since Tina Weymouth and possibly better. Hoff is reasonable but not too my taste. Put the four together, along with their male keyboard, they were a very good band.

Have you ever felt like you’re unable to feel anything? You know exactly what this feeling is if you’ve been through it. The feeling of a meaningless life is unexplainable. A meaningless life may not look bad. In fact, there’s likely nothing obviously wrong. You may be living in your dream house with the love of your life. Your well-paid job in the company that you dreamt of is doing great, too. However, you feel like a part of your heart and soul are missing.
