I hope you all can put some of these tips to use, frog fishing on the bank is how I spent most my summers in high school and I still love to do it any chance I can get. If I left out anything you know that is useful, let me know down below!

I fish everything on one spinning rod with 20 pound braid, never had too much of a problem bringing in an size bass. I personally think that having all these different rods and reels is all hype.

Top water frog manufacturers should focus more on the looks of the underbelly of the frog instead of the back. The fish almost never sees the top(back) of the frog. Great vid by the way!

Most bass I catch don't live in the ponds. They are usually just visiting a friend and get hungry. I catch them, say what's up, then tell them to have a good day and tell the family I say "hey!" Typically a pretty chill interaction.

I think the 6.3 ratio on my Tatula SV is perfect for fishing frogs. The way I try to fish them is hop them along lilly pads, and have them swim slowly inbetween, so I fish them both moderate fast and slow at the same time. I would imagine like anything else, when the frog slows down, it catches the fish's attention and when it speeds up, the bass strikes...

as long as you set your drag correctly (Very few people do) you can catch very large fish on light line. 30lb braid is what I use and I haul in some very nice fish way over a 5lb bass size. Great bunch of tips on this one. Love the honesty and keeping the goofs in the video. Very cool.

@Jedhaase

It's just more ideal to use heavy braid. Bass get stuck in the weeds, lilypads, and muck, and it's much easier to pull them out. You also get that extra abrasion resistance, and just more confidence in landing them.

I think froggin is going to be as much fun....thanks and keep up the great vids....also....loved your great lakes fishing....and diving vids. too...How bout some more fly fishing too.....

I have always used 30 pound braid and I never really expected the day that I broke off my Norries nf60 ($16) frog on a hook set in open water. I don't know what I should use now? I also live in Missouri which is in the Midwest and have cause several fish over 5 and one eight pounder lol

Great video Chris! So I'm in the Chicago area, fishing off the grid ponds too and I'm having troubles hooking up on frogs. Not really in open water, but more so when I'm fishing on top or around the thick mats. Every time a bass blows up through the mat, on the edge of the mat or in the open holes, I never hook up. I've tried quite a few things like pausing before the hookset, etc but nothing seems to work. My guess is the line is laying on the mat and cutting into it while I'm working the frog so when the fish takes it, it feels the tension and let's go of the frog before I even feel em. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Hey Chris, a friend hand-me-down'd a beater baitcaster to get familiar with, I'm getting the basics of casting it; what's a 6'0" MH 3/8-3/4oz 10-25lb rated rod ideal/best for? Right now I got it rigged with a 1/4oz worm weight and a T-rigged Big Bite beaver on 12lb Big Game. 90% of the time I bankfish rivers & streams with 95% of what I catch around me here being smallies.

CHRIS THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE I NEED HELP. I put 30lb braid on my bait caster, however because it is so thin in diameter i have had a lot of casting problems and tons of backlash, i even re spooled it and it happened again. How do you use 30lb? I was thinking of moving up to 50lb to avoid these casting/knot problems. Is this a common issue or am i just an idiot? And yes its not because i do not know how to cast a bait caster, i have been using a bait caster for years. i need help. thanks. PS, YOUR CHANNEL IS THE GOAT
@gingerbassin203
@gingerbassin203 7 жыл бұрын
Brendan Smith i use 30 pound braid all the time and i have never thought a backlash is the lines fault. It could be the reels fault, the reel is not set correct, you arent casting correct, or you arent picking out all the loops from previous backlashes and that causes you to backlash again. Good luck!
